Many thanks to the fine technicians of Oakland for making a house call to reboot Wilyer.

He really reminds me of Trot Nixon a lot
Daubach was like that. 3 months of 800 OPS alternating with 3 of 600. (Or so it seems in my memory.....)
Both of these are good comparisons.

Manny is the guy I would think of who was the other way: at least in my memory, he would have a brief slump in which his Ks would spike and he would hit a lot of popups, but then he would become even more patient than usual for a few PAs, take a few walks, and then he would line a few singles over the second baseman, and then you'd know he was about to start crushing the ball. He had a sequence, like it was a method for getting out of a slump that he had developed.

This tells me that the team is not as worried about Houck's innings as the board is.

I hope they know what they're doing!

This A's series is really well timed, given the state of our pitching.

Let's score 4 more here and hand the rest of the game to Anderson.

Got him! He's got lots of rest ahead.
Yup! Hopefully, he's grading out super well on all the strength tests and such, and there's no concern about the fact that he's on pace for ~195 IP after never throwing more than 119 in a season at any level.

On one hand, that was a batting-practice fastball. On the other hand, he hit it in the air. I'll take it.

98.5mph EV, 35 degree launch - that was a very weather-aided homer.

Nonetheless, Masa's OPS is now over 700.

Great start from Houck, back on form!

A 3 inning save from Chase Anderson would be swell.

Out of 15 parks.
That’s based only on distance, and I believe @DeadlySplitter is saying it travelled that far due to the weather in Boston tonight. That’s maybe accurate, since it only had a .260 xBA.

That actually answers a question I had. I was curious how Wong’s homer had an .830 xBA despite being gone in all 30 parks

Dallas Braden is telling a great anecdote about Alan Embree challenging him (on pain of hazing) to find the Yawkey initials in the ballpark when he first came up with the A's.

Chase Anderson has been absolute nails in this role. It must be really hard to stay ready, but he's been really reliable.

He's striking out nobody, but he's not allowing many baserunners, and the point of the mop-up role is to eat innings more than prevent runs. His availability is a skill.

His importance was highlighted by his unavailability on Tuesday.
