The run expectancy difference between 1st and 3d one out and 3d with two outs is about .8 runs. The difference between 1st and 3d with one out and 2d and 3d with one out, is a little over .2 runs. You need to have like an 80 percent chance to be safe just to break even on that play.

What responsibility does the coaching hold there? How as the 1B coach are you not screaming stay in that slow fucker’s ear the whole time? Just fucking dreadful all around.

But I’m sure he got an attaboy pat on the ass back in the dugout.

That's some solace, but fuck. The out still hurts.

Corner defense and baserunning feel like they've been worth dozens of runs this year. Probably haven't, but it feels like it.

I don’t know how I’d keep my cool if I was Turner there.

I mean, unless the ball is hit deep in the corner and the fielder has to turn his back, you just don't see players try that. There's very little upside and lots of downside. It's just not really a winning play, unless you can take the base because they try for the out at home. And then you have to be sure.

That was awffulllll

An aside but I feel like you see way less of players chewing umps out these days. Maybe just less guys hulking out on steroids.
