So what did they talk about with Epstein?

Did he bludgeon Massarotti with a phone book when the Teixeira situation was brought up? "Theo, it was only an extra $1 million a year!"

Didn't catch the first 7+ minutes but they asked about signing Cameron, the medical issues the team had, "star power" and the sellout streak, whether Papelbon was in the plans as next year's closer already, the phrase "bridge year" and maybe some other stuff. It was unenlightening, in a complete non-surprise.

I wish Felger had asked Theo why he was looking for bargains in the draft by picking high school kids when they're a big market team that doesn't need bargains, instead of waiting to say this after the interview was over. Does he say things like that on purpose when there's no one around to call him on it, knowing they don't have to take any callers who know better?

In fairness to Felger I just don't think his brain works that quickly. His question is obviously dumb but I doubt he didn't ask it out of some kind of fear.

It was unenlightening because of Epstien's answers or because of the questions? Because I, for one, would have enjoyed Epstein answering those questions. What would you rather they have asked?

You know, I don't listen to The Big Show all that much anymore so I don't complain about it. And on the rare occasions I do, I don't complain about it. So, can you tell me why the fuck it is you listen to Felger's show if all you do is bitch about him! Why do you torture yourself so much? I can't stand 'EEI so I don't listen anymore. Why don't you do what SJH says, turn the fucking radio off. You're like Mazz bitching about the Teixeira, endlessly.

Sorry, didn't realize that was what I was doing or that it was bothering people. I'll stop.

The questions were fine. But Epstein is great at not saying anything. He defended most of their decisions, admitted that they needed to get better in some areas, and was totally noncommittal about the future. Which is exactly what he should do, I guess.

The Patriots have been heavily criticized for their 2009 & 2010 second half play over the last few weeks by this show, and rightfully so.

In the last two second halfs they have played, the Patriots have scored 56 points. Their defense has given up only 14 points, and has 4 interceptions to their credit.

So, will this get the attention it deserves? Or will it be completely ignored? :)

Considering it was against the Bills and Dolphins with Henne at QB, I dont know how much attention this really deserves.

The Bills I can understand, but the Dolphins have been considered the "most complete team in the division" (Albert Breer on T&R today). I definitely think it deserves some attention.

Do you listen to the show? Seriously, do you listen? Go. To. The. Big Show. Tomorrow. Don't waste your time, or the wax in your ears.

Thanks Sparky, beat me to it. Felger has always been the first to point out when he is wrong and while one game doesn't mean much, it was a much better effort than expected and I'm sure he will admit that.

The same QB who went for 360 against the Jets 8 days ago.
The Dolphins have more pieces than they had last year, but they are not a very deep team, and dont have a lot of elite talent on offense other than Long and Marshall. Obviously I am encouraged by the way the Pats played especially after the first few series, but Henne also looked shell-shocked for portions of the game. He made some moronic throws, like the first pick to Ninkovich, and played a role in our defense looking as good as it did. If a proven QB is playing like that its one thing, when its a guy who is traditionally a below average NFL QB its something else. Thats why I wouldnt point to this performance and say 'they have solved the 2nd half issues'. IMO I will value the SD, Indy and PIttsburgh games much more than this game because all 3 of those teams have competent QBs

Yesterday he said that the Patriots are going to kill the Dolphins and predicted that Moss was going to have a big game. He also admitted that he's only negative towards the Pats for stuff they have done in the past (lousy drafts, not keep free agents, etc) but that he is pretty optimistic when it comes to picking them week to week. And he is.

The thing about Felger is that he doesn't stick to a script like the Big Show or Massarotti does. I think that he was generally pissed off with the one-dimensional douchebag character he was saddled with on EEI and tries to be more multi-faceted. I think that for smart sports fans, it works. But for the steakheads who love EEI's way of doing things, it kills them because they can't process how a sports commentator can have different opinions on different things, even if those things revolve around the same team.

Edit: That's what's so frustrating about Massarottti. He has a guy right next to him that is interested in doing an interesting sports call-in show and Mass is either too dumb (doubtful) or too lazy (probably) to escape from his character. Ninety percent of the time you know what Massarotti is going to say and while that's bad radio, it's also boring radio. And I may be reading too much into this, but Felger seems to me to be a guy who wants to change sports radio in Boston (why, I have no idea) but Massarotti doesn't seem to care one way or the other.

Lord...I'm not sure what's more startling. That Mazz only watched like 12 minutes of the game last night, or that he would ADMIT ON THE RADIO to only watching 12 minutes of the game.

That is a real disgrace.

I just turned it on. Did he give a reason for this, like real life getting in the way (which happens)? Or was it more that he just couldn't be bothered to watch?

It's one thing for Toucher and Rich to say they didn't watch the whole game, those dudes have to get up at some ungodly hour in the morning to do their show.

