I don't know.  This seems like he may have a little Pedro Feliciano in him. While he wasn't abused as bad as Feliciano, he did 3 straight years of 50+ appearances.  Looks like Oakland may have used him and lost him.

I'm fine adding these guys on the cheap - hopefully these cheap pickups are a sign that Cherington has learned that spending big on relievers (trades for Bailey, Melancon, Hanrahan; Mujica, etc.) are bad value props.  I suspect one of these guys like Machi and Cook will turn out to be a solid piece in 2016.

I don't know. The A's kind of specialize in finding and developing young pitching. When they trade a pitcher for just cash considerations, he might just be done.

The wife's not a fan, she threw her shoe in the direction of the television when they showed Cook's career stats on NESN.

Cook still throws hard, although it's down 1 MPH in an admittedly ridiculously small sample size.

Isn't that what some people on this board wanted more of in the 'pen?  And why not take a gamble at this point?

Yeah, that Melancon is one terrible pitcher. Why would the Sox want somebody like that one the roster?

He was a terrible pitcher here, not sure there is any doubt about that.  Melancon would not be the first pitcher who could not hack it in the AL but found success in the NL.

She has an issue with his career ERA of 2.93, more than a K per inning, and less than a hit per inning?

The same could be said for Ugueth Urbina. That doesn't mean I want him on the 40 man.

I hope whoever removed my post and posts of others, regarding Cook's suckitude, feels better now.

Billy Beane is not an idiot.  At least not with cost-controlled RP's.
