Wait: I'm still a little drunk from breakfast so maybe I'm reading this thread wrong, but Browner and Tyms won't be active week 5? That puzzles me more than KT being DFAd.

I'm a little surprised on Browner, but his is four weeks behind Ryan, Arrington, Dennard, and Butler so maybe they want another week of practice before they throw him in. I thought he'd be active but only play 30 snaps or so.

I'm dubious Tyms is going to be a factor on this team. He put up a lot of his production in garbage time. I can't find preseason game logs, but my recollection is that almost all of his production was in the second half working with Garoppolo (and against backup and 3rd-string corners and worse). I kinda figured they'd try to sneak him onto the Practice Squad after his suspension.

I would be. It would be one thing if our secondary was playing lights out, but that isn't really the case. As long as Patrick Chung is on this team, there should be a spot for Browner.

When do Browner and Tyms need to be added to the roster?  I would think they would need to be added now that the suspensions are up.

As the article states, Monday. Presumably they have to be either put on the 53 or cut.

I'd probably take cut if I was getting 3-1 or 4-1 odds.

The team gets a 1 week roster exemption that expires on Monday. All teams get a one week exemption whenever a player returns from suspension.

Oh, ok.  I was a little confused by the title of this thread.  So two moves need to be made by Monday, Browner and Tyms added and two other cuts, or Browner and/or Tyms could be cut.  I wouldn't think it was likely they would be inactive if they are on the roster; but who knows what BB will do this year.

At the risk of posting something already known, since Browner's suspension was related to substance abuse, he was allowed to go to meetings and work out at Gillette, but not practice. As mentioned above, it's probably more of a "game shape" issue relative to the other DBs (more specifically, Butler and Dennard).

As for Tyms, his suspension was considered PED-related, therefore he wasn't allowed around the team. Thus he was more likely to require the full allowable time for evaluation (e.g. roster exemption)

Two out of Dobson, KT, and Tyms were likely to be inactive anyways, so I don't see this as a surprise at all.

Much more so than Mankins getting traded.

Browner hasn't played a regular season down for this team. He has a $1.25 dead money if he got caught. He is on a secondary with a regressed Ryan (most disappointing besides the offensive shitshow) and a hurt Dennard.

Cutting Browner this year would absolutely a WTF move. If anything, he may be a release candidate in 2015 when he has a $5.5 cap number and no dead money.

At this point nothing - N-O-T-H-I-N-G - would shock me regarding this team. They could cut Brady on Monday and it wouldn't stun me.

Do you think Ryan's been that bad? He had a couple bad series against KC but I think he's been mostly OK. The atrocious run defense has been much more disappointing as far as I'm concerned.

I too would be surprised if they cut Browner now. I'm not real bullish on the signing but I think he has some use.

I don't get how any can think that Browner will be cut next week.  The team had the chance to give him a free week of practice, probably something he desperately needed after missing the first 4 weeks of practice time.  I do hope Browner can be a difference maker for the team this year, but I can see why he may not be there just yet.  Going to team meetings is not the same as working full speed practices.  Also, it was a short practice week to boot, and I'm sure that didn't help matters.  If a WR misses an assignment the result is usually an incomplete pass; a DB doing the same can result in a TD.

Tyms, much like Thompkins, is essentially back end roster fodder.  But they might as well let him stick around for now to get a look at what he can do in practice.

I think Tyms is gone unless a WR gets hurt this week and opens up a roster spot.  Too much missed time and simply hasn't practiced enough with Brady to add value as a 5/6th WR with no special teams value.

Can someone who really knows that stuff explain to me how some RBs and some WRs have special teams value while some don't? I've never understood why some of those guys don't play special teams. Is it because they are unwilling or just unable? If unable - why? Shouldn't their skillsets be similar?

Edit: maybe this belongs in the Slater thread?

Tyms activation could mean KT was claimed on waivers.

I doubt it. They cut him for a reason in the first place.

Edit - I don't doubt he was claimed (well, I kind of do), just that the two are related.

Interesting.  Don't think he's very good, but didn't think they had the depth to do that.

They have the bigger DT from Carolina practice squad who couldn't be any worse than Vellano.

Buchanan played 14 snaps at end yesterday.  Wonder what he reinjured.

Bequette is still on the PS, imagine he gets first crack if they need another DE.  Ben Bass and Kona Schwenke also on the PS.

Would still be pretty surprised if he's active over Dobson, Amendola, or LaFell, at least initially.

Understand the excitement though.  Hard to watch some of the plays made in one on one situations throughout the league and not think "there is no one on the Patriots roster who can do that".  Tyms probably can't either, but the athleticism is at least there.

I'm way too excited to watch Tyms play. I realize it's irrational.

I'm more excited to see Revis and Browner on the field at the same time.

I still think Easley, at least now, is a better fit at DE, and I think he's the new 3rd DE for this season. Ninety-Eight can take Vellano's spot. Easley can rotate inside if there's an injury.
