'23 Sox pretty much what you'd expect so far: good offense, mortally leaky pitching. Hopefully we'll see the latter get significantly improved as guys come off the DL. Oh well. Take the off day and let's win a couple this weekend.

I usually understand Cora's management style: Kluber stank, so save your better relief pitchers for the next game. But today, it cost the game, along with Devers' underperformance. I didn't see every minute of this game, so perhaps I'm wrong, but it seems to me much too early in the game to go to your "garbage time" pitchers.

Surprised by a 10-9 score in this weather. Perhaps the pitchers did not have a good feel for the ball.

Sale needs to be good on Saturday because Jesus Christ on a cracker that was painful to watch.

Pitching depth should ultimately build as guys get healthy and better arms work their way up from the minors.

Brasier at least has a track record of some success but recent history is not kind to him or Ort and both are clear roster churn candidates.

Excited by the bats grinding it out. It will be really great for the team and org as a whole if Yoshida is a star.

That's a rough second guess, I think. If Kluber gets through five, I think you could argue for using some of your better relievers to try to stay in the game, but there aren't enough of them to get you from the fourth to the end of the game. I think maybe there's a case to be made for going to Winckowski in the 5th instead of the 8th since he's presumably your long guy, but I think that's about it.

Yes, but your suggestion sounds better, and is definitely a different approach.

I only listened to this game - frankly as I was drifting in and out of sleep while avoiding cycling out in the cold pre-dawn rain - but stolen bases is going to be a big issue for the Sox this year.

Was about to depart the park at 10-4. Freezing. But I said screw it. Then the sun hit my section. Then the team started fighting back. (Huge argument between Martin and the umpire at the end of the 8th btw. Fenway scoreboard did a horrid job with the count).

My takeaway from this game is the bottom of the pen could use an upgrade. And that Baltimore’s hitters had an effective approach to Kluber. And that Baltimore’s defense is really bad.

Well, I had to go away when it was 8-2, and 10-9 was a pretty good final based on where I thought the game was headed. Get 'em next time.

I gotta say, so many starting pitchers didn't make it out of the fourth inning today: de Grom, Nola, Mikolas, Manoah, Greene. Kluber was not alone. That makes me feel a teensy bit better.

Giving up nine BB and 15 hits... last year's team was hobbled by runs allowed, and my fear is that not much has changed.

Based on a very small sample size, my impression is the for a pitcher who is having some control issues, the pitch clock tends to make it worse. It just seemed to snowball today.

I think guys who can't find the plate, maybe need some time to stomp around the plate and throw the rosin bag and whatever. But maybe when they have to get right back up on the horse it can be difficult to find the spots.

Just a thought and a thing I think I'll watch more.

I’d guess Winchowski will be used like that if it’s closer, say 2 runs down after 4? 5? Starter is gassed/pulled/maxed out….If it’s looking like a blowout (borderline as it was today)- then it’s the garbage people. Hopefully those guys will be replaced soon j

Another small sample concern is that the last 4 relievers out of the pen didn’t miss many bats. They combined to throw 90 pitches and only had 2 K’s.

Interesting angle that I hadn’t thought of. Not having that time to take a breath could have a real effect.

We saw one game against a decent-to-good offense on a very cold day. Very few of our better arms pitched. I don't think we should draw many conclusions.

The conclusion I draw is that yesterday sucked and I wish we were playing today to get the taste out of my mouth.

Wait can someone explain why they didn't just let him "Rehab" with the big club? He has to be better than their end of the pen options.
