Sent my pick to Proxy a few hours ago but I guess he's out

Anyhow I'm back now and I'll take Bryant McKinnie, LT

He's old and he has trouble staying in shape but he was a beast once upon a time and he had a great playoff run protecting Flacco's blindside. I figure if those 4 weeks were enough proof that Flacco is elite then they also prove McKinnie is worthy of protecting Peyton.

edit- totally forgot about the sex cruise until mascho mentioned it. Gives me a chance to quote one of the best wiki pages around (NSFW):

"McKinnie allegedly picked up a naked woman, placed her on the bar and performed cunnilingus on her in front of the crew and other guests. Later that evening McKinnie and three other men were spotted sitting in deck chairs receiving fellatio from four women, which was also observed by the crew in a public area of the boat.[3] When asked, McKinnie said, 'I'm upset my name is on the list, but I'm going to let my lawyer handle that.'"

Also he once got kicked off the Pro Bowl roster for being fat and lazy. But he made the Pro Bowl!

Yeah but pickings are slim at LT. I was also looking at Backus and then he fucking retired.

SSF, I don't know if you saw JerBear's post earlier but he said that he's busy and requested a two hour clock.  So you should go ahead and pick at 5:30 EST if he hasn't checked in already.

I'll be out in a bit MMS, so pick sent to Proxy and also sent a PM to SN. Thanks MMS.

Harbaugh should have own coach of the year just getting McKinnie's fat ass in gear and actually contribute during the SB run.

Yet another reason why I think it'd be fun to be able to draft coaches

Need another big body to clog up the middle. This guy is a beast, stays healthy, and will pair great with Joseph in the middle of my 4-3.

Paul Soliai, DT

Do I need to PM SSF or is proxy covering him?

EDIT: PM'd SSF as he's in the thread.

Seoul Sox Fan picks TE Coby Fleener, who has a semi-interesting blog, where he just talks about random shit having to do with being an NFL player.

We're halfway through the draft and I don't have any interior linebackers yet. I was hoping to rectify that with Arthur Brown, but KFP / SMU took him. That means two things: 1) he's going to suck in the NFL after all, and 2) there aren't any real high-upside ILBs left. So I'm going to switch gears here. If my ILBs are going to be crap, they're going to play behind a dominant defensive line that's going to let them be crap.

With the 444th selection, the Cleveland Ravens select:

NT Jesse Williams, Alabama Crimson Tide

This draft is full of defensive tackle prospects, but Williams is possibly the best two-gapper in the class. He's a 320-pound Australian human who can somehow bench 600 pounds and run a 4.9 40. Technically he'll be a backup on my squad, but since Seymour's 33 and Ngata 29, he'll get plenty of burn subbing for those guys, and against run-heavy teams I might start him. The "Monstar" has experience both at end and tackle in the 3-4, so he'll be a versatile cog to plug into my defense. At least until he and Kaepernick both die (dye?) of ink overdoses trying to out-tattoo each other:

Bureaucratic note: put him at my second DT (backup front 7) spot.

EDIT: ESC PM'd

That's a nice pick. I think Williams is better than any of the 2013 draftee DTs already taken in this here exercise.

With the 445th pick in the draft The Patriots are going to finally grab some offensive line help and select

Bobby Massie RT

Highly regarded coming out of college he did not come out of the gate well for the Cards last year in his first season. The second half however saw him make huge strides in every aspect of his game. He's agile for a guy his size, 6'6" 316, and shows great athleticism and strength.

From CBS

Prototypical size for remaining at right tackle in the NFL. Long arms and big hands. Very good initial quickness off the snap; consistently among the first linemen off the ball regardless of the competition. Very good upper body strength and good hand placement. Latches on to the defender and can control his opponent as long as he keeps his feet moving. Is surprisingly effective against speed rushers due to his length, balance and fluidity. Light on his feet for such a large man. Can knock defenders off the ball as a run-blocker. Combines quickness with power to create a surge. Shows the ability to make effective combination blocks, getting a strong initial pop on the front line defender before releasing and showing good speed and agility getting to the second level efficiently.

I think he fits well as the opposite bookend to Armstead.

Really like Nomario's pick of Jesse Williams . Was also looking at him for my backup NT, but I was hoping he'd last a few more rounds.

Mike Adams, LT (Pittsburgh)

Limited to 10 games due to an ankle  injury, Adams still captured the Steelers "Joe Greene Great Performance Award" from the Pittsburgh Football Writer's Association  and their Rookie of the Year honor. Adams slipped in the draft due to a positive marijuana test but convinced the Pittsburgh brass to take a chance on him anyway. He may or may not end up at LT this season for the Steelers but he played the spot in college and was among the top ranked players at the LT position in last year's draft. And there really aren't any better options remaining at this point.

