@MarkDanielsPJ: Derby walked on to Arkansas and was their backup QB as a junior. Transitioned to tight end last year and catch 22 passes for 303 yards & 3td

@DougKyedNESN: A.J. Derbys college bio says his father played for the Cleveland Browns. Would have been in the Belichick era.

His quarterbacking left a lot to be desired, but I was pleasantly surprised at how much of an impact he had as a receiving TE in his first year at the position. Belichik loves his QB converts.

Yep. Profootballreference.com lists him as playing 1 game for Detroit in 1992, so he would have been with Cleveland, I assume, either in 1991 or 1993, and BB was the coach both years.

Big, physical, and fast, but raw. Good hands. Sounds like practice squad to me while he learns to run routes.

Qbs would naturally have a better understanding of multiple facets of the game.  Much like Catchers/SS in HS who end up at other positions.
