Both teams effectively ending their season not a terribly unfair outcome from that disaster last Saturday.

Well the AFC Championship officially runs through DEN. PIT chances are slim and none without Brown.
Martavis Bryant is only effective because Brown draws double teams leaving him 1-1 for go routes.

Unless PIT D can force 3 turnovers and at least one pick 6 they are done.

Its not quite that dramatic, but Brown is a huge loss.

I kind of want to win in Denver just to excise all the fear and emotional baggage our fanbase apparently has over playing there.

I don't think Denver has enough offense to win a playoff game going away, especially if the trend of the running game being less effective with Peyton at QB continues. They are favorites for a lot of reasons, but a complete blowout would surprise me.

It's quite fair. And if I'm a Steelers fan, I am pissed at the Shazier hit and the team's celebration of it. It is not a big stretch to think that stuff really set Burfict off.

But Tomlin said, that's just good, hard nosed North football right there.

Steelers have a puncher's chance. I don't know that Brown will ever be right this season.

I saw that Osweiler was DNP yesterday because.of a knee issue. Wondering how they fare if Peyton dings that foot again. I suspect he will take his share of lumps on Sunday.

Why would Pit announce Brown out so early in the week? You would think they would wait until game time to see if he can go. I am assuming they want to give themselves a few days for the offense to come to terms with his absence and not have a big letdown right before game time.

When do they fly out? They probably aren't flying him out with concussive symptoms and they have to downgrade him before the flight.

How many safeties can the Pitt D hang on Peyton?

Take Denver and the under.
Late-season-Manning is the same guy who hung 13 points on the freaking Colts in Denver's last home playoff game. In a game where he threw zero picks, by the way. If Denver only gets to 13 on Sunday, do you still like them to win?

I don't really expect Pit to win... and, yes, it's a different year with a different Broncos defense... but it's like there's no conceivable roadmap to playing the AFCCG at Foxboro.

We already know how this game will end. Manning will suck ass but the defense will bail him out for the umpteenth time this year.

I assume if Ben can play he will be limited to short-stuff, they've got no running game, so to win this game may hinge on Pitt D/turnovers, excellent field position, special team play, and FGs. Even if Peyton spits the bit again (PLEASE!) I can't see Denver yielding many points.

This is something of an exaggeration. MB is effective because he's really fucking good. He's got size, speed, and hands. He can catch and run and he can also blow the top off a defensive. Having Brown occupy the defensive the way he does without a doubt helps Bryant immensely, but IMO we're talking about a guy who would be a clear cut #1 receiver on many NFL teams.

Okay, it's time. I didn't want to do this... But I keep seeing it and saying nothing. Someone needed to say something, because you NEED me on that wall.

Isn't it "slim TO none"?

Slim and none wouldn't make sense, right? Because you're simultaneously saying they have some small chance AND no chance.

Slim to none makes sense because you're saying they have somewhere between some small chance and no chance.

Is this right?

This Denver team almost lost to SD at home last week at max effort. While I would certainly bet on Denver winning, I don't think it's fait accompli the way many seem to. Manning makes every question mark the Patriots have look like an exclamation point. (Is that a saying? I'm making it one.) I mean, would anyone be genuinely shocked if Manning threw a pick-six? Two pick-sixes?

If Denver's offense can avoid turning over the ball, I think they win.

Whether or not they can avoid it is a big question mark, in my opinion.

I don't see this as a slam dunk at all.

Hypothetical: Half time its 7-3 Pitt, with Pitt scoring off a Manning pick. Manning looks crappy-can't do much beyond short-stuff. Would Kubiak pull Peyton? How long is the leash?

I would pay $100 to listen in on Elway/Kubiak discussions right now. Footballs bounce funny, and anything can happen. But an "it's-about Me!" performance from Manning, which leads to turnovers is at the top of the effing list on how this game can be lost. I don't think Broncos brass tolerate it.

Does anyone else's sportsbook not have the game up? Bovada doesn't have a line for this.

Damnit, Bovada. I'd love to tease that line with the Pats. I'd be all over Pats +2, Pitt plus 15.

Elvis leaves the building, slim leaves town.
OK. I thought Dizzy Dean had one on slim, but can't find one. For now, some Dizzisms

"Son, what kind of pitch would you like to miss."

"It puzzles me how they know what corners are good for filling stations. Just how did they know gas and oil was under there?"

"If Satch (Paige)and I were pitching on the same team, we would clinch the pennant by July fourth and go fishing until World Series time."

Ben will play, even if he can't throw it more than 20 yards. He can hold off going down under pressure like Roman Gabriel and find someone open like on that last drive against Cincy.

I wonder what a KC at DEN line would look like right now. Probably a pickem even with KC injuries yes? At best I could see DEN getting the obligatory -3.

How many games did Denver win where they really looked like the superior team and didn't just eke one out at the end after the other team decided they didn't really want to win?

Having a really good defense will do that. How many games did the 03-04 Pats win like that?

Denver isn't that good, but it's a viable and productive strategy when your defense is great to hold teams close and take advantage of inevitable mistakes. Sometimes that looks like eking the game out, but it's really not.

At a quick glance, the Green Bay thrashing and the first win over San Diego are the only two all season that weren't in doubt in the 4th quarter.

edit: This game is a prime opportunity for Pittsburgh to avenge the Tebow loss.

Why declare Brown out this soon? Wouldn't it behoove Pitt to force Denver to spend time preparing as though he WILL play, if for no other reason than to waste time, in the spirit of "every little bit helps?"

It was addressed above, but it's likely because traveling to Denver while "out" with a concussion probably isn't wise. And since the media would know whether Brown was on the team plane, it's not likely that the Broncos would be fooled

This is either going to be a three hour ball washing or a three hour eulogy depending on how things go for Peyton.

Help me come up with reasons to root for the Steelers, beyond just getting the home game. So far I got:

1.) They have good uniforms
2.) Rooney Mara

Actually, so far that's all I've got.

The potential media circus for the next week were the media convinces themselves that Manning and Brady are equals is enough to get me rooting for Pittsburgh.
