Henry, Stephenson, and Bourne were all players Mac could lean on earlier this season that were out yesterday for Zappe.

And all he did was thread several passes several times to the corpses of Mike Gesicki and DeVante Parker.

IN Denver. A historically tough place to play.

No more absurd excuses for Mac. The book’s closed. He was an awful draft pick and he’s not an NFL starting quarterback. The only question remaining is whether he’s a serviceable backup NFL quarterback.

Serviceable backups can’t be turnover machines. I think he’ll get a couple of camp invites after whoever the Patriots trade a conditional 7th in 2025 him to cut him after next season when his rookie deal is up, but I doubt he’ll make anyone’s 53 beyond 2024.

Mac broke at some point. He. Might be a serviceable backup maybe even a good one elsewhere. He needs a new start.

most backups are turnover machines though. That’s why they’re backups and not mid/bottom tier starters

The only thing that separates a “bottom tier” starter and a backup is that the starter is less prone to back breaking mistakes. I’d actually go as far to say that the 25th-50th best QB’s in the league are all pretty comparable in arm talent and the only thing separating them is their ability to limit turnovers.

There are very few serviceable backups who don’t have issues with turnovers because those guys are typically starters.

Nick Mullens is a perfect example. Over 400 passing yards, missiles all over the field, some incredible throws. He took more downfield shots yesterday than most teams do in 6 games. And completed a bunch of them.

But he had 4 brutal and horrendous INTs that cost his team the game.

Mac being replaced by Zappe is similar to Jim Plunkett being replaced by Steve Grogan. Both Zappe and Grogan are more mobile. History repeating itself.

Yes, it’s very similar to the time we replaced one QB who would win two Super Bowls with a QB who would only make it to one.
