I was probably not clear. Assuming its first heard "on the playground,".....if you then repeated it at home (as most kids do), that would be your parents' chance to let you know it's not acceptable. In no way was i trying to suggest that it "must" have originated at home.
I actually meant to quote SJH's post on his hard disagree. But yes, I do think the scenario you describe is possible, but no one knows for sure except for him and his family and probably the people close to them...and it doesn't really do any good to speculate. Does it matter if his parents are pieces of shit too? Ultimately, as an adult (of which Miller is now), you are responsible for yourself and if he was surrounded by racista or raised by racists, he certainly isn't now and can choose how he wants to proceed now.

Miller started the bullying when he was 7. Whether or not he heard the epitaph at home or the playground, his willingness to use it is 100% a reflection of his parents. That is learned behavior that he got away with for years.

Yes, you do. You hear it from friends or on the playground at school, regardless of where you grew up.
Never heard this or the N-word on the playground. And I’m 60 years old, so my playground time was back when something like this would perhaps be more common.

Between here and everywhere.
Cam already being very short on questions asked. Doesn't seem like there was any kind of opening statement, just right into Q&A.

This is going great.

Local Channel 7 is carrying it. Looks like Neely hasn't slept since the signing.

"We didn't have enough information." - in regards to what changed from the time they signed him to now.

"We didn't talk to the family, we should have talked to the family."

"It was not worth putting the organization through this any longer."

"I thought there would be some people upset about this, but to the extent ithas been, I underestimated that."

Just mind blowing level of incompetence

Don’t even have to look at Mailloux. They literally had an example of this exact player trying to enter the league 2 years ago. Everything that happened over the past 3 days happened step by step in Arizona. It was right there in front of them and they ignored it.
That’s the kicker. The bar was to be a better organization than the Coyotes, and they couldn’t.

There’s some tension between/among ‘we didn’t have enough info,’ ‘internal discipline will be dealt with,’ and ‘we underestimated the backlash.’

I think the point re: backlash is bingo. Without the firestorm over the weekend that guy is still with the organization regardless of what ‘new information’ they came upon.

"I want to apologize on behalf of the Boston Bruins organization, on behalf of myself."

"Based on everything //I// knew."

He's throwing Sweeney directly under the bus.

He's a complete weasel. No personal accountability whatsoever. The only reason Miller is not in the organization anymore is because fans and players spoke up. They don't give a shit about the bullying stuff. All of this talk about being contrite is all BS. They tried to pull a fast one because they think he's a good player and didn't think anybody would care.

I wonder if Sweeney resigns now. I think I would. It’s Cam’s job as the president to take the bullet for hockey ops, not put it on them.

Unless Cam was against this and told Sweeney "if this fails its on you."

I have no facts to support this position, but I can see that being a scenario where the last 24 hours play out as they did.

Serious question..Where does the buck stop? If someone in scouting/development brought Mitchell to Sweeney and Sweeny told him to follow up in all the right places re: his past, and Sweeney was given bad info, does Sweeney have to go?

This makes Sweeney's first remarks on all this even more strange.

While I stand behind my belief in second chances for kids, this was the wrong person to use it on.
I think that's where a lot of us are. I also think that a lot of us are better for the debate/discussion that went on because there were nuanced details that needed to be evaluated so that everyone could have a clearer picture of the actual details that mattered (and not the PR language used to hide them).
You are allowed to change your mind if you get additional information, and a lot of us did that in the past couple days.

I also want to call out that the focus of this thread has been on Mitchell/Isaiah/hockey and not each other. I know that it can be easy in emotional discussions to start with that, and I respect the people here because we usually don't. @TSC @Myt1 both of you were important for this discussion and I learned from both your efforts. Thanks.
