Not even that outside. Flaco played for them last year. It’s almost like they’re throwing up a desperate ball hoping that someone from outside will help them.

Jets' Joe Flacco: Six TDs in four starts overall
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire
Flacco finishes the 2020 season with 864 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions.
Flacco compiled those numbers over five appearances (four starts) while going winless for a Jets team that finished 2-14. He'll likely land a role as a veteran backup somewhere next season on a contract similar to the one-year pact he signed with New York in 2020.
Yeah, seems like they went with the approach of making it clear to Wilson it was his team, so there could be no veteran presence at the position, but never considered the possibility the backup would actually need to, you know, play. The best way I can put it is: I don’t mind that they signed Flacco; I do mind that they were in a position to have to sign Flacco if this is what they were going to do if Zach got hurt. it’s a bit incoherent. I wonder if this comes from ownership.
I don't necessarily think they never considered it. It's possible that they intended to make it clear to Wilson that the job was his and also recognize that, should he get hurt and have to miss multiple games, the cost to acquire a veteran placeholder QB wouldn't be prohibitive at all.Yeah, seems like they went with the approach of making it clear to Wilson it was his team, so there could be no veteran presence at the position, but never considered the possibility the backup would actually need to, you know, play.
Interestingly you could make this criticism of the Pats too, since I don’t think Hoyer at this point is any better than Mike White.Yeah, seems like they went with the approach of making it clear to Wilson it was his team, so there could be no veteran presence at the position, but never considered the possibility the backup would actually need to, you know, play.
But wouldn’t you at least want this guy practicing with you all spring / summer / fall?I don't necessarily think they never considered it. I think Hoyer even at this point is better than Mike White, but even if he weren't, he's still a veteran presence that can be helpful to Mac in a number of ways. I don't get how you go into a season with a rookie QB and no experience in your QB room.Interestingly you could make this criticism of the Pats too, since I don’t think Hoyer at this point is any better than Mike White.
Me? Yes!But wouldn’t you at least want this guy practicing with you all spring / summer / fall?
And to the bolded, what makes it even more interesting is that they barely played Wilson in the preseason. I bet Mac took like 3x the amount of snaps during the preseason games.Me? Yes!
Them? Who knows? Maybe they really wanted Wilson to get all the reps in camp and thought an established veteran wouldn't agree to that set-up?
Maybe they thought a veteran presence would hurt his confidence
Maybe they REALLY didn't like the FA options at the time and decided to handle it on the FA / trade market if they need arose.
My point was that they could have planned to handle this situation this way as opposed to being surprised, etc. Certainly doesn't make it the correct decision, though!
Jets had a lot of joint practices with other teams (Packers, Eagles), I would need more data on this “didn’t play a lot in the preseason” he took all the reps in camp and the joint practices. Preseason games are kind of a joke. He looked dominant because no one was trying to confuse him and most teams were playing backups against him even to start the game. The joint practices were more of a legit competition than the preseason games. And to the bolded, what makes it even more interesting is that they barely played Wilson in the preseason. It's all really odd how they have handled the situation. Almost Jets-esque. Oh wait.
Yeah I mean that is all fair, and it's only one data point. I still would have tried to get my guy more live action even if the joint practices are good competition. Mac played plenty in the joint practices too.Jets had a lot of joint practices with other teams (Packers, Eagles), I would need more data on this “didn’t play a lot in the preseason” he took all the reps in camp and the joint practices. They could have forfeited at any time or would that be too embarassing?
At what point does he think they started running up the score? The Pats were running almost exclusively in the 4th Q, and they only scored 23 points in the 2nd half.
I think running up the score is BS and sour graps, but FWIW, the Pats threw 8 passes in the 4th quarter and only 7 rushing attempts (excluding the 3 end-of-game kneel downs). At what point does he think they started running up the score? This is correct. They are professionals. Saleh had a great line about this on Kay’s show. Something like we are professionals this isn’t Alabama and William and Mary. Someone told him Bama ran it up on William and Mary and… wait for it….Saleh said:….. Same tree. That’s funny by coach.I think running up the score is BS and sour graps,
I think BB’s response to that would be he wanted Hoyer and crew to get live reps running plays that might matter if Mac ever got hurt, rather than handing off every play. Regardless professional athletes should never whine about someone else running up the score.I think running up the score is BS and sour graps, but FWIW, the Pats threw 8 passes in the 4th quarter and only 7 rushing attempts (excluding the 3 end-of-game kneel downs).
I admittedly didn’t listen to much of the game today (I listen thru Sirius because the games aren’t on tv in Boston) but the box score looked pretty good on offense. Is this cause for optimism or was Cincy’s game plan just that bad?
Congrats @luckiestman. That was a terrific performance by the team. Playing Mike White over Wilson the rest of the season isn't a good idea but it is.Mike White picked apart their zone and let his skill position players shine. It was a legitimately fun game. I will watch again later or tomorrow. NFLN might rebroadcast later in week.
Thanks. He was better than I thought on first watch (I rewatched most of his drives last night). Cincy zone was like a joke to him. I think Indy plays zone too so we will see how he does against them. The team looked so happy, I think he hit 10 receivers, total team effort. They could have easily lost that game but it was a professional performance from start to finish which we haven’t seen a lot of over the last 10 years.Congrats @luckiestman. I think it really has to do with Saleh. Even after the beating last week, the Jets HC was accountable, professional, yet stern during the press conferences. The effort yesterday was not shocking just on that alone.Thanks. He was better than I thought on first watch (I rewatched most of his drives last night). Cincy zone was like a joke to him. Saying a top 5 D was like a joke to him isn’t credit?Give the QB some credit. It is possible he is the better player. Draft pedigree isn't everything.
That would be cool, I actually would like to see how it lookedNFLN might rebroadcast later in week.
Mike White had made it to legendary status already?
With the amount of picks the Jets have going forward even if Mike White turns out to be the guy vs Zach Wilson I’m of the opinion it doesn’t matter. If you find your guy it to me it makes no difference if you struck gold with a lottery ticket vs 1,2. The optics suck but winning cures everything. Also, don’t get me wrong - I don’t think Mike White is the guy. You could probably trade Wilson for more than Darnold too. Even failed high profile QBs have value. Think the Panthers are regretting that trade now?It would be a lethal combination of hilarious and concerning if White lit up the scoreboard and either beat the Bills or made it a close game.
Makes sense. Probably not a good idea to have Buffalo be the first defense to get a shot at him.rapsheet: Mike White to start Sunday

He’s good at running the offense. He doesn’t have accuracy deep or at least we haven’t seen it.So does anyone think Mike White is actually any good? (genuine question(
I get the jokes and hype but did the Jets actually find something, or has he played like 7 quarters and this is just a fun distraction?
Who knows, but I’m getting major “Linsanity” vibes. It is odd (as a Pats fan) to kind of be rooting for him. I guess my favorite scenario he wins the job, kicks ass for the rest of the year vs. the East, and that somehow also causes team drama / media turmoil.
You answered your own question. The reason to root for him is to throw even a minor monkey-wrench into Wilson's progress. Luckiestman is right that, at best, it's likely to be a short-lived speed bump ... but we can take what we can getIt is odd (as a Pats fan) to kind of be rooting for him.
