Your points seems to be that 1) apps don't matter if the OS is nice 2) Microsoft's OS are great because they're used by many offices. Most people aren't going to agree with this for a mobile phone.

Jayhoz's points about OSs are true; ME, Vista and 8 are all hated operating systems. Internet Explorer also is considered inferior to its competitors. Just because MS products are regularly used, doesn't mean that they are the gold standard.
Can we please not do this in this thread.

My 4S got slower with every update before/around the time the 5 was released. When I went into the Verizon store to upgrade to 5, the person there essentially told me that most Verizon employees think they do it intentionally to slow down the phone. Obviously conjecture, but the thought struck me as well, as the phone kept getting slower, even as I freed up memory and cleaned it up. I never got to 7.1.2, so maybe that changed, or maybe it was just a result of poorly constructed updates.

It's clear to me that Verizon reps have no interest in selling the iPhone.
A few months ago I was looking at phones at a Verizon kiosk in my BJs store. I was up front with the guy and told him I was just looking and planned to wait to see what iPhone 6 would offer. He proceeded to slam everything iPhone for the next several minutes. I thought it was a little odd, since they do sell iPhones, but wrote it off as Android fanboyism.

Then a couple weeks ago I went into a full Verizon B&M store just to get my hands on the G3. First thing I noticed was that the iPhones are buried in the back corner literally right next to the dumb phones. As I was looking at the Androids I could overhear a lady who was working with a rep asking a million questions. Mostly "why is this phone better than that phone?" (got a mystery shopper vibe from her). Eventually she asked if she should wait for the new iPhone and "why is iPhone so great?". The rep tells her that the iPhone isn't considered great anymore, ultimately citing proprietary charger as their downfall. I found the whole exchange a little off-putting. Fine, you want to steer customers to higher profit Android devices but it's not that hard to point out a couple of benefits for an item you sell in your store.
Something like... "People like the simplicity of the iPhone and there are advantages if you are also a Mac user, but I think the Samsung S5 would be a better device for you because X,Y and Z".

Anyway, I guess my point is that I wouldn't take a Verizon reps opinion of anything iPhone related as impartial. Try a Google of "carriers hate iPhone" and you get plenty of hits.

I said it was conjecture, so take it with a grain of salt obviously. My phone, and particularly the internet, definitely did get slower with each update at that time, that's all I can tell you. I don't know why, but I did have my suspicions. I'm not sure how the satellite technology works, so maybe they just started decreasing the number of 4g compatible satellites and replacing them with 5g?

That actually wasn't the case with me, but as I've said I don't take them as experts. I probably shouldn't have mentioned it at all, but whatevs.

You have your suspicious that Apple deliberately screwed you to force you to buy a new phone but acknowledge it could have been the satellites (which don't exist) or a switch from 4G to 5G (which doesn't exist) all sourced from the high-school dropouts working at the Verizon store.

Jenny McCarthy has a tighter conspiracy theory.

I work for a competitor of Verizon and I wouldn't waste my time getting one of our retail employees' opinions on anything to do with the relative merits of phones.  I might use them to walk me through a complex change to my employee discount plan, but even then I'd want to see the change on their monitor before committing.  And unless you're in a brick and mortar store with the company logo bolted to the brick and mortar outside, chances are the sales rep doesn't work for the company anyway.

Sigh...

I really don't care one way or the other, and I've stated multiple times I don't know how the technology works; I was asking. Hence the question mark. I also never sourced any satellite or 4G/5G (I meant 3G to 4G, I had an older model maybe from 2011-2012) stuff to Verizon "high-school dropouts," as you so eloquently stated. I said I made a mistake even bringing the Verizon up, actually; I really just made a throw-away line based on my personal experience with the iPhone. My last post was actually trying to get at alternative reasons as to why my phone would have slowed down with the updates and asking about what it could have been, based on the fact that I don't know much about the technology.

1. I have a 4s. I didn't notice a slow down after the latest IOS upgrades.

2. I somewhat get what silverdude is saying. Most people don't need many apps and the windows phone has gotten good reviews. Besides, the more people use it, the better the app store will get.

3. I am bummed out that the new iphones have bigger screen sizes. I would love it if Apple released the 4s -or even the 5- with upgraded specs.

