Would have preferred the roster spot go to one of the P-Bruins kids; Caron looked like a serious liability in the playoffs.

Hey, Caron had more playoff goals than David Krejci and Brad Marchand combined!

In seriousness though, it's not like this is some sort of albatross. He can easily be waived or traded if they needed to clear a spot. He's roster fodder. Not much harm. He's been in the system, so if they needed a guy for spot duty in the bottom 6 he can fill in.

He's valuable as the 13th forward at that number. He won't be accumulating bonus money that will go on next years' cap and the organization isn't worried about his development being hurt by him not playing games. It's a good deal for the team. It sucks that a first round pick turned into cheap roster fodder but that's a story for another thread.

Good points; it is a reasonable deal for what he brings.  And, the guys drafted behind Caron haven't exactly been tearing up the league either, with the exception perhaps of O'Reilly (and, of course, one Reilly Smith).

I bitch about Caron as much as the next guy. Sometimes he looks asleep out there. At the end of the day, it's good to see that Chiarelli is not overreacting to not making the finals and signing these younger guys(Caron, Bartkowski) to sensible deals. They could improve, and if they don't no big deal.
