He had reportedly already rejected that offer a long time ago so I'm not sure how much it really matters.

Not a good sign he's still hospitalized after 48 hours--missing preseason? Florio points out that even after he signs, he doesn't get his ~$1 M/game until he's activated from non-football injury list.

Well, it matters for him, if offers he considers insults are now being retracted. He potentially cost himself like 30-50 million bucks, depending on how much it ends up affecting him on the field.

We still don't know how many fingers?  Can we get a poll started?

I'd set the over-under at 2.5.

Too soon? His only crime is telling a bad joke.

He told a "200,000 people dying in an earthquake" joke in a thread dedicated to "dumbass football player (maybe) blows off his own fingers with a firecracker" jokes. If you don't know why people find the latter funny and the former tasteless, I don't know what to tell you.

We've needed to lighten up for about 2 months now.

The 'let's all get offended for the sake of getting offended' era is awesome!

If only he played with firecrackers back in 2011.

This weekend probably will be more consequential to Rory than to JPP.

Holy fuck people need to lighten up around here lately.
Holy fuck I have a ton of Haitian friends and that joke wasn't close to funny. Hundreds of thousands of innocent people died.

And given you have tried to get people deported for playing music loudly, I'm guessing you'd like people to lighten up because fuck immigrants, amirite?

There are a million jokes that can be made without mocking his ethnic background.

JPP is Haitian? I just thought 'structural issues' meant he had weak bones.

Like I said, it wasn't a very funny joke, but why are people here up in arms? If you are offended by that joke, don't ever waste your money going to a comedy club. You'll want to storm out of the door in disgust after 2 minutes.

Edit: the "I don't know what to tell you" line is way overused around here. It's the ultimate "your opinion is wrong and mine is right just because" cop out.

Sorry, carry on with your racism.

Racism?

People really do need to lighten up. It was a dumb joke. The only crime is that it wasn't that funny.

edit - and the inconsistency of the outrage is kind of funny. People literally celebrate the anniversary of the death of Thurmon Munson (and Cory Lidle) and mock NYC for trying to commemorate the memories of Sept 11th on Facebook but a Haitian joke is over the line?

You're offended by the joke. It happens. Best bet is to move on. Considering you've been a shit stirrer on this site for a decade, I think it's ironic you think you're exempt from reading anything that might offend you.

I think the Thurmon Munson and Cory Lidle jokes are in poor taste too.

I'm outraged at the outrage over the outrage.

And looking forward to toasting JPP's fingers at the next Thurman Munson BBQ.

Oh, and if this is a net negative for the NY Football Giants, good!

Stop looking for something that isn't there. It was a joke about the general state of Haitian infrastructure. Sorry my micro aggression disturbed you. Didn't realize this was a designated safe speech thread.
While I find your racist humor unfunny, it should be noted that your racist humor has not been censored or otherwise removed. It is important that the community have discussions of what is and is not appropriate and that requires not just an object to discuss - your racist joke - but also the reactions of the audience to your racial joke. This way, we as a community get to decide standards for how members are expected to comport themselves in the future.

What is not helpful is your cowardly and sniveling response to the criticism of your fellow members. Your attempt to frame those who don't prefer your brand of racist humor as intolerant is disingenuous. If you're gonna make racist Haitian jokes, you should be willing to take criticism for them. If not, you suck, in more ways than just being a guy who tells racist jokes.

No thread is a "designated safe speech" thread but we do have published community standards and nearly 20 years of members deciding what they want in their forums. The people, here, thought your racist joke sucked. For several different reasons. Yet, you choose to reply with the monumentally unfunny "PC police" crap and double down with the notion that you - the racist joke teller - are actually the aggrieved party.

Nope. You don't get to play it this way. You have every right to make your unfunny racist jokes and members have every right to call you a suck poster and/or dumbass in response.

This is not grade school and I don't care if you think the people who think your racist
Jokes wee unfunny are being mean to you. LOL BOO HOO, asshole. Grow the fuck up. If you want to play in the racist jokes end if the pool, toughen up and don't come crying for the protection from the PC police you criticize and invited. You fucking suck.

People need to stop pointing fingers at other posters for being all thumbs when it comes to cultural sensitivity in this thread.

Can we all pinkie-swear to give the serious stuff the middle finger?  Thumbs up?

EDIT: Soxfan121 points out one thing: people need to start pointing fingers back at themselves instead of sticking their fingers in their ears about unfunny jokes.  You're gonna have to knuckle under.

Agreed. Telling a Lidle joke is akin to being a Yankee pitcher and flying a plane into an apartment complex and dying on impact.

Wait, making jokes about Haiti's infrastructure is now racist?  Insensitive I get.  Not funny I get.  But racist?  Based on what?

Racist: Black people are lazy.

Racist: Haitian people are stupid because they're black.

Not racist: The country of Haiti has poor infrastructure.

What am I missing here?  The racist label is being thrown around way too loosely.

Yeah.  It's about as racist as making a tornado joke about Joplin or Tuscaloosa.  Making an unfunny, insensitive infrastructure joke about a country that has shit infrastructure is not racist.

I'm allowed to say it because I'm a race.  You, on the other hand, also can say it.  So carry on.

Fair enough. For whatever reason I'm reminded of people (usually rednecks) who say "I'm not a racial person" when they mean "racist"...that always drives me nuts. But that's only because I hate cracker-ass crackers.

No kidding --  the sheer stupidity of people who have no idea what racism is, yet accuse others of it, is remarkable. Logic 101 fail.
