It's over. A Nic Dowd wrister from the left off the pipe and in. St. Cloud advances to the regional final.

Wow, what a game. Brutal way to lose for the Irish.

I gotta say, those repeated replays from multiple angles with the audible ping followed by the crowd roar are fantastic. It's like watching a Papi walk-off taken from 15 different vantage points with the crack of the bat preceding the Fenway explosion.

For hockey gluttons, ESPNU is finally getting started with the delayed airing of MA-Lowell vs Minnesota State.

Two cheaps shots by UMass Lowell on Gaudrea after the whistle.

Guess we know how this one is going to go.

Looks to me like they're going to let the douchiness go unimpeded on both sides.

Wow, what a feed from Gaudreau to Hayes, left to right, for the score. Johnny waited forever before making the pass.

Another Lowell PP coming after a boarding call on Fitzgerald. Ref should have held the whistle there, IMO.

Mike Kapla with a wrister from all the way out at the center blue line, and it sneaks through on the left side. Tie game with 1:52 left in the 1st.

Wow. Gambardella gets wrestled and body slammed to the ice by Arnold on a potential breakaway. Needless penalty, since he had him already stopped, and there's only 10 seconds left in the period. Lowell will start the 2nd on the power play.

Folin nearly scored for UML as the puck squeezed between the left post and Demko's pad, and the puck just sat there on the verge of the goal line for about 3 seconds. Demko had no clue where it was, but finally wrapped it up. Power play expires.

Still 1-1 with 17:50 left in the 2nd.

Arnold takes down another River Hawk. No call. Damn, these refs are letting pretty much everything go.

Suter's back on the ice for Lowell inside 8:00 of the 2nd. Doesn't look entirely comfortable skating around out there.

Demko with a pair of great saves, first on a rocket from the right, then on Wilson with the turnaround shot on the rebound.

Bill Arnold with a sweet left-to-right move shoots through Kamrass's legs and a screen in front, and it goes past Hellebuyck for a 2-1 BC lead.

Under 2:00 to play in the 2nd.

And just like that, Josh Holmstrom ties it up for Lowell with 1:16 left, jamming one in right in front of the crease. Wilson & Folin get the assists.

EDIT - Goal reviews are compulsory, but this one took forever and I have no idea why. Anyway, the goal stands and it's 2-2.

BC's final rush gets them a shot on net just before the horn, but no dice. Should be a great final 20 minutes.

Evan Campbell and Ryan Fitzgerald (B's prospect) trade goals in the opening 1:04 of the 3rd. Tied at 3, this has been a heck of a game.

BC finished this one off with a flurry. First their forechecking prevented UM-L from advancing the puck enough to pull Hellebuyck from net, then UM-L put on a pretty solid press with the extra attacker, with three big chances in front of the crease.

Eagles advance, 4-3, and they'll face Union in Philly.

St. Cloud & Minnesota scoreless in St. Paul with 9:00 left in the 1st. The crowd there is even more subdued than Worcester was. All you can here is skates, sticks and whistles.

Gophers go up 3-0 midway through the 2nd. A rush with a Globetrotters-esque three-man weave -- with a delayed penalty call on St. Cloud -- results in a Justin Kloos score. And now they're on the power play.

Looks like we'll have three #1 seeds in Philly.

With 5:00 to go in the period, St. Cloud pulls Ryan Faragher from net and replaces him with freshman Charlie Lindgren. No apparent injury, and frankly none of the goals were Faragher's fault. But I guess Motzko just wants to change things up and light a fire under the Huskies' asses. They've looked pretty lethargic, but really it's because the Gophers are a shitload better than they are.

With the Gophers' 4-0 blowout of SCSU in the books the Frozen Four is now set, though it'll be another 11 days before we can enjoy college hockey again. I absolutely hate that gap. I mean, by the time they drop the puck for the title game, the Red Sox will have already played 7.4% of their regular season.

The Eagles & Dutchmen get the early game in the semis, while the Fighting Sioux play another arch-rival in the Gophers for the prime time airing.

Frozen Four - Wells Fargo Center - Philadelphia PA
Semi-Finals - Thursday, April 10
05:00 pm - #2 Boston College (Northeast) vs #3 Union College (East) - ESPN2
08:30 pm - #1 Minnesota (West) vs #14 North Dakota (Midwest) - ESPN2

Final - Saturday, April 12
07:30 pm - Championship - ESPN

Agree. First game is Thursday at 5pm? C'mon.

Yup, it's total horseshit. Granted the NCAA committed to these event dates long before this season's NBA & NHL schedules were set, but ESPN can pretty much change whatever the fuck it wants. I had assumed the Worldwide Leader already had some prominent NBA matchups set to air nationally on Friday & Sunday, but that's not the case. The ESPN/ABC family of networks airs a doubleheader on Wednesday 4/9 but nothing else until an early afternoon game on ABC Sunday 4/13. They also have Sunday Night Baseball (Sox-Yanks), but they could have aired the championship game at 4 pm. It's crystal clear ESPN doesn't give a rat's ass about providing any sort of platform for college hockey, other than hoarding the broadcast rights to ensure no other networks can show these games.

Meanwhile the Flyers play at Wells Fargo on Sunday afternoon against Carolina (they're on the road for the 10th & 12th). The 76ers are also on the road 4/9 thru 4/12 before they host the Celtics on 4/14. Obviously the schedule makers already knew the Frozen Four dates were blocked off, and that Sunday was available.

Union will play in the first semifinal Thursday [tonight], against Boston College (5 p.m. ET, ESPN2), with Minnesota facing North Dakota (8:30 p.m. ET, ESPN2) in the second game. The winners will play Saturday (7:30 p.m. ET, ESPN).
