Let's say BB stays on until he retires. What does that mean for the franchise?

I don’t know too much about football, but yeah I’d do that for Jefferson. Is that a lot! Figured he’d cost more.
He might cost more? That was what it cost to get Hill from the Chiefs. JJ might be 2 first rounders. I don't know.

Justin Herbert is having his worst season as a pro, not coincidentally because Keenan Allen missed 7 games and Mike Williams missed 4 games. They've played together basically 3 times all season. Those 3 games are half of the 6 all season where Herbert had a 100 passer rating.
Meanwhile, Patrick Mahomes is performing better than last year and at his career average while a top 5 WR was removed from his team.

David Carrs numbers have slipped since adding a top 5 WR in Davante Adams.

And let's not pretend Herbert has shit the bed this season. Has he been otherworldly? No. But his numbers have still been top 10 this season.

I don't think anyone is arguing that talent doesnt matters at WR. I do find it ironic that, after spending decades winning SBs without a top outside threat, THATS the thing to fix this offense.

David Carr has been a total non-factor

Kerry Byrne's take on this years ago (Cold Hard Football Facts) was that the elite receiver was the shiny hood ornament on the luxury car. Nice to have if you actually have a luxury car, not so great if you are driving a Camry...

Who said "that's" the thing to fix the offense? I think I've pretty clear all along that is #3 on things that need to be fixed, but I have no faith we're changing the coaching staff, and without a change in the coaching staff, I've got no faith that Matt Patricia can fix or coach an offensive line.

That leaves skill position players, and Mac Jones is being hung out to dry on that front too.

Mac Jones is not Patrick Mahomes, he's not Josh Allen and he's not Herbert. I think we all know that. But Josh Allen wasn't Josh Allen in his 2nd year without Diggs. Tua wasn't Tua in his 2nd year without Hill. Hurts wasn't Hurts in his 2nd year without Brown. Geno Smith wasn't Geno before he got Metcalf and Lockett. Guys like that make QB's look better. We don't even have our #1 and #2 running backs, never mind receiving options, and people want to blame Mac for well, everything that is wrong with the offense.

Derrick Carr has been overrated in the NFL for about a decade, IMO. That said, Adams can only do so much. Waller has been hurt all year, and he's left with the aging corpse of Hunter Renfroe/Mack Hollins and Foster Moreau. Carr isn't good, but the rest of that receiving corps when you eliminate Waller is worse than what we have in New England. If Carr was the Pats QB, I believe we are worse than 7-6. Although I think we may be overstating our chances of beating them today.

That sequence from inside the 2 was coaching malpractice all around. I’ve had enough.
It’s beyond embarrassing. BB doesn’t get any benefit of the doubt. He surrounded himself with idiots on the coaching staff of mostly inexperienced unqualified people.

Or experienced people who have failed miserably.

The Patrica decision will never make sense to me.

I'm not convinced that BB has lost his ability to coach. This is 3D chess, he's figured out how to tank without making it look like tanking. Don't hire an OC, recognize your QB isn't great and stick with him.

This is brilliant.

Lol. That is the only alternative that makes sense other than that the Patriots have become a poorly coached team. There is no pressure so it's not the OL in this game, it's just inept decisions and mindless lack of execution - over and over and over.

They need an OL Coach and a proper OC.

Not sure if Belichick has lost his fastball or if he just hired a bunch of guys who never had one to begin with.

It is so depressing. Week after week the exact same issues. They finally look like they solve some red zone issues and then that sequence happens.
The Raiders defense was 0-14 in preventing TDs this season on first-and-goal situations inside the 5.

Fire the whole team and staff into the sun. Just dumb fuck football. We used to watch teams beat themselves now they beat themselves.

Truly one of the worst things that have happened to the Pats since 2000. And that's saying something because there were SB losses there.

But that is embarrassing, dumb, stupid, idiotic, and nonsensical. It is certainly the worst loss by the team in the last 22 years. That play just takes the cake.

The Pays just ruined their playoff chances on the stupidest play in franchise history. And it’s on the coaching.
That was one of the worst plays in league history. I don't know what it will be called, but it leaves recent disasters like the butt fumble and that indy fake punt in the dust, even before considering that it ended the game and likely the Pats season.

Updated thread title.

This team has none of the discipline and situational awareness that charazterizes all previous BB coached teams.

We can lay a lot of blame on players, on coaches, etc., but BB is the guy who chose not to hire a real offensive coordinator or develop one. He's the guy who signs the players.

As great as he is, he's 70, and he's past his prime.

It happens to everyone.

If you want to keep him around, the question you need to ask is "can he rebuild this team into a contender in whatever time he has left as a coach?"

I think the answer is no.

It’s absolutely time to move on from Belichick and find the next going good offensive coach. I’m done with him.

just no reason to watch any more games that have Patricia in them. He's ridiculously bad.

It isn't hyperbole to say this is the worst coached team in the NFL, well maybe the Colts will give them a run for their money but the list is very short.

Patricia on the sidelines, clapping after the first lateral.

SO MANY QUESTIONS. How do you think laterals are going to work?

And as usual, the Pats have something unfortunate go against them (the tying TD call which was clearly out of bounds) and compound things by completely imploding. They can’t stand the slightest bit of adversity. That is also on coaching.

So I have not been in the camp of BB being a problem. But now I’ll ask things this way - what’s the upside to keeping him for a 2-3 year final run given what we have seen post-Brady?

Meyers throwing to Mac can't possible be what they coached. I'd love to hear what they called.

Edit: I mean I don't think they coach laterals like that...

You people are nuts.
They are a poorly coached team in all facets of the game. Bill used to hold guys accountable, now he coddles and makes excuses. When you do that for two years you get results like the shitshow that was todays ending. He’s clearly past it at this point and I’ve been a huuuuge Bill guy.
