Very good question. For the past several weeks I've been of the mind that he wanted out of Oakland. I think he was so excited to get out of Pittsburgh that he signed on the dotted line but when he walked into Oakland and saw firsthand what a trainwreck it was, he knew that BEST CASE, he was going to be the star on a dying franchise, so he started working his way out of town with cryo-gate, helmetgate, whatever he can think of. Now he's got a chunk of change in a first class organization with a chance to win a ring.
This may be the first and last appropriate time LGB gets put on the same pedestal as AB.

As SSF notes, Brown still needs to prove he is a company man and the reality is that there are legitimate questions as to whether he can do this. He still may not play a snap for the Patriots or in the NFL this coming season.
That said, even after ~ 20 years of success, I still cannot believe that the New England Patriots, who were the poster child for a mismanaged NFL franchise in the late 80s and early 90s, is now the Evil Empire for professional football. For those who weren't around back then, what has transpired is mind-boggling. They weren't just a team during a down cycle - they were the team that other fanbases - even those who rooted for poor teams themselves - laughed at to feel better about their own team's misfortune. I simply cannot stress how much things have changed for the franchise since Kraft bought them.
