Someone has to have the matching expiring to send to them though. I am sure there is real possibility, but still wouldn't surprise me if a deal can't be reached and he is just bought out. Problem is probably gets more regular minutes on some other contender
Good point. MIN doesn't look to have the salaries either.

Spotrac trade machine says that SAC could do it by sending Duarte and Kessler Edwards out, but who knows what SAC is going to do.

As an expiring, the 'Zards should be able to get at least one 2nd for him and should do it. I don't really see him being bought out.
With the complexity of taking on a matching salary I wouldn’t be so sure that Delon isn’t a buyout guy. While he may have a market it will be at a lower priority and he’s not a guy you’re going to go out of your way to get as a backup to Pritchard. He’s not very good but can be a serviceable option to PP in certain second unit matchups.

I would have never guessed that PJ Brown played more playoff minutes than Cassell, Powe, or Eddie House.
I was shocked as well. I'm guessing it was to keep KG fresh, combined with Perk missing one game (too many aggregate T's IIRC).

All that said, he and Big Baby were the only two Celtics for that postseason with negative On-off.

Honestly, I thought we'd see more movement with CBA getting restrictive this summer

Getting a discounted buyout may be more attractive than a matching salary & a 2nd.
Who knows what the Wizards are thinking?
I'm pretty skeptical of their mgmt, thought they handled the KP situation poorly (massively to the Celtics' benefit  )

Ha, yes! Kyle Anderson and Delon have always been bench favs from the past

At this point, DW is a buyout guy for the Celtics if the Wizards can't move him by the trade deadline.
Also a potential min. vet guy this summer. He is still efficient in short minutes.
You've brought up the former so often that they should change your tag to "Slow-Mohogan".

Probably why paying through the nose for Gobert never made any sense to me.

Naz Reid, KAT, Kyle Anderson, and just drafted Walker Kessler...You know what this team needs?

Let's hand over every draft asset not nailed down for a 30-year-old max Center who can't shoot (albeit a defensive savant)

The Wolves seem happy with Rudy, so that's what matters.

From Jake Fischer

Elsewhere atop the Eastern Conference, Boston has been weighing various options who could deepen the Celtics’ bench, according to league sources. Boston will likely be limited to adding pieces through its $6.25 million traded-player exception with which the Celtics could bring on a veteran target such as Otto Porter Jr., sources said. Another name on Boston’s radar: Nets guard Lonnie Walker, who’s generated a wealth of interest from playoff teams while playing well on a minimum contract, sources said.

Duarte has a 6 million dollar salary next year. Unsure if WAS wants to take back anything in a Wright deal
They should if they can get any asset at all for Wright. They need any asset they can get, and are in no danger of paying the luxury tax next year with or without Duarte at 6M.

I think there will still be a lot of action before the deadline. Already having Harden, Anunoby, Siakam and Rozier moved is a pretty big start.

There will surely still be a bunch of tax ducking moves(including by the Celtics), and some of the teams that are going to be deep in the tax next year should be making aggregation deals.

Whether there are still more big deals will depend on whether the non-contenders still in the play-in range want to cut bait or go hard for the 9-10 seeds (Atlanta, Brooklyn, Chicago, Utah)

Could lose Philly as a big buyer as well with Embiid status in doubt.

I mean Walker Kessler was a recently drafted nobody. Not one person thought he would have a rookie year like he did. Naz Reid was fine, but he was playing 15 minutes a game and hadn't shown anything that would make you think he was anything but a 15 minute a night backup. KAT was great, but their biggest need was a defensive presence in the middle. Kyle Anderson was signed after the Rudy Gobert trade.

The Wolves way overpaid. No need to make up other reasons why it may have been a bad move though

Agreed, I had no idea that Walker Kessler would have a great year rookie year, not sure I said that.

Everyone thought it was an odd fit at the time (feel free to go dredge up old posts). They already had an All-Star Center in KAT, a young 5 on the rise in Naz Reid, #22 Kessler, & signed Kyle Anderson the day after FA opened up

They have the best-rated defense in the NBA, so Rudy has delivered what they wanted. Unfortunately, they have the 18th-rated offense, even with Kat/AntMan. Tough to operate with the lane clogged. The WC is brutal, but they could threaten the All-Time best Wolves team ever (58 wins) which is pretty good.

Yes on KAT
On the rise was Naz was sort of a thing. He showed flashes for sure
Kessler at 22 was considered a project at best
Slo-Mo signed after the Gobert trade. It was probably already agreed upon before the trade - but either way, Slo-Mo is good, but I don't think him being on your team should really sway your decision to go after someone like Gobert.

And again - it was a ridiculous overpay. Like ridiculous.

Drummond has never played for a particularly good team and has been very available for a number of years now.

I've always been kind of intrigued by his massive individual rebounding rate. Even this year he is averaging 8.3 rpg, which would be tied with Tatum for the team lead, and Drummond is only averaging 15 mpg. He is averaging 19 rebounds per 36 minutes. He just recently became the 43rd player in NBA history to record over 10,000 rebounds, and if he played in an era that didn't make him a defensive liability (so any era up until 10 years ago) he'd probably be viewed as one of the greatest rebounders in NBA history.
Got the start last night vs. Minny and he dominated the likes of Rudy, Naz Reid and KAT on the boards. Also had 4 blocks. He truly is special at that one thing.

