In a more normal transfer market, even if they can't really afford the fee it seems like it would have been a no brainer to be the middleman in getting him to his ultimate destination in the EPL/monied part of the Championship.
It’s been reported that Orlando had a 20% sell on clause, so Barnsley would have to receive a 25% premium on his option to buy in order to break even on the transaction.

I think we're going to see our guys' names in the rumor mills quite a bit this summer.

https://theathletic.com/2642222/2021/06/10/arsenal-summer-transfers-lokonga-midfield-nketiah-new-deal-tyler-adams-interest/

Arsenal are still pursuing targets for both full-back positions. At right-back, they are keen on RB Leipzig’s 22-year-old US international Tyler Adams. One of the appealing factors about Adams is that he can play both as a right-back and as a central midfielder, which makes him a good fit for Arteta’s “inverted” system on that flank. Leipzig are reluctant to allow Adams to leave, however, especially given the high-profile departures of centre-backs Dayot Upamecano (Bayern Munich) and Ibrahima Konate (Liverpool) coming next month. He may be another to return to at a later date.
Arsenal would pay better (right?) but be a mild downgrade from RB Leipzig on the field, I'd think.

I don't know who this guy is but he sure has a lot of followers. He's reporting that Konrad de la Fuente will be sold to Marseille for a fee less than 5m (euros, I assume?) with a buyback clause.

I'm not sure what Konrad's prospects at Marseille would be because I don't feel like I have a great handle on how good he is. I do know he needs to leave Barça.

Not official yet, but Konrad to Marseille feels awfully close...

The devil is in the details. If Barca insert a buyback clause, it indicates that they like the player but need the money (well, we know they need the money). He's in that in between phase of being too good for Barca B and not good enough for Barca. Of course I remember there being a big deal about Barca putting a buyback clause in the sale of Oriol Romeu to Chelsea years ago.

This move isn't particularly pertinent to the USMNT, but I find it to be an interesting tidbit. David Rodriguez came through the FC Dallas academy and signed a USL deal a while back. His 2020 season wasn't great and it seemed like he was falling off a potential first team track with the club. However, there was interest from a newer Liga MX club, he went on loan, and surprisingly got a bit of run with the first team this spring. Now he's sold (terms undisclosed, but probably modest) which is a nice bit of business for an academy player who wasn't in the first team plans. It reminds me a bit of Seattle's sale of Henry Wingo to Molde.

Alex Mendez has transferred from Ajax to Vizela, a newly-promoted club in the Portuguese league. Mendez was one of the oldest players on Jong Ajax last season, but mostly came off the bench. The writing has been on the wall for him at Ajax since at least last summer IMO, so I'm glad to see him on the move, as he had one more year on his contract. He did wind up with 39 appearances in the Dutch second tier with Jong Ajax, which is useful experience.

It seems he just wants to move to a bigger club. There was an incident of some sort at practice this winter (where he got benched the following match) but that manager got sacked a month ago, so that probably has nothing to do with it.

There are a lot of reports that Ethan Horvath will sign for Fulham. If so, it seems like he would compete with Slovakian GK Marek Rodak for the starting job. I don't know anything about Rodak, but based on his CV, it seems like a battle that Horvath could reasonably win. Starting in the Championship could be good for him if he can win the job; it's a lateral move from his current gig but that's the best he can do after a somewhat unlucky stint at Club Brugge.

Indiana Vassilev has been loaned to Inter Miami. He's had two bad loans in League One and League Two this year, and is definitely not part of Aston Villa's future plans. Hopefully he can make something of it, and Miami could be a good opportunity given that their cheating punishment means they will need to rely on cheap/young players for the next couple of years.

Johan Gomez '01, a forward, has moved from Porto B to FSV Zwickau, where he signed a two year deal. Gomez left the FC Dallas system to sign with Porto, but it was clear that he didn't have a pathway to the first team there. Zwickau are in the 3. Liga and are managed by Joe Enochs, who spent 12 years as a player across the German second and third divisions with VfL Osnabrück.

