It's so broad that it's almost meaningless in a vacuum. Includes mild stretching of a ligament all the way through complete rupture, just depends on the grade.Interesting. I'm suddenly realizing I have no idea what a sprain actually is. Internet definitions make it sound like a word that can encompass a pretty broad range of injuries.
Thank you for offering yourself up to the BABIP GodsThis sounds like great news. Why am I worried it might end up as surgery in February? Anyways, there is uncertainty in these diagnosis and the Docs likely are just taking a conservative approach and letting time have the final say before any surgery.

Very illuminating. Thanks as always. It's so broad that it's almost meaningless in a vacuum. Includes mild stretching of a ligament all the way through complete rupture, just depends on the grade.
If someone says it in a positive way (i.e just a sprain), almost always means the lower end of the spectrum, as apprently in this case. Even stretching or microscopic tearing (Grade 1) to me means the structure was damaged, but people can argue on the semantics.
Well technically...As Debbie Downer wouid say "Didn't they say Swihart had a sprain?". Let's hope this one really is.
The bolded is the key, no? He's played five games since the start of July due to various injuries, and he's still currently on the DL (at least until the release is official).Anyone in favor of claiming Desmond Jennings off release waivers to see if the team can catch lightning in the bottle? At least defensively he's better than Holt when healthy.
If it was a playoff game Nomar would play tomorrow. /March 2004As Debbie Downer wouid say "Didn't they say Swihart had a sprain?". Let's hope this one really is.
Especially to rest JBJ against Duffy tonight.Anyone in favor of claiming Desmond Jennings off release waivers to see if the team can catch lightning in the bottle? At least defensively he's better than Holt when healthy.
Plus.... as DRS alluded to, there is no chance he can be classified as "no structural damage" and potentially returning for the regular season with a grade 3 sprain of one of this knee ligaments. So there are multiple reasons not to start wondering about how a grade 3 ATFL ankle sprain (complete disruption of the entire ligament) correlates to Benintendi.Yeah, it was his knee not his ankle.
Just catching up on my reading, but I thought exactly this was well. Made me beyond sad ...Fwiw, this injury reminds me more of the Jim Rice broken hand in Sept .1975
Rookie LF, hurt late in the season, missed WS...
Playoffs start tonight, so pretty much in the next day or two. They only play a best of three for the championship (Spinners and Salem).I wonder what the time frame would be for the rehab assignment. As of tonight it's been two weeks exactly since the injury.
Benintendi out running the bases in Toronto this afternoon. Seems to bode well for him being in the lineup very soon.

Here is Benintendi running. Doesn't seem like quite game speed. But looks pretty good. pic.twitter.com/aHdPo028ia
Probably try to simulate game situationsAnd 10 minutes later he posted this, GJGE Lynchie.

Farrell clarified Benintendi being reactived . "Unlikely it would happen tomorrow."
Also wtf is simulated hitting? I assume it means live BP.
Probably lefties too, as he was stealing JBJ's at bats vs L before injury. That would be huge if they could get Benintendi about 12-15 games to get the rust shaken off. Really deepens the lineup vs RHP.
Considering the original prognosis was PeteAbe saying, two weeks ago yesterday, "he's at least two weeks away from any baseball activities" ........yay.
Globe:What's his role now? Just a defensive replacement, or will he see some righties? Pretty hard to pull Young for anyone at the moment.
At the least, Young will continue to get regular at-bats against lefthanded starters, and Farrell said that the Sox will proceed gradually with Benintendi after three weeks of downtime. The manager also said that Benintendi could be used to spell Jackie Bradley Jr. in center and Mookie Betts in right, a scenario that would permit the Sox to feature a lineup with both Benintendi and Young.
