And now the team is in the shithole again. 3 of 4 now they lost.

I know they're in the playoffs right now, but I still wonder if it would be better to sell some of the older guys for younger assets at the deadline.

Not often a team can outshoot their opponent 43-31, and yet you can call it an absolutely shittastic performance.... yet here we are.

Pastrnak is the real bright spot.  He's disappearing at times but to my eyes he looks to be a future star.  It's probably a controversial "take" but I think he already looks better than Seguin ever did.

They really battered the Stars tonight, just couldn't get the bounces and made a few stupid errors.  Which is kind of a refrain for the entire season, thus far.

How quickly people forget his 30 goal season. Or his first game in the ECF against Tampa.

Plus, if my memory serves me, he wasn't playing on a line with Krejci and Lucic.

Jeez, I really like Pasta, but "better than Seguin ever" looked?  Sorry, but he isn't even close to Seguin's level yet... and I'm one of the ones who still likes the trade.

I tried to properly contextualize that this was a conclusion not particularly supported by the evidence and likely was a controversial opinion.  With Seguin, it seemed like he used his tremendous speed and shoot on sight mentality to achieve some results, but I never saw a very complete player there.  With Pastrnak, I feel that I'm seeing a player who is showing a more rounded game than Seguin ever showed -- in addition to his obvious offensive ability he's done some good work on his own boards and has shown a pretty good understanding of the rotation required of him in relation to his linemates while being both very young and undersized.  I think he's showing a real dynamism that the Bruins have lacked -- speed, skill, vision.  I'm irrationally high on him right now and perfectly willing to admit that.  I'm gamethreading here, I guess I just always saw Seguin as a very one dimensional player.

Boychuck to Miller is a downgrade.  Ference to Krug is a lateral movement.  Chara's knee is a downgrade.  Seidenberg's everything is a downgrade.  McQuaid has been a downgrade this year.  Yep, that statement checks out.

Edit: Kaberle to Hamilton is an upgrade.

second edit: why do I always forget that Wideman was traded before the '10-'11 season?

Why would you compare to 4 years ago when everyone is different. Just compare to last year when they won the President's trophy and most certainly were title contenders.

Fine.

Chara is a downgrade because of his Knee.  Dougie is an upgrade.
Seidenberg is a year older and slower.  McQuaid is still injured a lot, and its showing.
Krug is still Krug.  Kevan Miller is better than anyone else from the providence shuttle, and is definitely not Boychuk.

I don't see Dougie as much of an upgrade at all this season. Maybe better offensively, but he hasn't been good defensively.

He's been an overall upgrade. I think his DZ play is actually quite a bit better, while still painful to watch at times. He is 21 though, and how many better offensive defense are there in the leagues? 15?

I'm not comparing him to the rest of the league, only to himself.

I think his defensive zone defense after a set up has been better than his pinching decisions and neutral zone play against the opposing breakout, which have not been good. I think he's trying to do too much to cover for others not pulling their weight.

Mostly, I don't think his defensive play has taken any real stride forward this year relative to last.

He does look better than Seguin anytime physical contact is involved. At this age, seguin struggled mightily on the walls and in the corners. Never won those battles

You have almost certainly watched more B's games than I this season. I've seen marked improvement in Hamilton's offense, especially his decision making, and I think his DZ play has gotten better. I will trust your opinion on his NZ play and his pinching decisions. He's still better than last year, while the D corp as a whole is undoubtedly worse.
