They’ve been doing Patriots pre-season stuff so far today but I’m waiting for the Sox game to end to tune in.
Yeah, I can't tell if this is a bit or not. He's loathsome. You guys are crazy, Jim Murray cracks me up. We're on the same humor wavelength or something. He doesn't take himself too seriously, despite whatever hot take of the week he's spouting. His production bits are pretty good, too. ("Oh Schedule Day" sung to the tune of "Oh Christmas Tree", etc.)
He works really well with Felger and Mazz, and the good chemistry is noticeable on the air. You can tell they enjoy working together.

His production bits are horrendous.
Yeah, I can't tell if this is a bit or not. He's loathsome.
Huh.
I can't tell if this is a joke or not, I've literally never heard anyone say a positive thing about Murray. He's the absolute worst. Zero redeeming qualities. You guys are crazy, Jim Murray cracks me up. We're on the same humor wavelength or something. I have a dozen or so posts here about this but Weekday Jim Murray is the worst. He’s a miserable prick despite having his dream job and his bits are terrible including the one you posted. You guys are crazy, Jim Murray cracks me up. murray does make me laugh but he also comes off as a huge a-hole kinda like if al bundy did sports talk radioYou guys are crazy, Jim Murray cracks me up. Good luck. And an apology
This is Felger in four words.creating a massive strawman
Got ya. That's why I asked. I should have known that was bad faith tweet by Thornton.I’m not sure why Jerry Thornton didn’t tag Christian Arcand. He put that idea out there. Felger wasn’t buying it.
Arcand turned out to be a disappointment. all the part time crews see the blueprint and follow suit with hot takes.Got ya. That's why I asked. I should have known that was bad faith tweet by Thornton.
Dare I ask what he said in that pimply voice of his?Carlton called. Wow. I thought he would never be heard from again.
Broken clocks are right twice a day.Killing the Red Sox now. Quitters. Frauds. Heads up their ass. Vazquez sucks.
They just replayed his call. Apparently he had some serious medical issues (still does) which kept him off line etc for the past few years. The on-topic thrust of his call was BB's record without Brady and that he's on the hot seat with the Mac from Tuscaloosa.Unfortunately, I only caught the very end of the call. Apparently his absence was not due to him being incarcerated as speculated by Mazz and Murray previously.
Because BBs coaching record with the Browns 30 years ago is of course super relevant to 2021.They just replayed his call. He called in a week or two ago. Had a good opening line (“Cat Boy got married?!?!!?). Didn’t get into specifics, but admitted he’s been dealing with a serious medical issue.I just unmuted my TV (had Zo & Bertrand on then took a cal) and heard Carlton yelling. When did he come back? That voice is terrible.
more money, more job security, less hours, far less travelView: https://twitter.com/TonyMassarotti/status/1436820636266123265
Why did he sell his soul for hot takes. He seems like he would have had a really good career As a beat writer
And I would have done the same as well. He got a significant raise to work radio plus that limited easy schedule as well it’s a no brainer.more money, more job security, less hours, far less travel
Because being a beat writer is difficult, with long hours, shit pay, no job security, the people you cover think you’re subhuman (and most are absolute idiots who give the same five canned responses or outright lie to you) and half of your audience thinks you’re an idiot and the other half thinks you’re making everything up. Not only that but you’re away from the people who love you for 150+ days a year AND you have to make sure you get every piece of news first or your boss is up your ass.View: https://twitter.com/TonyMassarotti/status/1436820636266123265

Well, almost. I'd wager the audience and it's thoughts on you would be the same on sports radio as it is on a newspaper beat. Particularly the thinking you're an idiot thing and particularly for Mazz.Because being a beat writer is difficult, with long hours, shit pay, no job security, the people you cover think you’re subhuman (and most are absolute idiots who give the same five canned responses or outright lie to you) and half of your audience thinks you’re an idiot and the other half thinks you’re making everything up. At least being on the radio pays and you don’t really have to deal with any of the above crap. I wouldn’t want to be a beat writer for anything.
Yeah, but he doesn’t have to travel or work more than, what, 30-35 hours a week all-in? Shit, he doesn’t even need to prepare for the show because he talks out of his ass as a self-conscious strategy. Lack of knowledge is almost irrelevant in talk radio; but you can’t get away with that as a beat writer.Well, almost. Guessing a four hour show equals around three hours of actual on air time, x 5 days a week = 15ish hours, plus an hour (again minus ads) extra for the five days when the baseball show is on (seasonal). So his workweek is about 15 to 20 hours a week depending on the time of year. Though I guess it's also implied that he has to watch every sporting event, which many people do anyways for free.Yeah, but he doesn’t have to travel or work more than, what, 30-35 hours a week all-in? And how many people that he dumps on, athletes or coaches, does he have to confront in person anymore? Zero?
Yes, that’s definitely true. But I’m sure the money he makes more than compensates for having to deal with his audience. Also, I think he knows that his job is to provoke where you could argue as a beat writer his job was to inform.Well, almost. I'd wager the audience and it's thoughts on you would be the same on sports radio as it is on a newspaper beat. Particularly the thinking you're an idiot thing and particularly for Mazz.
Don’t forget, he has endorsements too. I’d be shocked if he wasn’t making over a million.I've always been curious what they get paid. I can remember when D&C were in their prime and it would get leaked that they were each making a million a year. Obviously F&M are a ratings juggernaught but I'd be surprised if they got half that.
But again I really have no idea.
Good radio personalities put substantially more time into their shows than just the on-air time. I have no idea what Mazz puts in - his shtick makes it seem like he puts in very little but I don't want to assume anything, as shtick is just shtick - but I'd wager it's quite a bit more than 20 hours per week.Guessing a four hour show equals around three hours of actual on air time, x 5 days a week = 15ish hours, plus an hour (again minus ads) extra for the five days when the baseball show is on (seasonal).
