Okay, I hope we can all agree that Albert Pujols, Miguel Cabrera, Brock Holt and others are locks for the HOF, but I was thinking that maybe we could have a thread for discussions about other players and whether or not they are HOF worthy.

The first person I would like to discuss is Adrian Beltre. His counting stats are pretty impressive. By the end of the season, he could easily have 400 career HRs and 1400 career RBI. He has 2,531 career hits, and has topped 180 hits 3 out of the last 4 seasons and is on pace to do so again.

He seems to be getting better with age. He is in his 17th season, and has an average OPS of .908 over the last five seasons. He is only 35, so important benchmarks like 3,000 hits and 500 HR's are not out of the question. Right now, his statistics compare interestingly to other HOF 3B. I compared him to two guys, Ron Santo (the most recent 3B to go in) and Chipper Jones (the next likely candidate).

Career OBP
Beltre: .336
Santo: .362
Jones: .401

Career Slugging
Beltre: .480
Santo: .462
Jones: .529

WAR
Beltre: 74.4
Santo: 70.4
Jones: 85

Beltre has also been an pretty outstanding defensive 3B, and is currently 3rd all-time in career games at 3B. What do you guys think?

Doesn't he have a bit of steroids-era taint to him though? (I always thought he may have used especially after that one monster year he had) If that feeling is still keeping more deserving players out, borderline guys won't get in.

No more so than anyone who played the last few decades. The fact that he's been even better since testing started (not coincidentally him leaving Seattle) should help him, not hurt him. Yes, his single  best year was during the height of it, but he hasn't dropped off ridiculously since then.
