So...Croatia-Germany final?
Anyhing is possible. I know it was a pyro stopping the match and Modric came off, but why should that not happen again in any knockout match and Croatia losing vs. any of those teams? I could also see Poland from that side of the bracket that goes through. They are great in defending so far and get a few counters each game. But Switzerland - Croatia is also a tough road for them.
Let´s wait and see. On a good day, Belgium or Portugal could thrash any team 4-0. (on a bad day, they get shut down by Iceland..anything´s possible!)

So today...is goals scored second tie breaker?

If Portugal wins they're in. If they draw they need a scoring draw with more goals than Iceland if they draw, correct?

If they draw, they are in via the top 4 3rd place. I'm worried that they won't be all in on winning since the path of least resistance in the knockout round is to draw this match.

Ronaldo has his game face on

Ronaldo has his game face on

Two observations: (1) He seems to be shuffling awkwardly while walking. Is he hurt? Groin injury? (2) What an A**hole.

Edit: ‘He’ not ‘we.’ Although reading a comment about CR7 in a Gollum-like voice is oddly satisfying.

Yeeeeeeeeah...

Juventus pulls Bayern in the Round of 16 in CL, now Italy gets Spain. Their prize for a win there is... Germany.

Bah.

Just throwing darts really. The question mark was more to speak of the uncertainty of what will happen than making an educated guess. Both sides seem hard to predict since there are a bunch of seemingly evenly matched teams on either side. It is going to make the knockout stages very fun. We might have an out of nowhere winner like Greece in 2004. That would be something.

How do you feel if you're an England fan, where even one goal vs Slovakia would have put you on the other side of the draw? Just a brutal outcome for the big 5.

And a huge opportunity for Belgium today. Finish runner-up and you're on the other side of the draw playing Hungary or Iceland (Group F winner); finish 3rd, and you're still 50-50 to face Croatia on the easy half, rather than France on the half of death.

Meanwhile, Italy really, really doesn't want to win their group now. In theory they (6 pts, +3) could lose their game while Belgium (3 pts, +1) wins theirs making up the GD. As if they need an invitation for shenanigans.

Portugal in uniforms that even the Oregon Ducks would find embarrassing.

FWIW, Go Hungary! Let's not forget that Nani is involved in this game and not enough bad things can ever happen to Nani. Fuck that guy.

Portugal's "cross it to Ronaldo like he's Lewandowski" attack is really getting on my nerves. He's good in the air but they've got to find ways to open teams up.

Gera with an actual American football tackle there. Would make the best of our cornerbacks proud

edit: Out wide....cross to Ronaldo. Out wide....Cross to Ronaldo. Out wide....cross to Ronaldo. Free Kick for Ronaldo from 80 yards....into row Z.

The contrast between Bale and his Wales team-mates and Ronaldo and his Portugal team-mates is funny. They are both clearly the best players on their teams but whereas Bale is encouraging of his lesser skilled countrymen, Ronaldo just yells at his.

Portugal have been horrifically unlukcy the whole tournament.

That guy who just took the ball off Ronaldo and shot and missed is probably going to be found dead in a ditch tomorrow. You don't do that to Cristiano!

I know plenty of folks who really rate William Carvalho but my god it's like watching present day Yaya Toure out there. He's big and strong and can win a tackle but so immobile and slow with the ball.

It's a distinction thathas been noted. Bale always talks about the team, and all his team mates talk about how down to earth he is...one of the boys, and it shows on the park, and after the matches when it's a hug fest.