C’s have the best rebounding rate in the league but are only 14th in ORPG. As was pointed out up thread, Drummond could be a real weapon in the playoffs vs. some of the top rebounders (Jokic, Giannis, and yes, Gobert).

True that his permanent home at the dunker spot could mess with the C’s offence. But I was struck by how well it suited DeRozan’s game (drive to a short jumper/turnaround). Brown and Tatum have that in their bag too.

Can an NBA team strike a deal with a EuroLeague to "trade" for a player? Serge Ibaka is currently starting C for Bayern Munich.
One aspect of international buyouts that work in our favor is that up to the excluded IPP amount, which this year is $825k, a buyout does not count against the cap. And any amounts over that will come out of a player's salary (all of which is in the cap, but still gives us wiggle room). So if we were to sign Ibaka to a vet-min deal, we could offer Bayern a buyout in the low 7 figures and it would probably work for all parties.

Whether we think Ibaka could actually help the Celtics this year is another matter. Bayern is in the EuroLeague, but is pretty low in the table overall, I haven't seen any film of them but Ibaka is 34, hard to imagine he'd be higher-impact than Griffin was last year. I have no opinion on whether he's in fact toast or not. I was more interested in the concept, of a vet playing at a EuroLeague level who could maybe help us this year. If it's not Ibaka, it could in theory be someone else. And because this wouldn't be a trade, I think we can add a player this way up to March 1st, per CBA FAQ #64, and still roster him for the playoffs.

(sidenote: Bayern Munich currently employs an american named Devin Booker on its roster. He's Trevor Booker's brother. Made me do a double take.)

Lowe said multiple teams interested in him. Wing / Defense / Shooter / good contract - why not (though Danny I'm sure will be trying to extract every ounce of value from him)? https://www.slcdunk.com/2024/2/6/24064219/nba-trade-rumors-multiple-teams-interested-in-simone-fontecchio.
I'm surprised we haven't heard more Kris Dunn rumors?

He was playing a pretty limited role (but is now starting) with Utah. Dirt cheap contract. His ball handling and point-of-attack defense from the bench could be helpful. 44/102 from 3 the last two seasons

A PP/Dunn situational platoon might be of interest to Brad. @HomeRunBaker get on it

Porter makes 6 million dollars and has played less than 200 minutes this year. No chance BOS takes on that contract. He has gotta be a buyout option at best
The primary reason you'd be interested in Porter would have been earlier in the year to make that TPE into an aggregateable contract, seems to me. There's not enough time left to do that by deadline (as I recall, though haven't confirmed, there's a waiting period before you can trade a player again in that situation). If that's true, had they gotten Porter soon enough, you could have stapled him to Stevens/Svi/etc. and get up to the $11 mil kind of range.

As a player, I agree he's a buyout-level guy only.

Yeah, I imagine the interest is only to try and maybe get into the Kelly Olynyk range. But that's a lot of moving parts to get across the finish line in 24 hours or so

Any player traded into an exception you have to wait two months

Yeah, that's why they'd have to have done it earlier...but I can imgine that reasoning could sit behind reporting on interest in him as they may have reached out and asked if Toronto would take a fake second and some salary relief for Porter in December when timing would have fit.

I mean - I guess it is conceivable they actually think he might be a useful player, and they have TPE for him. I just think given how little he's played it's not likely they'd do that. But he is a proven two-way wing and there's only so many of those they can get

edit: I hadn't realized how much he's been hurt---I was thinking primarily of him in the GS incarnation where he played 63 games and 22 min/game in 21-22.

But since 2019 season, he's only played a total of 65 games beyond those GS games. Only a total of 23 games the last two years. Hasn't played since Dec 30th this year. He's gotta be a buyout guy at this point.

I kind of liked him as a depth wing, and that cost isn't too high - I beleive Detroit has a second which is better of Memphis/Washington so this is a single 'good' second.

Likely says roughly what market is for the Konchar/Walker type of player

That's a really good 2nd; would have been hard to top that and stay at a reasonable price.

Yeah, Celts have Chi/NOP and Dallas 2nds. None as good as Washington 2nd. Easty to imagine that was the difference.

Also suggests that's the market for Konchar/Walker to me - pretty good case Fontecchio is better than either.

We'll see- deadline deals as much about supply/demand as theoretical value

POBOBS is already on it: https://www.celticsblog.com/2024/2/7/24064741/report-boston-celtics-utah-jazz-kicked-the-tires-potential-trade-for-kris-dunn-and-simone-fontecchio

Dunn's On/Off numbers weren't good last year: ORtg -3.4 when he was on the court compare to off while DRtg was +1.1. The numbers are much better this year: ORtg 124.4 on v 114.0 off (+10.4) and DRtg 117.3 on v 119.8 off (-2.5).

Ha, thanks.

Yea, those two make sense. Wonder if the cost is PP? I hope Brad will use 2nds/Walsh/JDD before Pritchard

IMO Dunn didn't play enough minutes (568) to be too concerned about On/Off or +/-.
He also didn't start playing until Utah had let go of the rope, so winning basketball wasn't probably emphasized

Monte Morris has been terrible this year. Sure hope MIN isn't trading Slo-Mo for him. Tough to make the money work without including him though

Ahh I like this for Minny now

Timberwolves are sending Shake Milton, Troy Brown Jr. and one second-round pick to Detroit for Monte Morris, sources said.