This isn't breaking news, but it's now official that Uly Llanez '01 has gone on loan from Wolfsburg to St. Pölten, who were just relegated to the Austrian second division. Wolfsburg disbanded their reserve team and have a developmental agreement with this Austrian club, so there's a cadre of Wolfsburg players there. Llanez's loan to Heerenveen last year went very poorly and he hardly played, so he'll be plying his trade in a humble league this season.

I suspect that he doesn't have a future at Wolfsburg so hopefully he can showcase himself to other clubs this season.

Thomas Roberts '01, an attacking midfielder, has gone on loan from FC Dallas to SK Austria Klagenfurt in the Austrian Bundesliga. Roberts seems to have stagnated at FC Dallas, where he's been unable to break into the first team even as other academy products have progressed into the lineup. Hopefully a change of scenery helps him.

Fun fact: Roberts is the only active male pro from Arkansas.

Some reports/rumors of potential moves from the crew at The Athletic:

- Jonathan Gomez to Real Sociedad. Top LB prospect. Mexican-American. Subject of a recruiting battle.
- Chris Mueller, who is out of contract in the winter, has interest in Belgium (Anderlecht, Oostende, Leuven)

What a ridiculously bad bit of business for Louisville. From the linked story:

The sources said that Louisville will receive around $100,000 from Sociedad for Gómez, who signed a professional contract with the club in March 2020. That contract, according to sources, allowed for Gomez to leave for free after a season in the event that then-head coach John Hackworth left Louisville. Hackworth and the club parted ways after the first game of the 2021 USL season. The fact that Gómez could’ve walked out of the deal and become a free agent following the season is the driving factor behind the low transfer fee.

Two members of the Sounders organization go on a six-month loan to Austria. Alfonso Ocampo-Chavez '02 is a forward on an MLS contract. Sota Kitahara '03 is a central midfielder on a USL contract.

This club plays in a regional third division in Austria. It's fan-owned and seems to have some investment from the US, so it has a weirdly large English language presence given its lowly status. RSL sent a couple of guys on loan there in recent years and both of them actually went on to establish themselves in RSL's first team. I can't imagine that the Austrian third division is a step up from the USL Championship, but maybe the Sounders think these guys could benefit from a change of scenery.

An exciting data point for the weird micro segment of Twitter that is MLS people arguing with SPFL people about relative league strength.

Haha, this is an amazingly vitriolic micro segment. The games really begin when someone puts up the bat signal for the lads of Celtic Twitter.

LB/CB Leonardo Sepulveda '01 has joined Granada's reserve team. Last season, he broken into Salamanca's lineup and began to start in the Spanish third tier. The Spanish pyramid is being reorganized for the 2021-22 season, and Granada's reserve team now plays in the fourth tier, so he's moving down a division but obviously hopes to be with the La Liga team soon enough.

Chris Goslin '00, a former US U17 World Cup player, has signed for FK Senica in Slovakia. He was an academy signing for Atlanta United, but washed out and hadn't been seen since being released after the 2019 season. Not hanging out with Andrew Carleton will probably be good for his career.

EDIT: I posted his own tweet of a pic of him holding up a jersey, but it's been deleted. Looks like he jumped the gun on the official announcement.

Time flies: apparently the Austrian league opened today and as one would expect, Brenden Aaronson started in a 3-1 road win over Sturm Graz.

We'll have to make a new thread soon!

I've watched all Tottenham's preseason matches so far and CCV has played a ton and looked really good.

I have to think there's a permanent move to a lower tier PL side or someone like Celtic in his near future. He's going to have a decent career.

I don't know the details of the story, but apparently SønderjyskE have rejected multiple bids for Haji Wright and now he hasn't reported to their preseason cam.

View: https://twitter.com/JensKraghIverse/status/1411621612961550338
Antalyaspor announced his signing a week or two ago, but SønderjyskE did not confirm the move because of some sort of agent and/or Antalyaspor-driven nonsense. Nonetheless, Wright traveled to Turkey and has been present in preseason camp. Now, Wright signed an extension with SønderjyskE and is on loan at Antalyaspor for the season. We'll see how this plays out for him.

Everton played Rotherham on one of the domestic cups last season and this dude was the best out of the 22+ subs on the pitch. Right back is Everton’s most pressing need so the whole game thread was “WHO IS THIS GUY SIGN HIM NOW”
