A’s have signed a binding agreement to purchase land for a future ballpark in Las Vegas.

FWIW, Fenway doesn't have On deck circles. But the rest of it is concerning. I expect the final result will look about 10% like this. Maybe the dimensions?

It also looks like it seats, maybe 20,000 fans? Looks like 10 rows in the lower deck in LF, same in the 2nd deck.

At least the empty bleachers in Right Center seem accurate, with 3 chairs that are empty and a whole mess of empty benches
Um yes it does

I think those are the fungo hitting circles. A player standing there during an at-bat would be a serious distraction.

Fenway on-deck batters are on the track between the dugouts and the plate
I know.

I’m asking if other stadiums have both fungo and on deck circles.

edit: to be honest I always thought the Fenway circles were more like ceremonial on deck circles. Non-functioning.

Didn't Fenway have on deck concrete pads close to the dugouts until Varitek broke his elbow diving for a foul ball?
https://www.espn.com/mlb/news/2001/0607/1211098.html

As Varitek fell, his right hand hit the rubberized mat in the on-deck circle, which is placed over gravel.

"With the mat there, yeah, (my hand) did stick. But to say if it wasn't there I wouldn't have stuck, I don't know," he said. "I would have done it again. It's a freak thing."

The swingin' Vegas A's should just play their games inside The Sphere. There's 20k seats in there, should be more than enough. Balls that hit the roof could be in play, like in Tampa's "ballpark".

It's supposed to seat around 30,000. It will probably only do that once, opening day of the first season. Day 2 will likely be under 5,000

It was initially proposed to seat 30,000 with the team making money with attendance at 2.5 million. When it was pointed out that selling out all 81 home games would leave them short, they said capacity will actually be larger. So it's been a real top-notch proposal from the jump.

It’s amazing to me how MLB allowed Fisher to completely salt the Earth in Oakland for nothing. What an absolute clusterfuck.

Manfred is a real piece of shit. He can fuck off forever.

So a little better than expected?
They had 5,400 last night. Some of their big attendance nights are coming up this week -- 3 v the Sox. I'd love to have front-row seats for the Sox, but I cannot stomach giving Fisher a dime of my money.

Buy resale. Fisher already got the initial cash.
Good idea.

The city of Oakland will present Athletics ownership with an offer to extend the team's lease that includes a five-year contract with an opt-out after three years, as well as a requirement the team pays a $97 million "extension fee," according to document obtained by ESPN and KGO-TV in San Francisco on Saturday.

Worst part is Sacramento whoring themselves out for minimal gain. My guess is the Giants AAA team will out-draw them.

‘Grass outfield seats?’ Sooo, they’re basically playing in Williamsport? Hey, might as well have the environs match the product on the field.

There’s no way MLB can allow this. Contract them if this is what they want to do.

There's absolutely no need to contract a team that has been one of original American League franchises and has been playing baseball season after season since 1901. The better option is to force Fisher to sell, but since Manfred is spineless and serves at the pleasure of the other 29 owners, he'd never do that. Especially since Manfred really doesn't like baseball all too much and turning the sport into a shit show that maximizes every cent of profit is what he seems to want to do.

“On behalf of all of MLB, I want to express my appreciation to West Sacramento, Sutter Health Park, the Kings and the greater Sacramento region for their excitement to host the A’s for interim play, as the A’s new permanent home is built in Las Vegas,” MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said in a release.

If they are going to play in a stadium like that, they should move to Boston and play at Nickerson Field or Harvard Stadium. :D
Boston has a long tradition of fans standing on the field during important games, like the 1903 World Series at Huntington Avenue Grounds.

It's a pretty nice ballpark. I was there in a suite last summer. Here is a picture of the grassy area beyond right field.