On the third point, I'm there (but don't care for the 4S screen size). 4" is the sweet spot for me (through too "big" occasionally since apps put controls at the top of the screen for some reason). I only really use my phone with two hands when I'm typing, so I don't care at all for anything bigger.

I like some of the features specific to what's rumored for the 6, but I don't care at all for the larger screens. I am psyched for Swype, though, and iOS 8 is pretty snappy (I've been on the latest beta).

I'll stick with the 5S indefinitely if phones are all going the too big route. I've looked at "mini" versions of other phones, and all are severely stripped down and usually over 4" anyway.

I'm not specifically excited about 4.7" over 4", but I can see sometimes why I might want a bit more size. I'd really have to hold it and see how usable it is with one hand, since it doesn't seem THAT much bigger I don't think it'll be a big deal. If they were offering both 4" and 4.7" then I'm not sure which I'd pick, but I'd probably lean toward 4" before trying the 4.7". 5.5" is definitely not even a consideration.

I'm on the "S" upgrade cycle anyway, so I have another year to see what they end up doing. I read a rumor that they're going to introduce a "one-handed mode" along with the larger screen phones, so maybe that will happen and alleviate any issues that may crop up in that department.

Yeah, I"m the same -- have always preferred smaller/sleeker, and still mainly do. That said, when glancing at directions/maps in the car I can see why a bigger screen would be handy.  Wld probably go for a 4.7", too, though have read some speculation that the sapphire glass will only be for the 5.5" not for the 4.7" -- that'd be a bit weird (and stupid) it seems to me, since having something so supposedly scratch-proof would be a big advantage.

What they finally should do is find a way to connect the smartphone to a car's receiver screen, or alternatively, let us fit a small tablet in the dash. That's the last frontier as far as I am concerned and it's a travesty that with all the technological advances these past few years, car stereos remain so far behind for the most part.

Unless car manufacturers / dealers can make money on the accessory it will never happen.

It will be interesting to see if such integration can be done while still blocking your ability to bring the browser and apps like ESPN or HBO GO onto the screen... you do realize there are laws making it illegal to have a TV or entertainment screen in a vehicle that's visible to the driver while the vehicle is in motion.

I suspect that's the reason, but still, there's a huge aftermarket for car receivers, someone should have built an aftermarket unit already.

edit - Pretty sure I heard mention of "iWatch" at the 6:16 mark.

Looks like the camera lens is protruding out of the back, which is weird in that it takes away from the overall sleekness. Better zoom or more MPs? I hope the 4.7 form factor isn't too big. I'd really like to hold one before ordering, but I probably can't wait that long. My son has my old 4, and he desperately wants to inherit my current 5s, so I'll likely be ordering the 6 as soon as it's available.

You iPeople worried about the size of the 6 just don't know what you are missing.  I have the LG G3 (see below) with a 5.5" screen.  I wouldn't want anything smaller at this point.  The Moto X below has a 4.7" screen.

Take a deep breath.  You'll survive.

These mean similar things, in essence. Cell phone cameras don't zoom, they just crop the image, causing the resolution to be off given that it's enlarging a smaller part of the image. I'm not sure they'd go for megapixels for the sake of megapixels (when this doesn't mean anything if your sensors are shit), but it will likely improve on the image stabilization among other things.

The camera protrudes slightly because you have two choices: have it protrude slightly, or make the entire phone slightly thicker.

The MotoX jayhoz shows above is a pretty good comp for the size of the iPhone 6 but if you can get your hands on an original HTC One (not the new M8) the dimensions are very close, but the iPhone will be significantly thinner.

I love that 5.5" G3 Screen, I still just don't know how I feel about managing a phone that big on a daily basis. Also when I have played with it in the store my finger kept hitting the volume controls which was annoying (admittedly It might have had something to do with the tethered security device on the back).

Unless the protruding lens means some kind of optical zoom. I think it's doubtful but would be awesome.

I hope we get a new appletv today. It's the only product we've heard no rumors about and it's well overdue.

Drocca,

Have you ever heard of Google? Or, you know, actually doing something for yourself for once instead of relying on others?

Showing new iPhone, extended camera lens, looks very similar to the leaks. Rounded edges