Your show is 2-6, Mazz... what is your fuckin excuse?

Yesterday he said it was because he was going to a movie premier with his wife, which he didn't want to cancel. I have no problem with that at all.

But for fuck's sake, how about waking up a little early this morning and watching the game on Tivo before heading in to work?

Bingo. I don't care that he went out last night.

But how about watching the game this morning? That's the equivalent of coming into your job unprepared. Something that would get you heavily crticized in other professions but seems to be accepted in sports media.

By the way, for those that say Felger is always negative, please listen to the show today. As JMOH said earlier, Felger seems to be the rare exception of a guy who doesn't follow a schtick. He's as genuine as you can be on the radio.

Nice call Jack. Nice shot at Mazz. Actually, two nice shots.

And I agree with everybody on Mazz. An unpardonable sports sin to not watch the game at some point. Shame on him.

Ha. Thanks. But it's true what I said. I watched the sequence when Brady comes off the field a few times last night and I thought to myself, "Am I the only one who loves this?", and sure enough, Felger brings it up right away. I rag on the show quite a bit (mostly due to Mazz) but it is the little things like this (and Felgie's rants) that separate this show from others in Boston.

He's admitted stuff like this on many occasions. At first I gave him credit for being honest...but then I realized he admits to it because he doesn't think it's a big deal. Watching the full game is part of his job. How does he not know this?

Edit - grammar

The Moss situation is so teed up for a Kraft is cheap, BB arrogant, they are flushing the season, I love all stars rant from Mazz. It's perfect.

But how can he with Felger smiling from ear to ear? The only way it could get better from Felger's standpoint is if they work a three-way that would bring Tebow to Fox.

Today should be interesting.

Who is ready for a 4 hour boner from Felger beginning at 2pm?

I know I am. It'll be great today.

Now dcmissle, it seems to me that you don't listen to the same show I listen to, or you don't listen that often, but Felger will not say that the Pats are flushing the season. Quite the opposite I suppose he'll suggest. This will help their season, I imagine he'll posit.

If these guys bug you so much I suggest you do what SJH above admonishes, listen to your ipod. I will not take that advice, especially since he and Rip neglected to text me telling me where they were drinking after the Sox game last Saturday.

You didn't get ignored, pumpkin; Seven texted me late and said you boys were staying in due to save some money. I didn't think he was lying.

Sparky, no reception for us in Fenway. At all. Fucking AT & T.
I had said that was a possibility but was depending on where and when you guys were going. I texted Rip that very question to no response. My soul was crushed.

Back on topic, I honestly have no idea how F+M will play out today. It could be extremely entertaining and Felger at his best, or it could be cringeworthy and horrible. I'll tune in to find out though, that's for sure.

Well, I only watched the first few minutes of his Comcast show - I do have to work sometimes - and Felgy seemed delighted, and vindicated, that Moss was going. I don't think he'll be irrational about this. I don't THINK, I said.

Felger has been criticizing Moss, Maroney and the rest of the new culture for causing the Pats to "lose their soul". Well, now it's as if Bill has finally taken Felgie's advice. That means Mike had better run out to the store and buy himself some nightwear, because he has no other choice than to jump on the Pats bandwagon now.

tough part for him is he has to skirt the "value" issue he so despises, because one of the better arguments for this trade is that they got good value out of moss and for him as an unsigned free agent, so it has to be entirely about how it improves the team on the field, which is not the easiest argument to make, although he's been making it for quite some time

Felger was happy, but was under control last night. His main point was that Brady is going back to his best receiver being, "The guy that's open", instead of trying to force balls to Moss like in the Jets game. He also was really excited about Favre and Moss being on the same team because he really hates both players. His Favre rants are really good, so if Minn starts to circle the drain the show could be appointment radio.

I rarely listen at work, but today I've got the headphones ready for 2pm. They just have to have some good guests to talk about this situation.

I'm interested in F's take on Vincent Jackson and if he'd be a fit. They certainly have the cap space and picks to get this done.

Mazz just said that the compensation is the same, whether they let him walk or trade him straight up for a 3rd. Wasn't that disproved last night?

I sent it to their show's email and it came back as undeliverable (maybe full email?). So I sent it to both individually. I love that Felger is sticking to his guns and now is jumping aboard the bandwagon. He's bitched about Moss for so long saying they would be better off without him, it's nice to see he isn't backtracking. I hope he's right.

Yup.

I posted the following in one of the Randy Moss threads:

Because he's a 10+ year vet, the compensation for Moss would be a 5th round pick, not a 3rd. AdamJT13 says:

A rule stipulates that a team cannot receive more than a fifth-round comp pick for a player with 10 or more seasons of NFL experience.
So the reports of the Pats receiving a 3rd round pick for Moss, sad though they may be, could very well be correct.
