Does this tie in to Brady's talk today: "I understand what’s going on. I know probably a lot more information than you guys have."

Must have been bad. Hightower called out the defensive game plan publicly after the first week and didn't miss a beat

Yea, there's gotta be more to this than a quick fuck you after a drill or something, because the punishment seems pretty extreme for "mouthing off." We'll probably never get the full story, and it wouldn't have made a difference in the outcome anyways, but if a guy coming off of an injury and trying to establish himself in the league is enough of a jerk off that he is getting benched for the way he talks to coaches during practice, we could be wading into the dreaded "coachability" territory which would be a death sentence in this organization.

Any incentives in Dobson's contract? Perhaps Josh is helping Bill help Kraft save a few bucks.

He doesn't have the authority to hand out suspensions himself, right?

I think DCMissle was on to something when he read into Bill's comments about LaFell "winning the position" being as much comments to Dobson. He doesn't usually make comments like that.

If he is the heir apparent as many think then I'm sure he has plenty of clout with Bill to get him suspended.

Still rather odd given again that Hightower mouthed off to the press which is a big no-no and that typically things that happen behind closed doors stay behind closed doors.  Make Dobson do extra reps or something as punishment but don't hurt the team for something that happens behind closed doors.

Then again with both Thompkins and Dobson not active this week I'm guessing this is more than just a benching for mouthing off.  Perhaps they aren't progressing as expected.

Insubordination is and should be unacceptable. Without knowing any of the details beyond he "mouthed off" it's hard to really comment further. But, despite the on field impact (presuming there was one), I think this is an appropriate course of action.

Dobson could watch KC dominate that game from the sidelines just as easily as on the field.

None of this excuses the performance by the coaching staff and players in that game. Dobson is the least of their problems.

Agreed but then why was hightower let off the hook so easily? Punishment needs to be consistent on some level.

I agreed but it is hard to compare without morr info. Mouthing off could be just that or maybe something way different and worse. This is the pats. I don't think they arbitrarily kept him out and let this be known.

I got a little concerned when Dobson seemed to think that despite missing all of the off season work with the surgery he still thought he was completely up to speed from an execution standpoint and ready to go for the regular season. It seems there may be a disconnect with his opinion of himself and reality.

That's a helluva lot different than "mouthing off." Or, at least, seems to be different...it's hard to say given we don't really know what Dobson said. But DT's thing is inappropriate, but a pissed off player having a moment of honesty in the wake of a tough defeat is different than yelling at your coach during practice or whatever happened.

Who knows what Dobson did, but DT's thing is a non-issue.

Hightower also made up for it the following Wednesday, per Reiss:

Technique and [playing] fundamentally sound, we weren’t doing that as well as we should have...Trying to overcompensate for maybe me messing up a play and then me not saying ‘That’s my fault’ and other guys are trying to do my job. Then things overcompensate, and that makes the cutback lanes for Moreno and Adrian Peterson and their style of running; that benefits them. It was definitely a learning curve we had last week and something that we’re working on getting corrected.

In his mailbag today Reiss seems to think there may be attitude issues, but the two healthy scratches are more performance-related.

"Andy, I'm aware of the report, citing an anonymous source, that Dobson might have "mouthed off" to Josh McDaniels. I don't know if that is true, but two people I trust who I believe are very close to that situation told me to be careful with that information. My understanding is that Dobson's lack of action is more football-based. Struggling to get open in practice. Don't do well in practice, hard to have confidence to put the player in a game. Take that for what it's worth, but that's the intel I have."

Two games for "mouthing off" did seem a little irregular to me.  The mouthing off is probably just compounding poor practice performance.

A heated exchange between an assistant coach and a player probably happens way more often than we hear.  What happens on the practice field usually stays on the practice field.  So, if Dobson's inactive status was due to a disciplinary issue, it's probably a lot more than just a mouthed obscenity.  Behavior, attitude, refusing to listen to a coach's instruction seem more probable.

Then again, given that Dobson was hurt all offseason and didn't get a whole of looks during preseason, it's more likely health/injury related.  It's also possible Dobson was punished in some way, and missed the KC game due to injury anyway.

Hightower's comments are hardly out of line and are not really relevant.

I'm assuming that the mouthing off included calling out McDaniel's for drafting Tebow and ESPN handed down the 2 game suspension.

I thought the reason he was deactivated was so he wouldn't be able to cash in after the 2017 season? No?

Tyms to replace Dobson?

I think it's more likely to be "dear media, once again, you are full of poppycock." Then we'll get the "Aaron has worked hard to come back from injury, it takes time to get acclimated, especially for a second year guy," etc. Dobson hasn't even been on the injury report, so I highly doubt we're going to see him get IR'd, and he certainly wouldn't say something like Tyms has taken over Dobson's role in a press conference.

And this will be followed by 5 reporters asking (in 5 different ways) "So Dobson really didn't mouth off the McDaniels? Are you sure" to which BB will frown and say "We're on to Cincinnati."

God, the butthurt in the Globe yesterday regarding the presser the other day was glorious. "He won't answer our questions! Waaah!"

This is interesting, especially because of how horribly disciplined the team was against cutbacks against the Chiefs.

Of course, "loud disagreement" doesn't rule out insubordination via a simple refusal to do what McD asked {e.g., missing a meeting, not reviewing film, half-assing or walking out of a drill, etc.}.

Then the reporter should report that.

So she made the leap from "ask the coaching staff" to "altercation"?

WTF
I assume her (non-Dobson) source said there was an altercation which she never bothered to confirm with anyone.  After today she asked Dobson who said "Ask them, no altercations."
