During the Celtics-Grizzlies talks, I'm told Boston offered two second-round picks and Guerschon Yabusele for Tyreke Evans. It doesn't appear they agreed to terms before the deadline.
Maybe we misunderstood. He is the French Nick Green.Speaks volumes about what they think they have in Yabusele, if true.
According to NBC Sports Boston, the Celtics discussed trading Marcus Smart with the Knicks and Nuggets but Ainge would not come off the demand for a first round pick.During the Celtics-Grizzlies talks, I'm told Boston offered two second-round picks and Guerschon Yabusele for Tyreke Evans. Wow, I get that teams sometimes just get fixated on quality v quantity, but that seems like a more than fair offer from DA...

Winning! So Memphis sat Evans for 2 weeks leading up to the deadline and then didn't trade him
Yeah, they didn't exactly do anything to increase his market value. And Ainge was never to going overpay for a rental. So Memphis sat Evans for 2 weeks leading up to the deadline and then didn't trade him
LOL. Ainge values him so much that he tried to get rid of him. Love the spin. The fact that he wouldn't move him for a 2nd rounder only shows that he wasn't desperate to dump him.Shams Charania @ShamsCharania 7s8 seconds ago
Sources: Boston has made no deals, standing pat at the deadline and keeping guard Marcus Smart. Celtics value Smart tremendously -- showed it in talks with other teams.
Yes, on the other hand, the free agent market looks like a disaster for mid-tier players such as Evans and Smart. It makes sense to try to drive up the trade price for those players because they may not have too many options in excess of the mid-level exception (see Williams, Lou).Wow, I get that teams sometimes just get fixated on quality v quantity, but that seems like a more than fair offer from DA...
Nobody is paying the 1st round price for rentals or even marginal players as they have in the past. Even Elfrid Payton was dumped for a 2nd.Yeah, they didn't exactly do anything to increase his market value. And Ainge was never to going overpay for a rental.
Let's sign Evans with our MLE this offseasonYes, on the other hand, the free agent market looks like a disaster for mid-tier players such as Evans and Smart. How? It's essentially 0 value in return for Memphis. 2nd round picks are easily acquired and Yabu is a big nothing.Wow, I get that teams sometimes just get fixated on quality v quantity, but that seems like a more than fair offer from DA...
It's 2 seconds and a cost controlled player with upside. That's far more than what they'll get when a playoff team offers Reke the MLE and he jumps on it.How? It's essentially 0 value in return for Memphis. 2nd round picks are easily acquired and Yabu is a big nothing.
Talk about misreading the market. Our future pick is looking very nice right about now.If true, GJGE Memphis.
The issue is that he doesn’t think they need to rebuild, in which case yes he was acting rationally, but on flawed logic. Those offers both suck and will likely amount to nothing, what’s the big deal with rejecting them and trying to overpay him to stay while they rebuild?
Wallace is losing his grip because he won't swap Tyreke for Yabusele, who has in two years shown that he can't play in the league? That's a little bit of a stretch don't ya think. The Gasol situation is 100% out of his hands as Pera has said that he is never trading Gasol.Wallace is losing his grip. He had a good run with Gasol and Conley but it’s fading fast and it seems he’s choosing not to deal with it with anything approaching rationality.
I’m guessing he saw the Lou Williams numbers and was suddenly giddy over the possibility of keeping Evans on a bargain and running it back with this sinking ship.
Right, this bed was made when the Parsons signing went belly up. The team is capped out, old, injured, and bad. Try anything rather than running it back. There was zero advantage in keeping Reke. All they can offer is the MLE, same as if they trade him. He hurts the pick this year. You also just sat him out for 2 weeks in preparation to trade him. Even if you don't use the 2nds they are assets, as seen by the trades over the last day or two.
It makes zero sense to keep him.
That's absolutely fine. Denver offered expiring contracts and 2 2nd's, what do you make of Memphis turning that deal down?Yabu has a guarantee for the next two years. So if you think he’s a bust (which Memphis does, apparently), he has negative value.
You keep saying 2yrs with Yabusele. He played overseas last season and started his rookie contract this season. He's played half a season.Wallace is losing his grip because he won't swap Tyreke for Yabusele, who has in two years shown that he can't play in the league? We have seen him for two years no matter how you spin it. He was in our summer league prior to going overseas where we have seen plenty of tape on him (1st year as a professional) and hasn't improved while arguably regressing as a 22-year old this season (2nd year). His trade value is zero. You keep saying 2yrs with Yabusele. He played overseas last season and started his rookie contract this season. He's played half a season.
I get you don't like him, but there is no reason to push up his timeline.
You could make a pretty badass #40-60 all-star team — Dragic, Ginobili, Millsap, Jokic, Marc Gasol, 6th man IT — but basically agreed.I hate when people say "2nd round pick" as if they are all equal. If that pick is in the low to mid 30s? Great, those have a ton of value as you can still find a quality player in that range and the contract costs are minimal. After that the picks are essentially worthless and they get tossed around for cash on draft night.
Guys in the 40-60 range rarely even make rosters, let alone contribute. Those who do are major outliers.
Not trying to spin anything, but two years is factually incorrect. 2 years ago he hadn't even been drafted. He's been in the NBA for half a season. James Young on the other hand had been in the NBA for 3 seasons before the Celtics lost their patience. We have seen him for two years no matter how you spin it. He was in our summer league prior to going overseas where we have seen plenty of tape on him (1st year as a professional) and hasn't improved while arguably regressing as a 22-year old this season (2nd year). Sacramento just waived Papagiannis, who was selected 3 slots above him at 13. You don't have to have a guy for 4 years do make a decision on him if he isn't showing you anything. Otherwise we'd still have James Young here.
We’ll help save them from further embarrassment next year.Kings are waiving Papagiannis, and this after they traded Malachi Richardson for Bruno Caboc-lol, who they'll waive. Sunk costs are sunk costs, but having to dump two first rounders a year and a half after drafting them is so very Sactown.
Apparently he may actually return this season, but I hope the forgotten man Porter Jr goes back to school for another season. We’ll help save them from further embarrassment next year.
