Not here
I've always thought these bans should end with the death of the banned person.

I confess, this is partly because the thought of Reds fans wanting Rose dead might be coloring my perception.

I think any lifetime ban should be that. When the player dies, they're off the banned list. It's not called an eternity list.

What are the benefits of this decision?  Granted, it was a travesty back then.  But it's been over a 100 years.

People who go to the Hall of Fame can celebrate the things he accomplished?

The advocates for Rose in the Hall would eliminate one of the arguments against that happening once the more-deserving Jackson is in.

I imagine it would make him eligible for the Hall of Fame. An educated Veteran's Committee could then admit him. And somewhere Ted Williams will be smiling.

He won't qualify for the Hall, but while they are at it, could MLB also reconsider Buck Weaver?  I know he fought this ban all his life and so did his family (in as much as he had no active part in the fix but heard/knew it was going on).

Well, if it was more probable than not that he was generally aware of wrongdoing, that's all that matters nowadays.

Actually, "lifetime ban" is just media shorthand; the official name is the "permanently ineligible" list.

What a bunch of horseshit. Comiskey is the one that should have been banned along with the other players.

Too bad Ted isn't still alive because he would have publicly BBQ'd Manfred.

So they've had this response for more than a month and yesterday decided to issue a press release foreshadowing the announcement withe the clear implication being that there would be a change in status ... and the decision is "sorry, still banned?"

Nice con job Arlene.  Hope the publicity worked out for you.

Yeah, he may have hit .500 in that Series without taking the money.

Pretty funny that soxhop, who seems to pride himself on just passing along tweets with no context, took the bait and made the full jump to reinstatement in the threat title without any evidence to back it up.

I am open to Shoeless Joe revisionism if people can make a case for it, but to decide whether he should be reinstated would require an in-depth investigation that would likely produce a document as long as (but I hope more accurate than) the Wells Report.  The idea that the Commissioner would do this on a whim after minimal investigation should have seemed implausible from the beginning.

I don't really care about the reinstatement issue, but that comma after "Notwithstanding" warrants a lifetime ban for Manfred.
