Caller: when he's on, Joba is the second best starter in the American League after Halliday
Mike: (hangs up) Good bye. What planet are you on?

I am kicking myself for not listening to Francesa today. Thanks for all the recaps - it's hilarious, especially the one above. Love delusional Yankee calls, since it give Mike a chance to do just that.

BTW, isn't it Fracesa with one s, not two as in the title of the thread?

The fawning is a little too much at times, but in all honesty he has had to deal with an incredible amount of injuries just to his pitching staff, not to mention the Adenhart tragedy. And yet they have roughly the same record as the Yankees.

They play the shitty A's and shitty Mariners.

Joba's ERA is 3.89. Which is like 26th.
Yeah, but it's like saying Daisuke had the 7th best ERA among starters in baseball last year. He did, but he walked a ton of guys, couldn't get into the 7th inning, etc... Joba and Daisuke last year are valuable, but ERA isn't telling much of a story there.

Joba reminds me of '06-'07 Lester. Too many walks, can't put guys away, can't pitch deep into games, but these guys can get themselves out of their jams pretty well, so they're not killing their teams. The difference is, Lester added velocity, and improved, Joba lost velocity and has regressed.

I'm not listening to the show, but from the post I quoted it sounds like Francessa said he had a 4 ERA and which is Top 50. That hardly an accurate statment.

He has been disappointing, trust me I know he is on my fantasy team his WHIP is a killer with all those walks, but he has been keeping the team in games (just two losses) it's not like he has been Wang bad or even Liriano or Nolasco bad.

Here comes the whiner line. Waah, the Sox are done with their west coast trips. Waah, the Sox don't have to play nine straight road interleague games. Waah, waah, waah.

Lol boo hoo

Is Fatso saying this or are the callers? I hardly think a series with the Mets classifies as a road series.

I don't know if you can find it online, but Artie Lange went on Russo's show and had a tremendous anti-Francessa rant when he believed Francessa had trashed him ("I saw him at the Knicks game, I wonder if they charged him for 3 seats") and then turned on Chris telling him he screamed like a lunatic. I couldn't breath I was laughing so hard. It was like everything I had been thinking about those 2 since I started listening to them. I wish Artie called WFAN 2 years ago.

Lange called back and apologized after, because Mike actually sort of complimented Artie, saying Buck's show sucked and that Artie was the only compelling thing about it.

Here's the YouTube of it. The same guy has 3 other clips available. The Francesa part starts around 2:40.

Ripping Tomko... not turning on A-Rod for partying with Kate Hudson

Yankees are and awful team and have been since arriving in Boston

Basically said the Yanks were disgraceful. I missed some of it, but it was very dismissive. Said they were worse than the Mets. The tone was one of disgust.

- City has two bad baseball teams...one has at least a plausible excuse (injuries), but the other is just bad.
- Red Sox series was clearly indicative of who the Yankees are - mismatched group that doesn't play well together, especially now that Damon and Teixeira are not carrying the offense and Cabrera has come down to earth
- Enough of Tomko - understand that Sabathia left early, but Tomko can't do the job...dreadful, overmatched.
- Ugly Yankee team, nothing likable about it - overpriced, old, misplaced, not fun to watch
- Shut down by mediocre Marlins team
- Who knows with Sabathia...no idea what his comments about 'not coming out if it's September' means...whole team is peculiar and not built to play in the NL parks because of shoddy defense
- Yankees simply not in the class of the Sox, despite what some 'clueless' callers think --- Sox 15 games over .500, done with West Coast, etc., while the Yanks owe their record to one good run
- Here comes Tampa Bay - every bit as capable of the Yanks of fighting for a wild card spot
- Sick of looking at this Yankee team...everyone made a big deal out of that run, but the Yankees have the same glaring holes as in past years.

Playing mostly against the no offense A's, the no offense Mariners and the Rangers. The whole team would be dead if they were in the AL East.

Annnnnnnnd I now see that other posters had already remarked about this same point.

Tampa's gonna make a run, fight Yankees for the wild card.
Sick of looking at this Yankees team. Same issues as recent years. No good at situational baseball. Only good against bad pitchers in the late innings.

Yankee calls when we return!

I've always thought that the Yankees have had a very lucky year. They beat some good teams, the Twins absolutely shat their pants in Yankee Stadium and blew a bunch of late leads. Castillo drops that ball and hell the Nats could have swept them if they played a few fly balls better.

Obviously you can do that with all teams, but it really feels like the Yankees are actually fortunate to be where they are.

Yea that's a pretty ridiculous statement, especially with his recent irrational fawning over the likes of Hunter Jones. Who exactly does Mike think we used in those trades to get the talent we have?

Yeah, that was an odd remark Mike tossed in while chatting with the last caller. Of course, Beckett is always very prominent in Mike's thinking.

This was odd, especially since Mike has emphasized the exact opposite in the past.

I think guys like Bay, Beckett, and Lowell factor into this statement pretty heavily.

Can someone please call in and inform Mike of A-Rod's "bone tired" comment.

I'm glad he's saying that whole situation made no sense.

Why would he defend A-Rod, though? It's not like he's in the bag for him like Jeter or Pettitte.

EDIT - He just said Youkilis is an 'interesting' player that doesn't have 'gaudy' stats...then he proceeds to state that he is leading the league in OBP and SLG. What?

This caller can't be real right? You can't be a Sox fan and want the MFYs to hang around "for the sake of the rivalry". WTF?

Yea, stats aren't Mike's strong suit. I've been wondering why Brett Tomko is still a major leaguer for a while now too. It makes no sense.

Labelled A-Rod as "dead wrong" if he asked out of the lineup from fatigue, and then went out for late-night clubbing. Big discussion of Heyman's article, and how messy it makes the whole Yankee operation look.

"I think there isn't any question Cashman's and Girardi's jobs should be on the line if they don't make the playoffs this year."
