Had a feeling.

Not looking good for Dola.

I don't remember Floyd doing much kick/punt returning though. Don't want to see Slater or Cyrus the Disaster in the role.

One more weapon for Tom.

I doubt a guy that was arrested Monday for DUI is really going to factor much into the game plans down the stretch, especially a guy that has struggled this year to get on the same page with his QB. It's probably more of an extended look-see for next season.

Does he have to be on the active roster or can we IR him? Worth a shot for 2017 but probably too late for 2016 impact.

He's a UFA. It's for this year,

I'm aware of that. My meaning was that if they have him in this year, they get a better read on if he's someone they want to bring back as a UFA and if he somehow gets over all the issues he has with the Cardinals offense and picks up the apparently much more difficult Pats offense and helps this year, that would be awesome.

DUI problems aside, he hasn't been that good this season. Since he's a free agent, I would assume that they'd get a comp pick for him if he leaves.
I think that is the case with the comp pick. He did have a 1000 yard season before.

Isn't he facing a suspension for the DUI? You have to imagine if he wasn't before he certainly is now that he's a Patriot.

Not a huge surprise to me after watching the offense struggle to get enough healthy WRs on the field to run an offense the other night. Take a look at him and see if he can fill in for Amendola, and get rid of him if he can't learn the offense quickly enough.

After the year he's posted to date, there's zero chance anyone is signing him to a contract that will move the needle from a compensatory perspective.

Believe it or not, some people who get arrested for drunk driving also get arrested on other occasions for driving high.
OK? I dont know the history, just taking the post at face value.

I dont think he's been very good this year, so would rather not deal with the headache. He does have physical attributes that no other Pats receiver has, so hopefully this ends being another Blount where being a shithead somewhere else works out in the Pats favor.

He is part of the comp pick formula from what Ive read (I think Reiss)

Don't love this if he eats into Mitchell's snaps/development. Talented player but has generally underperformed his promise, though I always thought Arizona's scheme hurt his cause. A lot of high risk deeper passes leading to subpar catch rates.

So, the tweet says "claim". Are we sure this means that Pats won the claim?

They might have an answer for the punt return situation soon.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Taking a closer look at their options in the wake of the punt-return struggles of rookie Cyrus Jones, the New England Patriots brought Devin Hester to town for a visit on Thursday.

This marked a return trip to Gillette Stadium for Hester, who played against the Patriots on Monday night in his final game with the Baltimore Ravens. Hester, who returned one punt for 12 yards and struggled to field another punt Monday, was released by the Ravens on Tuesday.

Nothing is looming in terms of a contract agreement between the Patriots and Hester, according to Comcast Sports Net.

Hopefully he'll get Sheldon Richardson treatment. He's had a couple nice games this season, but no consistency. Obviously, the offense flows through DJ and Larry, but he had plenty of opportunities to have a nice season as a second receiver there. Palmer's not having a great season anymore, but it's hard to look at Fitz' numbers and blame Floyd's regression on the QB.

He's got a long long history of DUI's going back to his days at Notre Dame. I'd put money on him being an alcoholic.

Where's the upside to this move?

He won't get up speed on the playbook or Tom's trust scale to be factor (unless he's a prodigy at the Pat's system).

Is he going to be run out there simply for Punk/Kick returns?

Has to be a depth move mostly. Hard to believe he could just come in and be very productive in the system right off the bat. Upside is solid I guess, and the comp pick doesn't hurt (assuming anyone wants to sign him after this season).

FWIW this list doesn't have the Pats even making official contact with him prior to the 2012 draft http://www.nepatriotsdraft.com/2012-patriots-draft-contacts

Fitz catches a lot of passes in the slot and between the numbers. Palmer can't throw outside the numbers or deep effectively anymore. So I could see Palmer's regression hurting Floyd more than Fitzgerald.

I think what would make the most sense is to focus on a package of red zone plays and, outside of that, use him in the old Brian Tyms role where you can take a shot or two downfield to him that doesnt really rely on precision routes or reading the defense.

Just hard to trust him.

That's a good point. Fitz is at a career low YPC, has 0 catches over 40 yards and just 7 over 20. He's only fumbled 4 times in his career, so that's nice.

Getting a deep-threat this late into the season, who will have a few weeks to learn the offense, is a no-brainer. I'm not worried about his inconsistencies. Outside of Fitz, no one has had a consistent experience catching balls from Palmer in Arizona. Plus, Floyd has had a taste of the Pats-type offense with Charlie Weis at ND. Given the choice between Griff Whalen and Floyd, I'd absolutely take Floyd. This is a great pick up for the playoffs.

I have no expectations that the Patriots are going to get a comp pick for Floyd. The team has a ton of money to spend.

This was a very good move for the Patriots. I am stunned that he went so far down the waiver wire. Floyd is a fantastic talent and right now the Patriots are thin at pass catchers and guys who can stretch the field. If he doesn't end up getting suspended for the playoffs I don't see how this isn't, at worst, a B++ move.
