Pitt defense actually is pretty good. Offense is really good too but the biggest flaw is Ben does dumb shit like that several times a game and especially on the road
He's also good for a fumble at some point tonight.

When thinking about who BB would rather face in the playoffs, I think all you need to do is look to the Patriots last however many playoff losses. When the Pats lose, they don't lose because their opponents offenses lit them up, they lose because Brady and the offense don't have their usual game, typically because they run into a defense that can get pressure on Brady up the middle. The losses to the Giants, Denver, etc., weren't on our defense, they were on our offense.

I believe BB would rather face Pitt than KC, because KC does have the players to scheme a front four that can get pressure on Brady, just like Houston did. I don't think the old Man, James Harrison, and his fellow d lineman for Pitt can do that. While I'm certainly more afraid of Ben, Bell and Brown than I am anyone on the KC offense, I don't think Bill really worries about opponents offenses. He's got that shit down. It also doesn't hurt that he's already game planned for Pitt once this year, and Bill has some sort of insane record when he faces teams more than once, doesn't he?

I think McCourty is the primary guy on him--but suspicion is that Ebner is the alternative.

The role is nothing like anything they've done all year, right? Obviously just complete speculation.
In the past years they've dabbled with that dime role with Ebner or Tavon Wilson but this season they've been consistent, bringing in Harmon and putting McCourty in man-to-man or underneath. The top three safeties have all been healthy all year so hard to know what backup plans are - could certainly be Ebner since Richards hasn't been inactive much lately.

Yikes, allowing a third and 9 conversion on an off-tackle run is brutal. Well, more of a trap.
With all the dime and quarter packages these days, I'm surprised we don't see that more often

Sometimes I think Reid maps out the first 15 plays on offense, then says "well, you're on your own now"

Yes, what I'm saying is that spying Hill (if they did it) would be a totally different role than they have used, so what they do in their more typical sets is only somewhat predictive.

I'm torn. I agree with your points, but he is also familiar with KC, having beaten the in the playoffs last year. I'm probably 60-40 rooting for KC because of that.

Pitt's defense had gotten better and better since the Pats played them. They actually finished with a higher defensive DVOA ranking (11)than KC (14). I don't see either team causing Brady much harm up the middle like Houston did.
