2 MiL players back to Reds. One of them is said to be Keury Mella, a high upside pitcher in A ball. Giants paid steep price, I think.

Trade complete: Mike Leake for Keury Mella and Adam Duvall.

Mella is obviously a decent prospect but Duvall is essentially a soon-to-be-27 year old PCL slugger.  Leake is a guy who can give the Giants innings and consistent decent starts at the back of their battered rotation.  I think both sides did fairly well here.

I feel better about this deal now than when I heard about it last night. The Giants got him for a lottery ticket and a AAAA-guy. Leake doesn't miss a lot of bats so the Giants defense and the fact that he is out of the bandbox the Reds play in should help him. It wasn't the Hamels or Price I was hoping for but he is an improvement on what the Giants had.

Giants beat writer Alex Pavlovic said that Bobby Evans notified Tim Hudson before the deal was announced that Leake would be taking his spot in the rotation.

This seems like a steal for SF. I didn't think Mella had much high value anymore? Leake should pitch extremely well in SF.
This is what I got from MLBTR

Turning to the Reds’ side of the deal, Mella ranks first on MLB.com’s midseason list of Giants top prospects and second on Baseball America’s version of the same list. ESPN’s Keith Law tweets that he considered Mella the best arm in San Francisco’s system as well. MLB.com’s Jim Callis and Jonathan Mayo write that Mella has the best combo of stuff and pitchability of any arm in San Francisco’s system, making him a candidate to rise quickly through the minors. He’s 93-95 mph with his fastball regularly, touching 97 when needed, per their report, and has the potential for three average-or-better pitches. BA notes that a scout has likened his sinking fastball to a bowling ball, and that movement helps him limit homers. Still, some see the bullpen in Mella’s future, BA adds.

I'm don't follow the Giants farm system, so reading this and checking Mella's #s from this season led me to believe that Mella has quite a bit of value. Maybe I was wrong though?
