If Woods available, I'd have to imagine so is Teheran.  And anyone else really.  Pretty strange, the Braves aren't even that bad.

“@dennistlin: Oh. Tyson Ross and Justin Upton both out of the game in the sixth.”

Or for Ross?

Woods and Peraza make no sense from the ATL point of view.  They are young guys who you want to rebuild around not trade fodder

It was actually Kemp who got pulled, not Upton.  The Padres and Mets are playing eachother right now and half these teams are Schrodinger's player.

Not really. The Dodgers don't really have anywhere to play him right now and the Braves are happy to take him since a huge chunk of the money he's making was a signing bonus. MLBTradeRumors reported he is under control for 5 years and 32.5 million. That's an asset I'm sure the Braves would be happy to have.

They don't have a 2nd baseman under control next season, Olivera fills that problem well. And it is weird! How often do players get signed to big contracts and then get traded before playing a single game with the team that signed them? It's a rarity for sure.

So the Dodgers get:

Alex Wood (good SP w/ years of control)
Jose Peraza (a top 50 prospect w/ 6 year of control)
Luis Avilan
Closer Jim Johnson

for Hector Olivera, a 30 y.o. who has been hurt numerous times in AAA
Zach Bird - a 40FV guy (Kiley McDaniels)
a competitive balance pick

Seems like the Dodgers are getting a crapload of stuff and the Braves are getting a 30-year-old guy who can't stay healthy?  Even if Olivera is good, something is missing from this trade.  Peraza is a well-regarded prospect.

They had Peraza in AAA. I cannot understand a rebuilding club thinking it's a good idea to flip Peraza for Olivera, let alone adding multiple assets on top. It's insanity.

This too. We'll have to see the deal in full, I suppose.

So, going off MLBTR:

the Dodgers will receive right-hander Mat Latos and first baseman Michael Morse from the Marlins. They’ll also add top prospect Jose Peraza and pitchers Alex Wood, Jim Johnson and Luis Avilan from the Braves. Atlanta, in turn, will receive Cuban infielder Hector Olivera, lefty Paco Rodriguez and minor leaguer Zachary Bird from the Dodgers. The Braves are also picking up Miami’s Competitive Balance Round A pick in next year’s draft (No. 35 overall). The Marlins will come out of this deal with three minor league pitchers — Kevin Guzman, Jeff Brigham and Victor Araujo — plus the financial relief of shedding the remaining $14.3MM that is owed to Latos and Morse.

I really, really don't get this move from the Braves side. At all.

To Braves: Olivera, Paco, Bird, pick

To Marlins: Brigham, Guzman, Araujo”

If Olivera has that kind of value, I bet we could find a taker for Castillo's deal.

A lot of what Olivera got paid was in the bonus and is already accounted for. He costs about half as much as Castillo going forward, so I'm not sure the situations are all that comparable.

Or maybe it says that we all need to be a little more patient with these Cuban players as they make their transition.  I'd hate to see the Sox subsidize a deal to get out from under Castillo's contract and then watch him blossom into a bonafide MLB slugger on another team.
