He was the best they had as far as roaming reporting on gameday at New England and, lately, other stadiums. He would be the last person of that ilk I'd cut. I suppose he'll catch on at ESPN, which I hardly watch any more. Bummer.
The league itself prints money, but they probably treat NFL Network as a separate business that has to be profitable on a standalone basis. My impression is that they are pretty lousy at handling breaking news -- I feel like when I've checked NFL Network when a big story is happening, they've often been carrying canned content.
I suspect they're fine relying on other people's reporters to source whatever stories they're going to discuss on Good Morning Football or their evening shows.
The problem is that as each newspaper/network makes that decision, the number of reporters actually breaking news drops.

That's because a lot of the NFL network's schedule is repeats. GMF is live from 7 to 10am and then every day it is replayed from 10 to 1pm. So if breaking news happens at that time, they are off the air. In the afternoon, they also replay a game from the previous season from 3 to 6pm, too.
It's a lot of canned stuff and repeats.
The last time I can remember the NFL Network went live preempting canned content was when Tom Brady retired last year. And it took them 40 minutes to get on the air. So they are not a breaking news network.
Agreed. Which makes paying quality reporters pointless. Just hire young kids who work for cheap and look good standing outside a stadium and teeing up the next discussion on Good Morning Football by telling the audience whatever other reporters have said/written.
