I'm laughably bad at this, but it's fun.

I await the day where all 9 answers can be Rich Hill.

It's a great game but I have found it very difficult. My knowledge of players outside the Sox and especially outside the AL East has diminished a ton as time passes. I've never been a fantasy baseball player. A lot of guys have just fallen out of my brain.

Had my first 8 of 9 tonight and was so desperate for a guess on Detroit-SD that I was going to take the cheater's way out and guess Edwin Jackson, but I couldn't remember his name. Turns out old friend Jody Reed would also have worked in that spot.

6/9

The career accomplishment/team combos seem to be the easiest to nail the most common answer, probably because there are such limited options before even factoring in the team. The common teams thing often has odd choices reeking of recency bias. Didn't learn my lesson from the last time there was a Tiger/Rockie square and went with the same answer, and the common answer is still the same as it was last time.

9/9 with a 196 rarity score as I played it very safe today. Was tempted to use Mel Ott for the Giant with 500 dingers but didn't want to risk it.

Edit: Glad to see that with the B-Ref acquisition the game finally has a picture of Willie Mays:D

I was 6/6 until I hit the Rockies squares and went 0/3.
For some reason, I had the same issue with Tigers and 1/3. 7/9 overall after yesterday's 5/9 disaster.

No idea why I went with Hank Greenberg and 500 HRs. Totally forgot Sheffield actually played in Detroit. My guess for Tigers/Rockies was Armando Galarraga. I had the wrong expansion team (he played for ARI).

9/9 - Used Matt Stairs, which is basically cheating. Yorvit Torrealba being somewhere in the back of my brain makes me think there is something wrong with me.

I didn't read the fine print and today went right for Fisk as RotY/White Sox. Didn't realize that awards/stats combos need to match the correct uniform for the year they won the award. Makes sense.
It does make sense in some ways, but not in others--if it's a career milestone, you can provide any of the teams, not just the one the player accomplished the milestone with.

I challenged @Brand Name on twitter to try to get all 9 players aren't wearing the hat of the team(s) in their photo, which might be impossible for mere mortals... but I bet she can get it done. (So if there's Philly/NYM, using Pedro works because his BB-Ref photo has him, rightfully, in a Red Sox hat. Also, players without hats count.)

I thought I would go for a less obvious Giant 500 HR guy and couldn't figure out why it rejected my answer.

My brain is mush and spit out Willie Stargill when I clearly wanted Will McCovie.

I saw that tweet. I bet Jess can do it. She knows players that played before hats were invented. She's not even old. I'm a couple hundred years older than she is.

I’m irrationally proud of my Matt Nokes choice thanks to randomly remembering that Topps (89?) card from back in the day.

I would like to shake the bad of anyone who put Frank Thomas for their A’s 500 HR hitter. Speaking of which, who’s the 5th? Thomas, Foxx, McGuire, Jackson, ????

Rarity score of 192.

Willie McCovey played 11 games for Oakland in 1976.

Just my second day of playing. I only got 6 correct. The 500 home run club makes rarity scores difficult, but I was pretty happy with my three non HR guys. D/CR 7%, D/SD 1% and SF/SD 2%. Asking again if anyone might know if previous grids are available if you haven't already played them.

Not currently. According to The Athletic, BBRef may make old grids available to subscribers, but for now you can find old grids but can't fill them out unless you have a printer and a pen.

Took me way too long to remember a certain ex-Tiger and Rockie:

Jose Iglesias
See this is a good example of what I said above. I know this player quite well! Could I have told you he was once a Colorado Rockie? Hell no!

I’m really good at the stats part, much less so at the teams part.

I’ve looked around a little bit but haven’t found that you can. That’s hardly gospel though.

You can't. As far as I can tell from google searches, sorry.

I just want to complete them so I cheat and look up guys before entering. Would’ve been much better at this 10 years ago. Damn life getting in the way of knowing random baseball players.

8. The ONE time I'm going to ever dislike bottom-middle. All kinds of historical teams so hey. This was going to be good.

Even when I'm right, I'm wrong.
I did get a lower percentage in one square than @Brand Name. That is cool. Not that it is a competition. If it was, Jess is Georgia Tech and I'm Cumberland.
My guess for Reds .300 hitter was Tommy Helms. He did do it once but in only 46 AB. I am very happy with my lower right pick.

8/9. I tried getting cute with Paul O’Neil but he never hit .300 for the Reds. That rat fucker.

9/9, got top left thanks to the “I remember him from the “super veteran” card I had of him from the box of baseball cards my friend’s older brother gave me” method! And I just found a picture of that card to post here, which brings back memories

I did have to look up the upper left corner today, then kicked myself even though he is at 0.2%. Usually 80s/90s baseball knowledge goes a long way with the rarity score, but one guy helped send me just over 100 since I didn't feel like double-checking more obscure names...
