VVD’s lack of energy and apparent effort would be horrifying if it wasn’t consistently producing the right result. I feel like I haven’t seen him but third gear since his return.

This is a solid team defeat on effort. Good on West Ham for taking full advantage. Matip is another moving at half speed all game.

I don’t know what to make of this team sometimes. All the talent required for title runs, but a seeming lack of commitment, energy, and impetus at times. It’s frustrating to watch.

Was West Ham playing Sweet Caroline before the coverage cut away from the stadium, and if so was that to troll John Henry?

Hats off to David Moyes, whose career was left for dead and was laughed at around these parts when he was name was floated for the USMNT and MLS. Happy for him.

This Liverpool squad defends like the pre-VVD teams. That needs to be fixed.

Now that Crystal Palace have started figure out how to finish off games, they have passed their affliction on over to Union Berlin. Union just dropped points to Köln, allowing a late Antony Modeste header to have it end 2-2. It's always something. Union could have gone 4th, their best ever placing in the Bundesliga...but they could not hold on to it and are now all the way down to 8th.

I just saw Tosun's name listed among Everton's bench players for this match. I haven't been able to pay much attention yet this season, so I didn't know his loan spell had ended. And now I don't know which feeling is worse: the realization that Everton simply can't get rid of these players, or the realization that I was actually relieved to have him there as an alternative to Rondon.
Both/and

They should have ponied up for Maxamino.

I'm also stunned by the Moyes turnaround. TBH, in retrospect it seems like the United stint was more of just a mismatch than being overmatched. Moyes is a consummate professional manager, but not one that's going to thrive if being encouraged to play attacking free-flowing football. But watching yesterday, it was impressive how compact and organized WHU was. I'm excited to see WHU-MANC.

Also time has shown that a) that United team had a lot of past-prime talent that was headed for a fall regardless, and b) it's not like all the subsequent United managers have done so much better than Moyes did, despite having more prime-age talent to work with.