BSJ has mail. Now, we wait.

We're at the halfway point; time to see how the teams are shaping up:
Name Team QB RB TE WR WR LT LG C RG RT DE DE DT DT ILB OLB OLB CB CB SS Myt1 Cowboys Matt Forte Jimmy Graham Calvin Johnson Donald Penn Jahri Evans Bryan Bulaga Jared Allen Ezekiel Ansah Sylvester Williams Brodrick Bunkley Tamba Hali Daryl Smith Johnathan Joseph Vontae Davis mascho Redskins Joe Flacco Vernon Davis Alshon Jeffrey DeAndre Hopkins Trent Williams Barrett Jones Gosder Cherilus Greg Hardy Nick Fairly Sheldon Richardson Alec Ogletree Kareem Jackson Greg Toler Major Wright ilol@u Giants Matt Schaub Adrian Peterson Brandon Marshall Stephen Hill Logan Mankins Maurkice Pouncey Eric Winston Julius Peppers Dwight Freeney Rey Maluaga Rob Ninkovich Philip Wheeler Antonio Cromartie Chris Houston Captain Laddie Eagles Andy Dalton Arian Foster Martellus Bennett Danario Alexander Davone Bess Jason Peters T.J. Lang Brian de la Puente Derrick Morgan Brian Robison Kevin Williams Mike Martin Jarvis Jones Chris Harris
Best offense: boy, this is tough. The Cowboys have the best WR and the best TE, but no QB. The Eagles have a good O-line, a good RB, and a decent QB, but his WR are pedestrian. The Redskins have the best QB of the bunch and a top TE, but his receivers are totally unproven. The Giants have the best RB, a plausible QB, and a #1 receiver, but no LT.

Best defense: the Cowboys have two good corners, two proven pass-rushers, and some nice youth on the D-line. I think all the defenses look solid so far.

Style of play: With no dominant passing attack and some good cornerbacks, the running games and defenses will define this division. Except no one has any safeties yet, so a couple times a game someone will break a tackle and go 60 yards or something.

Best offense: Da Bears, with the division's best QB in Romo, a pair of talented receivers in Green and Jackson, and a good TE tandem in Lewis and Olsen. Honorable mention to the Packers, who have the best RB in Charles, the second-best QB of the group in Cutler, and the division's best O-line.

Best defense: The Vikings are loaded with young talent to surround star pass-rusher Cameron Wake, while the Lions have an amazing CB tandem in Hall and Tillman to go with a strong front seven.

Style of play: All over the place. The Bears can throw but not stop it (no corners); the Lions and Packers are pretty balanced; the Vikings are D-only.

Best offense: the Falcons have the division's best QB (Luck), it's only RB (Ballard), and some nice receiving weapons in Thomas, Gordon, and Gresham. The Saints deserve props for building the kind of offense that Smith can be successful in, with the division's best TE (Witten) and the division's best offensive line.

Best defense: the Bucs' defense is straight nasty, with excellent pass-rushers, safeties, corners, and DEs.

Style of play: the young corners stand out; everyone has two and the oldest is Josh Wilson at 28. How will they do against the good WRs in the division? Teams may find it easier to attack with their TEs.

Best offense: the Cardinals have the best QB (Brees) and a great running combo of Rice behind Leach, but they have the weakest WR and OL. The Seahawks have a top RB in Morris, the game's best TE in Gronk, and a great offensive line, but no QB yet. The Rams might have the best combo, with a top young QB in Newton, a great WR in Fitzgerald, some intriguing rookie pass-catchers in Ertz and Patterson, and a solid o-line, or it could be the 49ers with Eli throwing to Wallace and Amendola. I just named all the teams, didn't I?

Best defense: the 49ers have a great-looking front seven, between DL Wilkerson, Houston, and Taylor and OLBs Orakpo and Jordan, and Grimes and Byrd is a good beginning to a secondary.

Style of play: No pattern. Some RBs, some TEs, some receivers, some youth, some age, some secondaries, some pass rushers. There are football players who play football on all the teams.

Best offense: the Bills have Roethlisberger, the only proven QB in the division, but they also have a great receiver combo in Jones and Brown and a solid O-line.

Best defense: the pieces may not all quite fit together, but the collection of young defensive talent on the Patriots - Watt, Kuechly, Smith, Brockers, Rodgers-Cromartie, and rookies Werner and Jones, is serious.

