I'm not sure if it's just scheme (run on strong side of jumbo) or personnel (like Fleming). Either way, his role is pretty etched out right now, and he's good at it.

Scheme-wise they don't have the size outside to really run 3-4, but they also don't necessarily have speed to play 4-3.  I just don't get it.   Clearly, BB knows all this and has a theory, but not clear to me what it is yet.

Looks like they're using Fleming as the strong-side TE in their jumbo package, as they flipped him for the TD run.

Also, Minnesota isn't talented enough to play straight-up. Their best chance is keeping the Pats off-balance as to whether they'll throw or run. If NE can build a lead so Minny has to throw, it could get ugly.

The optimist in me would counter that the Vikings looked lost at times against play-action, especially their LBs underneath, which is why they are running play-action and working those routes.  As for the screen on 3rd and 11, it's basically a draw play to make sure they are in manageable FG range. Conservative but not too insane.

Again, that is the optimist in me.

Or as stated above they have no confidence in the OL to do any 5 or 7 step drops. Either way, the Playbook shrinks down when the line can't protect.

So many penalties. If we didn't know we had a Hall of Fame coach and were just evaluating this team based on its 5+ quarters this year, we'd say it had crappy coaching.
