Gotta get one of those Pedro hats. If only it was fitted instead of adjustable. Will wait it out. Great speech and a moment we won't forget. Man, wish I could have made it for this.

What NESN are you watching? I'm watching a Pedro vs. Mariners game from 1999 on NESN.

Huh?  They've been showing a Pedro-thon since noon.  His May 12, 1999 start against the Mariners is on now.

OK, blackout from my provider, as all Sox games are for me. Have to look into something better next year.

Geeze, that's a pretty odd black-out.
For some reason, my provider is treating this Pedro HOF day NESN telecast like a regular season Sox game, so I'm blacked out. Like I said, I need to talk to them. MLBN was really good though (except for Reynolds).

Don't think Manny is getting in. Or Arod.

ARod is like Bonds. He's still a Hall of Fame talent if you take away the PEDs and he should get in eventually.

I wasn't able to be home for this, so I'm looking forward to Pedro's speech ending up online somewhere so I can watch it in its entirety.

Try to find one that translates when he went over to Spanish. It was a pretty significant portion.

Hahahahahahah Pedro just spit in the general direction of Larry Rothschild who was jawing at him from the dugout.

Ah Miguel Cairo, still 4 years away from your career defining moment: trotting the bases, blissfully ignorant, after getting robbed by Manny

Dauber hurt :(

To this day, I still want to know what happened in that pile to piss the Rays off so much.  He came out of there holding his elbow and having Roberto Hernandez screaming at him.  Then they threw at him four times, hitting him twice, before he left the game.

Underrated moment of the brawl, Lou Merloni concussed as he tried to take Gerald Williams down (w/Varitek).  Looked like he caught Dauber's knee in the side of the head.  Listening to him on the radio, I wonder if he's still suffering effects sometimes.

Pedro's speech has already showed up on Youtube.  Wouldn't be surprised if MLBAM gets this and links like it taken down pretty quick.

I've met a lot of Sox in my day. Watching this game, brings back how unpleasant a human being Mike Lansing was.

I mean, this is a 1st and 3rd with 0 outs in the 3rd inning of an 0-0 ballgame, and Eiland threw at him on consecutive pitches.  What a scrub-ass team those pre-Maddon Rays were.  "Bush league" would be unkind to shrubbery.

Also, what Eiland has to complain about (and he's being vocal as shit with the ump) after then plunking Nomar with 1st open, is beyond me.

Then he doubled down hitting Nomar with the first pitch and had the temerity to act upset when he got tossed.  So intimidating with his 84 mph cheese.

I always wondered if Daubach was singled out as a "F You" for being a '95 strike scab.

Pretty sure he was one of the replacement players who was going to play if the strike wasn't resolved. I think Ron Mahay may have been another.

Thank you for posting the Pedro speech, definitely going to enjoy this.

It's great to have a whole bunch of Pedro highlights recorded again now.
I really wish I had saved more recordings from back then.
But then, it seemed like the highlights just kept on coming.

Every Pedro start was a must-watch.
The masterful way he threw every single pitch.
The hitters never looked like they had a chance.
Pedro always looked in complete control.

We were so lucky to experience that for so many years.
And even with how awe-inspiring it was...
It still got taken for granted quite often.
Even when thinking it was amazing, that still didn't do it justice.

We knew it was coming years ahead of time, but...
Hall of Famer, Pedro Martinez

I had no idea this was even a question.

Like Millar and every other replacement player, Daubach was never allowed to join the union after being a scab. Players don't forget.

To clarify, I meant singled out in the TB Brawl Beatdown. I meant I wondered if he was singled out and targeted during the brawl because of his scab status. (Just in case that wasn't clear.)

That is correct.  The issue at hand is that by the time of the brawl w/ Tampa, Daubach had been welcomed by the players in the Sox clubhouse as an integral part of their team, as Millar would be a few years later.  While the replacement players were never admitted into the MLBPA, the attitude towards the individuals had changed quite a bit over the years.  The actual animosity had been pretty much buried until some Rays players who were mostly scrubs and minor leaguers in 1995 decided to raise the issue again.

Two years ago, when the Red Sox and Rays were involved in a nasty brawl, more than one Tampa Bay player derisively referred to Boston first baseman Brian Daubach afterward as a "scab."

Finally saw his speech.  What a great and fun guy!  Like others I'm sure, I liked the shoutout to Dan Duquette.  I still can't believe the ownership was so petty that they gave a ring to everyone but had no love for Dan Duquette.  Not a fun or personable guy by any means but he did good things for the Red Sox.  Especially wrt my main man Pedro!

Wait, what? You thought they should give Duquette, who had been gone for almost two years at that point, a ring for 2004? Should Theo have gotten one for 2013?

In 2004, didn't everyone in Red Sox history get a ring, other than DD?
Yeah, no. They gave out about 500 but they were to current employees or players that were on the team at some point during the season. https://web.archive.org/web/20090705083433/http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2005/02/20/a_shining_example/

They were certainly generous with them, which is awesome, but I think a GM who got canned almost two years prior is a bit too far. Yes, he built most of the team. But come on.

Sour grapes... They should have been above it.
