First foul ball I ever caught was at McCoy as a kid.  Ben Mondor, who was walking amongst the crowd at the time, came down and asked me if I'd like it autographed by the player who hit it.  Needless to say, I said yes.  As I type this on my computer, that Garry Hancock autographed ball is sitting next to me in a plastic case which is likely worth more than the ball and autograph combined, but to me brings back happy memories of a childhood often spent at McCoy.  Godspeed, Garry.

If I remember correctly, he was the IL MVP once.  As a kid, I thought that meant he would automatically be a ML star.  First lesson that it doesn't always work out that way.  Thanks for some great McCoy memories, GH.

A three-time first-round draft pick (sort of - twice in supplemental draft). I knew he'd gone in the Armas trade, but didn't realize he'd played more games for the A's than for the Sox. RIP.

Kind of strange that the obit from the funeral home makes no mention of his time playing MLB.

Yeah, that is strange. I wonder if he was for some reason bitter about his experience in baseball?

Same.  I went to McCoy a ton as a kid and I was always upset that guys I thought were great AAA players like Hancock, Reid Nichols, and Chico Walker didn't get get a fair shot to play in Boston.  I was not aware of the concept of a AAAA player back then.

Sad to hear of Hancock's passing.
