In the simulacrum
Can someone who was listening to Michael Kay or the waldman / Sterling broadcast share some schadenfreudy tid bits for the group
I had to listen to Sterling and Waldman on the pregame show through the first inning while I was driving. Overall it was delicious, I can't imagine what they were doing by the time the play at the plate was overturned.

No slander. 2017 Kimbrel had a lower save percentage than Kenley before tonight's effort. It's 2016 Kimbrel who has an argument, but his peripherals were horrible.
2017 kimbrel had a 1.43 era a 1.42 fip a 0.68 whip and a 319 era+, one of the best reliever seasons in Sox history

Listening to WFAN now. LOTS of whining about the overturned call at the plate.

They didn’t win a WS from 1978-1996 and remember how long that felt.

We are at 2009-2023 and counting without an appearance, and only one appearance since 2003 (granted they won).

We are experiencing a massive MFY valley. Pretty glorious.

I had to listen to Kay for five innings, then lost power. Anyway, Kay seems fair, knowledgeable, and a good announcer unless the Yankees are kicking ass (which I've heard previous times) and then he can be obnoxious with his home run calls. So, Sox keep them under their thumb, like this glorious weekend, and he's OK to listen to.

That year (2009) I think they spent something like half of the TOTAL amount of money given out in MLB free agency that year. So yeah whatever.

It's an interesting discussion, because they've made the playoffs/played meaningful late season baseball almost every year during that stretch. Some here argue that that isn't a valley at all, while some only care about championships. Neither is wrong, just a different perspective.

Championships seem to be all their knuckle-dragging fans care about. 27 rInGs!!! and all that.

Every championship does seem to come down to a handful of plays. It’s easy to write alternative histories that come down to millimeters. I’m in the camp that that thinks that the best way to judge is whether the team has put itself in good position reliably, with home field from time to time, and the Yankees have done that for sure. But winning them is what you some leeway with the fans.

Yeah I’ve always thought Kay wasn’t a bad PBP announcer…except when the MFY are clubbing everyone around on a huge hot streak or a blowout game like you said, then he can get a bit overboard. But he was always much better to listen to than someone like McCarver IMHO.

Continuing on with the subject of announcers, i mentioned earlier in the thread that Merloni should just be given the full time NESN color job at this point. He’s been fantastic. I haven’t dislike Youk, but Merloni is the best of the bunch.

Speaking of announcers, maybe posted already but I was in the car for the 9th and you better believe Sterling got through 9/10ths of his home run call on the Allen double before giving listeners the bad news.

Very nice win. Given how much trouble the Sox have had with bad teams this season, it’s good to see them sweep this bad team.
Like they say about the biggest of rivalries, like Michigan - Ohio State, Cal - Stanford Harvard- Yale, etc., doesn't matter what the season records are going in, you can throw them out the window. So I don't think we can ever assume anything about outcomes between Sox - Yanks. JMO.

I completely assumed (made an ass out of myself) that the Sawx Yanks was going to be a night game. Completely forgot about the Williamsport game and the showcasing of the culinary capital of PA. Was spoiled to the result but I guess I saved 2.5 hours and can now view the YT highlights.

What time do the ump score cards come out? I’m really interested to see how bad today’s was.

I listened to Fleming and I will have to say he was beyond whining about the home plate umpire to the point I felt like someone told him to take a back seat to Joe late in the game. Yes, the ump did a horrible job, but talking about a pitch to Duran two innings later and making comments about it only going against the Red Sox seemed too much to me.

Will they be written on pink slips of paper? Because holy shit, were they bad. Yes, the last few calls ended up benefiting the Red Sox but the fact that the game even was tied at 5 felt like 75% because the ump kept calling pitches two or three inches over the plate balls, requiring Schreiber to throw middle-middle.

In short, I get why Flemming may have been insane. They were awful.

I’m excited for the scorecards, because I couldn’t watch, just follow along on mlb app and here. I wanna know if this ump was actually that awful or if sosh is even more biased than is assumed

I mean, sure. But there were just tons of pitches outside the Amica Pitch Zone called strikes. Story’s K was 2-3” low easy. According to the TV anyway.

And it's not like Cora is on SOSH and he got himself tossed.

So here’s an interesting series of facts according to Wikipedia about Sox bench coach Ramon Vazquez, who won his first game as manager yesterday:

He was part of the fabled Jay Payton trade to the Sox … when they traded Dave Roberts. And when he was traded away during the season it was for … Alex Cora.
