Is that the game where Charlie Zink started? That game was atrocious, if it’s the one I’m thinking of. Sox were winning by like 8, and ending up losing by 9 or something?

THIS is crazy! 1980 and Red Sox color guy Ken Coleman waxing on why the ump is so bad. HOLY SHIT. Can you imagine if that was said today?
By the way Yaz at the plate.
I'm with you. I can't imagine Ken Coleman saying something like that.First, WATER!
Sorry, but I have been obsessing on this for a bit.
I really want this to be true, but the Red Sox and Yankees did not play on July 24, 1980. They both had off days. That is Luis Tiant on the mound for the Yankees. He only pitched at Fenway for the Yankees twice, once in 1979 and then again in 1980. Bizarrely, they were both on September 11th. Both night games. If real, it almost has to be 1980 because the "John" mentioned is almost certainly Jon Miller, who started with Coleman in 1980. The armband the Yankees are wearing is for Munson, but they wore that through the 1980 season, so that is of no help. They actually wore one in 1981 as well, for Elston Howard, but Tiant was gone to the Pirates.
Perhaps it is fake?First, WATER!

That was against the Rangers many years before that. I was at that one. It was nuts. Everybody just wouldn't stop scoring. Is that the game where Charlie Zink started?
Particularly with a ground ball pitcher going.Nice job. Unappreciated hero of that game is Trevor Story. Solid SS play is mega-valuable.
that was against Texas. This one featured Aceves, that’s all I remember. Is that the game where Charlie Zink started?
Zink’s only big league game, IIRCThat was against the Rangers many years before that. I was at that one. It was nuts. Everybody just wouldn't stop scoring.
Of all the games over the past 12 years, what inspired you to jump into the fray tonight?Lurking for 12 years

I just looked up his baseball reference page. It’s the only game he ever played in the major leagues. Crazy. That was against the Rangers many years before that. I was at that one. It was nuts. Everybody just wouldn't stop scoring.
To be honest it would have happened way sooner but I got my user name wrong and couldn't log in for ages.Of all the games over the past 12 years, what inspired you to jump into the fray tonight?
16.62 ERA, but a 3.36 FIP!I just looked up his baseball reference page. It’s the only game he ever played in the major leagues. Crazy.
Was the Yankees pitching tonight's sacrifice ?Welcome. We don't really bite. Unless there's a sacrifice.
Lurker to lurker: You're appearance is starting a win streak. To be honest it would have happened way sooner but I got my user name wrong and couldn't log in for ages.
I finally sorted it out the other day.
Good , tomorrow I can watch the game at home as I'm at work at the moment.Lurker to lurker: You're appearance is starting a win streak.
They won that game, but only after blowing a 10-0 leadIs that the game where Charlie Zink started?
Cashman became GM in 1998. They haven't had a losing season since he took over. But, let's judge him solely on this yearAlex Verdugo is 7th on the Sox in OPS (.776). He’d be 2nd on the Yanks. But, yeah, Cashman, is a good GM . . .
10-0 after one! Crazy win probability chart in that one. They won that game, but only after blowing a 10-0 lead

They’ve been a bad team since the ASB of last year. I wouldn’t fire him yet, but they’ve played some ugly baseball for a while now.Cashman became GM in 1998. They haven't had a losing season since he took over. But, let's judge him solely on this year
Not judging him solely on this year. Given the Yankees advantages I think the bar should be higher than “not a losing season”. They have significant financial resources (which they are able to exercise in ML payroll, international signings, front office hirings especially in advanced analytics, and other potential strategic advantages like facilities, etc). Not saying he’s bad but I also think that it may be time for the Yanks to move on from him. But as a Sox fan I won’t argue w them holding on to himCashman became GM in 1998. They haven't had a losing season since he took over. But, let's judge him solely on this year
No one's arguing thatThey’ve been a bad team since the ASB of last year. I wouldn’t fire him yet, but they’ve played some ugly baseball for a while now.
Why is not fair to judge him right now then? Simply because they’ve had success in the past?No one's arguing that
Because you can't just say he's a lousy GM based on one, one and a half seasons. You look at the entire body of workWhy is not fair to judge him right now then? Simply because they’ve had success in the past?
They’re consistently top 3 in payroll and have 1 WS win over the past 20 years. Maybe Cashman is right and if the Astros weren’t banging on trashcans, they’d have 2. I think this has been a main board topic in the past, but as happy as I’d be with team competing year in and year out, at some point I’d expect an actual trophy. This team is bad, they’ve been bad for a year and half now. He should be getting criticized for this mess.Because you can't just say he's a lousy GM based on one, one and a half seasons. You look at the entire body of work
