Even if it were 2 weeks it would have to be considered. He is extremely injury prone and barely good enough to even get on the field anyways.Makes sense. They're already playing with a 52-man roster because of Edelman. Honestly, even if Dobson could have returned in 4 weeks I would have IRed him.
Probably just for this week. Coleman is probably going to be out again and they want secondary help. After the Denver game he'll probably be cut again.Dobson to IR makes sense, but another S???
Hellz no. Are you willing only out of depth chart desperation?Meanwhile, Terrell Owens yearns for a tryout. I'd give him one. Would you?
Can't tell if this is taking the Sosh "kick the tires on Randy Moss" performance art further or not.Meanwhile, Terrell Owens yearns for a tryout. I'd give him one. Would you?
Of course. We are desperate, TO is/was a HOF receiver, he claims he's no longer the wild man he used to be, he claims to be in shape and to understand what it means to sign up for the Patriots. What's to lose by giving him a tryout? If he still has some chops, he can at least distract the opposing secondary, freeing Gronk up more than he has been.Hellz no. Are you willing only out of depth chart desperation?
Well the Philly game is coming up soon.Because that team's defense must suck.
So that the fans and media don't have an excuse to criticize ownership for not taking on additional salary.I still have no idea why the NFL trade deadline isn't the last day of November.
Like a line from a Twisted Sister song says "what are you going to do with the rest of your life." Like, what is he doing? It seemed as though Reggie Wayne didn't want to do the work. If he didn't have the fire in the belly then, I doubt he's got it now.
Not in a million years.
It was for charity his rookie season. I'll have to do some digging but it is here somewhere. What?! Name please. Who took the other side of that action?
With two sub-categories:Good for the charity.
In good fun, and charitable sprit, we need a sons of Bethel Johnson sub-thread, pinned. Put all the WR binkies in there.
Im well aware of it, dont worry.
Someone here owes the Jimmy Fund $500 if Dobson gets to 1000 career yards as a Patriot so still looking good!
Actuallly still dont think Wilson gets cut given he plays so much on special teams and McCourty/Harmon/A Wilson/Chung/T Wilson/Ebner/Kanoris Davis is the is the safety depth chart.
David Terrell </Borges>How about a third category -- binkies that never made it to the team?
I had two, Golden Tate and Robert Woods. Hell, I'd have won that 1500 yard bet with Woods. Brady would have made him a star.
I've been beating this drum for a while and obviously BB/McD think he's not worth a roster spot.Greg Salas was mentioned in a place or two over the last week. He is one guy still out there who presumably knows some of the offensive concepts and is kinda-sorta interesting as a name. Presumably, they've concluded he is not a useful piece of the puzzle, but interesting we haven't heard about him even as a try-out guy.
Koren Robinson gets shorted every time this topic comes up. ;-)David Terrell </Borges>

I'm not sure Woods and Sanu are any better than Dobson - they've stayed healthier and had more opportunity, so they've produced more, but they've been pretty mediocre. I doubt either would have cracked the lineup over LaFell / Edelman last year and I'm not sure either would have been ahead of Amendola, either.I feel the same way about Mohamed Sanu -- he has been good, but I think on the Patriots he would have been a rich man's LaFell and would have been fascinated to see the various ways Belichick used him.
Salas could still be hurt. He did flash a bit on the Jets last year. As far as the Pats go, he was on the practice squad for two months three years ago, so it's not like he spent a ton of time in the system. He did work with McDaniels in St. Louis, I guess. Luring Austin Collie out of the CFL (Collie was on the Pats more recently and more effectively) probably makes as much sense.I've been beating this drum for a while and obviously BB/McD think he's not worth a roster spot.
As mentioned before, a late-camp knee injury was the only thing that prevented him from being on an NFL roster. Unless he had problems picking up the playbook and was a "repeat" offender in his brief time with the Patriots, it is a bit puzzling (they traded a pick for him no less).
BC isn't in the Gray Cup, so you'd think Collie would be available...I'm not sure Woods and Sanu are any better than Dobson - they've stayed healthier and had more opportunity, so they've produced more, but they've been pretty mediocre. Yeah, we usually delete charity bets because we hate kids and the disadvantaged.Weird, my Dobson bet seems to have vanished from the Board. Apparently someone doesn't like the Jimmy Fund.
Stitch01So we aren't allowed to judge someone based on what we see? Taylor Price never showed anything and ended up with 81 career yds receiving, 41 with the pats.
At what point are we allowed to question players the pats pick? I
I'm willing to put my $$ where my mouth is so if anyone wants to make a contribution to the Jimmy Fund I'm setting Dobson career yds receiving as a Patriot at 1000. That should be easy for a 2nd rd pick that is all but guaranteed to be on the roster for at least 3 yrs. I'm taking the under and I'll go up to $500 in any combination (5X 100, 1X 500, 10X 50 etc.) again I hope to lose the bet but I doubt I will.
j44thorBooked for $500.
I think I have the best of it based on recent 2nd round history, but its not a horrible line. I basically need Dobson to one David Givens like season. I think I'll get that in yearv2 or 3
If Dobson has a Given's like career that will be fantastic. I look at this as a bet I can't really lose since the $$ goes to a good cause and it will mean the Patriots actually drafted a productive WR which hasn't happened since Branch/Givens. Though I guess Dobson could simply have an Edelman like career and also get to 1K yards which is where Edelman should get this year.
So basically Dobson could leave this offseason, then come back and play with Jimmy G in 2025 for a couple 1,000 yard seasons and it would still count.Just to be clear it doesn't have to be on his rookie deal but it does have to be in a Patriot uni. If he gets traded/cut and goes somewhere else and hits 1K that doesn't count.
He really gets a bum rap around here. He was decent as a rookie and he's been hurt. I think there's something about his playing style (long striding guy who makes tough catches in traffic but isn't explosive or quick, his height and lack of quickness probably make it look like he isn't trying) that just irritates the hell out of folks.I didn't realize that Dobson even had ~700 yards. Feels like he's been healthy for the grand total of 1/2 season.
