He’s still really good offensively, almost all near the net, but will provide 15-20 mins of nice Offense off the bench.I’m blanking on Monroe. Can someone describe his game a bit, and how it might fit on the C’s?
Looking at the numbers, it seems he’s at least an upgrade on Theis, though he might be even less capable of stretching the floor.
Yeah he is 100% a low post player. But he's real good at it. You know all those nights we freak out because no one on the second unit can score? This should help a lot.I’m blanking on Monroe. Can someone describe his game a bit, and how it might fit on the C’s?

He's a different player than Theis. Monroe gives them a low post scoring presence besides Horford and added rebounding help off the bench. It's not a huge addition but their depth just got better.I’m blanking on Monroe. Can someone describe his game a bit, and how it might fit on the C’s?

No, the DPE cannot be split between multiple players. It is now gone.I'm sure Danny would've preferred to wait until after the deadline to consider all of his options, but this should help the second unit, especially on the boards. Hopefully he can be competent defensively.
Also- can the C's use the rest of the DPE on another player? $8.4M-5M leaves 3.4M, which is enough for someone like Tyreke Evans ($3.2M). Anyone know the rules?
Yes, a team can use a single exception for multiple players. A team can't combine multiple exceptions for a single player, though.I'm sure Danny would've preferred to wait until after the deadline to consider all of his options, but this should help the second unit, especially on the boards. @Lazy vs Crazy looks to be correct. The DPE is now gone.Yes, a team can use a single exception for multiple players. A team can't combine multiple exceptions for a single player, though.

Wait, so Danny and Brad can stop pretending Hayward isn’t coming back? Or they can’t?Yes, a team can use a single exception for multiple players. A team can't combine multiple exceptions for a single player, though.
Why are you assuming they’re done?Ask, and you shall receive! Thanks guys.
As someone who’s a bit bearish on the C’s prospects this season (Raptors will likely capture the #1 seed, Hayward is unlikely to contribute meaningfully, etc.), I’m mostly relieved that Danny didn’t trade a future asset for a Tyreke Evans rental.
This doesn't, and shouldn't, take them out of consideration for Tyreke Evans. That transaction is entirely dependent on whether his price ends up being something Ainge is comfortable with. But, Evans is cheap enough that moving the salary to acquire him is pretty easy, so losing the DPE isn't a major factor there. For example, Larkin, Nader, and a pick for Evans works as the framework for a trade.Ask, and you shall receive! Thanks guys.

Just until the end of this year. No real downside, other than if someone better gets bought out we likely can't get them instead. So wait -- a one-year deal takes him into next season or? Any downside to this? Clearly, it means they probably won't be getting a 3-pt. shooter to help the offense.
He just got bought out by the Suns. The Pelicans tried to sign him to be their starting center but we had more money to offer due to the DPE.Why was he available?
Unique set of skills. Excellent passer, almost unselfish to a fault. Displays great court vision and knowledge of teammates positioning on the court (2.7 assists per game) ... Sneaks passes into extremely tight quarters with perfect placement ... Handles the ball very adroitly, especially going to his natural left side ... Possesses a versatile offensive game
Monroe is a good passer but he lacks Horford's two most important skills: mobility along the perimeter and the ability to protect the rim, or even be an impactful defender at all.Assuming this still holds true (from his college scouting report), he sounds a bit like Horford without the 3-pt. shot and apparently more rebounding chops.
I know he’ll start on the bench, but is there any reason to think he won’t earn his way to starter minutes over Baynes, especially with the way he’s been playing?Love it. Just got a career 14/9 post player for nothing. For a bench/depth piece, you can do a lot worse.
Baynes fits better with the starters where he doesn't have to score and can just focus on defense.I know he’ll start on the bench, but is there any reason to think he won’t earn his way to starter minutes over Baynes, especially with the way he’s been playing?
Thank you. I missed that transactionHe just got bought out by the Suns. The Pelicans tried to sign him to be their starting center but we had more money to offer due to the DPE.
Yeah. Not the best fit but will help at the margin. Everyone who still has it in their heads that the C's need a traditional big who clogs the paint will be happy. However he isn't a difference maker in any sense of the word.
I doubt this is their last move too.
They’re not done, but I’m less bullish than others about their prospects of reaching the Finals, and therefore less willing to countenance trading future assets to strengthen this year’s team. Why are you assuming they’re done?
Not far off. This is his 8th season.Monroe's a very solid half court player. Good rebounder, great passer out of the low-post, solid mid-range jumper, and a good screen-setter. He's nowhere near the defensive player Baynes is and he doesn't protect the rim at all, but he's always struck me a smart player and he'll provide much-needed offense from the bench. I think he's a pretty good fit for the second unit. I'm surprised he's only 27, it feels like he's been working the Celtics' bigs for a decade.
Not that I remember. He also played alongside Drummond which would help hide a lot of shortcomings defensively.I thought he had a decent rep as a defender in his early days in DET, no?
I like that write-up. If that's accurate, and he's a load down low, then if the defense drops down on him, he'll have a host of guys to kick it out to.Assuming this still holds true (from his college scouting report), he sounds a bit like Horford without the 3-pt. shot and apparently more rebounding chops.
I'm just getting old, it seems. Not far off. This is his 8th season.
+1. agreed. You will choke on these words, sir. Coach Brad going to put Monroe in positions to succeed
So still the best team in the East?Without taking us too far afield, they’re roughly a .600 team since the long winning streak, and I think that’s indicative of their talent level ex-Hayward.
So still the best team in the East?
Since their 12-1 stretch the Raptors are 11-8 (a .578 WP) and just .594 overall for the full season not including it.
The Cavaliers since their 18-1 stretch are a .368 team (going 7-12), and would be sitting at 12-19 without.
If only Eric were a basketball Van.It's almost like if you take any team's hottest stretch out of the equation they don't look as good.
