To call Edinburgh beautiful doesn’t do it justice. Architecturally it’s got to be right up there with Barcelona, Prague, etc. and then you’ve got these massive hills - mountains really- with savage cliffs erupting out of nowhere, and lush greenery everywhere. I haven’t before been to a city where there’s literally jaw/dropping vistas of a 5000 Ft vertical rock face coming into view when you just round the corner by a Starbucks.

of course in such a place the human history is every bit as compelling so I pity the visitors who have to content themselves with the stunning vistas and don’t get to enjoy the running commentary of our own fletcherpost on their knockabout. Rest assured that as you toiled away in the salt mines yesterday we were having a good time.

Friday game so get those picks and lineups in. Hatters’ home opener today. Hammers have looked good, Luton have not, but I would not want to be the opposition at this game.

If there was two thought bubbles on that photo it might read.

"Hibs, Hearts and Aberdeen are gonna get pumped in Europe tonight." - which they did, urgh!

"The Toffees now have a goal threat." - Which they do.

In honour of Chris and his wonderful family I predict a hard fought away win for Everton against Sheffield Utd - 1-2. Maupay will affect the game in some significant way...perhaps by not entering the field of play during game time.

No specific thread for Non-CL Euros draws, so I guess a game thread is as good as anywhere.

Brighton get Ajax and Marseille. Which is both going to generate memorable match ups BHA fans will still be talking about in 20 years, and be really tough.

Honestly, with the seeding and same country rules, there's no-one in the draw that would've worried me if I were Liverpool. I'd rather not have had Betis, Marseille, or Sporting, but you'd wouldn't exactly be afraid of those trips.

Anyone who had never seen Kennilworth Road before…it’s something. Look up pictures of the entrance to the away end

edit: I love it of course, but it’s not what would be considered PL standard in todays age

I remember Kinnilworth when it had a plastic pitch. It was once described to me as playing on concrete with carpet. Thankfully, the English FA banned such pitches for teams playing top flight. Of course this was a long time ago in the 80’s.The David Pleat era.

The Dean Village. Behind us is the water of Leith. If you head right you go up stream to the modern art gallery, downstream takes you to Stockbridge.
I'm always banging on about the Dean Village. Well worth going there for a walk if/when you're in Edinburgh.

Thanks - Dean village is a really neat little hidden away part of Edinburgh from what I remember. Used to walk downtown along the Water of Leith on the way to a session in some long forgotten pub. Ahh - memories!

nowhere, really
I don’t understand what Luton’s plan for scoring goals is. They don’t want to possess, they don’t seem to press to set up a counter … they have WEST HAM looking like they play tiki taka.

I duno how i feel about The Hammers fans singing 'Champions of Europe, we know what we are' all season. I accept it's catchier than singing Champions of the third string European Club Competition' but all the same...i feel it's a stretch.

Luton have had 13 shots but none on target. West Ham enjoying around 2/3 of the ball, but it''s just Bowen's goal to show for the domination. Can Luton score, their fans have been great, be nice if they had something to really cheer about.

A well delivered Ward-Prowse corner, Zouma unmarked in the box with the header, goal for West Ham.

West Ham are gonna have 10 points from four matches - three of them away from home. Not a bad start for dead beat Moyes.

Luton score. Andersen with a header from close range. Hurrah! three minutes to get an equaliser.

Hold on, should Luton have had a penalty for hand ball. VAR says no, but I dunno...

I’d be stunned if Luton don’t get relegated.
Same, though felt similarly before the season. It's a level too far with their budget, but maybe they can bank the money, be competitive in the Championship again afterward, and get the move to a new ground finally done. Real Swindon/Barnsley/Blackpool premier league vibes (the latter, of course, having done incredibly to take it to the last day).

Guess Musty wasn't good enough last week, so they brought in a British voice from Golf Channel...NBC Sports should know that we can tell the difference b/w Lowe and other British dialects!

I'm all for handball forgiveness when your arm goes down to brace your body during a slide tackle or when it goes up (as it did for JWP there) in a jumping motion, but that just doesn't seem like how the rule has been interpreted in the VAR era.

Unless they announce that they've revisited the whole rule again, it looked like a clear-cut example of a handball.

I think they could break a few records this season… not the kind you want to break.

As long as it’s done with proper irony I think it’s a wonderful thing to do

Considering how bad WH were at certain times, and how poisonous the fan base mood was, let them have at it.

Oh I'm here for it, as one who lived in the shadows of Canning Town. But i am looking forward to the reponses (using the same tune and most of the same words) of the other fan bases who have tasted domestic and European success in relatively recent times.

The Davie Moyes redemption arc has been one of the more pleasing narratives of this troubled epoch.

I’m rather embarrassed to say this, given how many times I’m in Edinburgh, but I’ve never heard of Dean Village. To add insult to injury, I usually stay at a hotel in Charlotte Sq which appears to be a stones throw away. Wifey and I need to check it out next time.

To be fair it's not a very large area of land, and it's kinda low key out of the way. It's best experienced walking through it on the way from or to Stockbridge and the Modern Art Gallery, along the Water of Leith. I've known about it forever cos The Modern Art Gallery is my favourite place in Edinburgh and Stockbridge is lovely too. The Dean Village was hoaching when we were there t'other day, which must piss off the residents, they even have a temporary coffee stall there now. It used to be a well kept secret, but not any more. I'd love to live there but i imagine it's very expensive. I've never met anyone who lived there.

Oh come on Everton, when a well weighted ball is required the touch becomes clumsy. They're not far off creating really good chances, but the craft is lacking.

Patterson's been well off it so far this season.

Everton really hard done by there. That shoulder tug was incredibly cynical and as much of a DOGSO as you’ll see and it ends with a FK at edge of box. SHU lucky there imo

Crazy finish and 2 great saves by Pickford on a corner that probably shouldn’t have happened to end it at 2-2

But also fuck Pickford

That’s the only time Pickford’s head has ever helped his team.

Burnley pick Spurs apart for an early goal. Really impressive goal for Burnley as Lyle Foster rolls it past Vicario.
