iphone 6 incorrect usage

I've got the 64GB model of the iphone 6 which has about 55GB of usable space.  However my 'usage' indicates I have 4.7GB free but when I sum up the usage of each app listed below it only sums up to 12GB total.  I've got like 9GB in pictures, 2GB in messages, 4 apps that use between 100 and 200 MB and then like 50 apps that use less than 100MB.  In terms of apps that churn through a lot of data (and I think might have reclaiming cache issues) I use twitter frequently but that cant churn through that much, and I have my gmail and work exchange mail but they arent downloading attachments automatically so I cant envision them churning through that much data either.

Over the weekend I allegedly only had 50MB left so I wiped out all my music ~7GB so then I had 7GB free.  But today I only have 4.7GB free and I havent done anything that would have put 2GB on the phone.

Clearly something is wrong and in looking at the support website it seems as though I have a corrupt database or something like that and if I backup my phone, then wipe it and then restore it things should go back to normal.  But then I have to go reinstall all my work stuff like my VPN connection, 5 certificates and re-synch my safe token which I am really hoping to avoid because when I've done this in the past I've had issues and had to contact our corporate support and its a real pain.

Does anyone know of any way to fix this without doing a full wipe??

Could be crash logs and/or other caches. There are programs can scan for that and remove them; I got one (PhoneClean) in a software bundle at one point and it seemed to work well the couple times I used it.  You do have to pay for it I think.

It could be locally saved files if you've streamed videos (or Music)  off of the iTunes store. I know I had that problem with my iPad in the past - it had a few video files saved in memory but they weren't actually listed, because i had only streamed them, not told the Videos app to download them from the iTunes cloud. They did show up but were grayed out when i plugged the iPad into iTunes on my computer and looked under the movies tab. The easiest way I found to delete them was just resetting the iPad and restoring from a backup, but I believe there are apps that would let you access the file structure on the iOS device to delete them manually.

If the videos are like music, you can delete them by "downloading" the ones that are already sitting there taking up space, but not eligible for deletion because they arrived via "streaming". Once "downloaded", they can be deleted as if they were never "streamed."

Thanks for this recommendation because I think it fixed my problem.  I downloaded it and hooked my phone up to it and it saw a bunch of free space that wasnt being reclaimed and then to resolve it I was going to have to pay for it and I was a little sketched out by it so I didnt do it.  Then suddenly last night I looked at my usage and I only had 13GB used and 40+GB free so it seems like by just hooking my phone up to this it corrected itself.  Pretty awesome, thanks!

Yeah that's what I did to remove a few songs I noticed the other day. Not sure if it works for videos because I didn't think of it at the time.
