They're killing the Pawsox' chance at a second Governor's Cup in three years.

They are certainly going to check all the boxes before they go out shopping this winter.

Or what Detts said.

Unless I'm miss counting 40 Man is full, so another move would have to be made to make room.  Calling up Herrera and immediately placing him on the 60 day DL would be an easy fix as he's out the year.  Or Victorino to the 60 Day DL.

They moved Victorino to the 60 day DL

Any chance Brian Johnson gets a start with the Pawsox? His last start was on the third.

This was the first thing I thought of as well. Right now they've only got Edwin Escobar, Henry Owens & Keith Couch, plus Chris Hernandez who's more of a long reliever and a less-than-ideal choice to start a playoff game.

Wonder if they are close to shutting RDLR down. He's thrown a lot of innings and hasn't been effective for awhile. Giving Barnes his starts isn't the worst idea.

Barnes will work long relief, per Farrell. But yeah, they may be getting ready to ramp down RDLR regardless.

Barnes will pitch multi-inning appearances out of pen. Would have had just 1 more GS w/PAW. Chance to get multi ML G's outweighed that.

Why wouldn't they start Barnes in the ML?
Pressure?

Go with a 6 man rotation if needed.

Edit: I must have missed the Ranaudo promotion, whoops. Thanks

Aren't they already doing that now with Buchholz, Kelly, Workman, Ranaudo, RDLR, and Webster?  Adding Barnes would make it a seven man rotation unless they remove someone.  As already mentioned, RDLR may be at the point of removal, but until they make that official, there really isn't room for Barnes in the rotation.

Current rotation is:
Buchholz
Kelly
Workman
RDLR
Webster
Ranaudo

They're already doing the six man thing.

Also, Barnes has picked it up on the back end of this season, but unless he suddenly discovers a new clearly ML level pitch he's quite possibly going to wind up in the bullpen anyhow.  Using him there in September would be a great try out to see how much his stuff can play up out of the 'pen.  I'd imagine the FO has a clear secondary agenda of Koji's replacement from one of the glut of mid-rotation starting prospects they've been trying out this season, including Barnes.

With each start they seem to be reducing RDLR pitch count. Yesterday it was 80 and the plan was for Wright to pitch those multiple innings. I expect Barnes to be the guy relieving RDLR in his next start.

Farrell said in pregame yesterday that they want to keep RDLR on a five day routine through the season, but with shorter outings.  Might seen Barnes piggyback a few games.