Style of play: Hybrid defenses? Or incoherent? The Patriots' D has been the subject of debate on this thread, but look at the other teams: the Jets have a pair of 4-3 DEs matched up with 3-4 LBs, and the Dolphins are also mixing-and-matching in their front 7. Also, a ton of rookies in key roles in this division: Armstead, Austin, Jones, and Werner on the Pats, Elam on the Bills, Geno on the Jets, and K. Allen, Warford, Lotulelei, and Milliner on the Fish.

The best receiving group is the Ravens', and Kaepernick is no slouch either. Nor is Russell Wilson with the Steelers, and he's got a great tandem of RBs in Spiller and Tate.

Best defense: the Browns missed out on the QB lottery but the D is stacked.

Best offense: the Jaguars have Peyton, the division's only RB in Ridley, and good WR. The Titans have dynamic young talent in RGIII and Harvin and probably the division's best OL.

Best defense: the Jaguars have great cover guys but not much of a pass rush. The Colts have a stacked D-line but are putting a lot of faith in Claiborne.

Style of play: Four franchise quarterbacks ... and we have three rookie tackles in Fragel, Johnson, and Joeckel, and the ancient McKinnie protecting Manning's blindside. Can the rookies develop quickly? Can McKinnie hang on? Or is the division going to be decided by the last quarterback standing?

Certain questions echo through history. Chicken or Egg? To be or not to be? What would Al Davis do?

It is the latter that concerns me now. I never met Al, but if he was up against a deadline for the picks necessary to separate the Raiders even further from the pack of shitty, no talent-having teams in the AFC West, I have to imagine that he would pour himself a big glass of napa valley pinot, make himself a grilled cheese, and think about suing his business partners. I have no evidence to support this, but doesn't Al strike you as the kind of guy who enjoyed a good grilled cheese?

Paul Soliai is who we're taking. I edited my post after initially picking someone else. Isn't that the kind of thing Al would do? Hopefully no one saw it. If you did? I'll fucking sue you and move my team to Stockton. Fuck you.

Next pick upcoming.

Steelers' will have a tough time generating pass rush from the front-four, but relatively speaking OL on all teams aren't their areas of strength.

I'll put up my O against any D here, but may lose more than a few games in the 34-42 fashion with average to below average CBs (none are picked) going against the likes of Cruz/Wright, Crabtree/Nicks, and Bowe/Jennings.

Thankfully the outstanding LB crew of Burfict, Ellerbe, and Houston can all generate rush, and if Mark Barron can improve on play recognition (a big if, but he's still young) it'll help Reshad Jones tremendously.
 • Vs. Bengals: Brady will pick us apart all day with Cruz, and Barron may be in for a long day. However, Spiller & Hilton may have big days of their own against Woodley/Brooks/no name CBs.
 • Vs. Ravens: Nicks scare me much more than Crabtree. Ngata, Coples, Seymour + Irvin may be the toughest to handle of all other DL. Best counter would be to setup play action against over-pursuing/impatient Irvin and young Gilmore.
 • Vs. Browns: Again, Bowe and Jennings may each have 100 yard gains, and I always liked Murray. I have to hope for a low scoring game with yet-to-be-named QB, and try to pick on the tweener Rhodes.
Summary:
 • Strength: multi-dimensional offense with Russell, Spiller, and Hilton. Young and athletic LB corp.
 • Weakness: no front-four pressure, combined with average/replacement-level corners is bad news. OL corner pieces have high-upside, but are young and got lots to prove.
P.S. I still defend Tyron Smith as a very high upside LT - his second half was miles ahead of his first, and still very young and coachable.

We've been going young. But we need a veteran anchor on the o line.

Jonathan Goodwin.

He is a top 10 center that slipped here prob due to age. We will take him. He should be able to give us 2-3 years of high level play.

Best offense: All four teams have good receivers and good offensive lines, but only the Raiders have an elite QB (Rodgers)

Best defense: The Chiefs and Chargers have almost the same formula - a dominant pass-rusher up front (JPP / Atkins), a tackle machine in the linebacking crew (Dunbar / Spikes), and a great CB pair (Haden & Talib / Revis & Brown)

Style of play: This division features four solid offensive lines; everyone has a good LT and two other decent linemen. WR talent is also a strong point. Can the pass rushes break through?

His time's up, right? 6 hours yesterday = 3 today, plus 3 hours this morning, and wrap-around picks only get one clock. But you're next so you if you want to wait, we wait. :)

A certain hot-dog eating ex-Bengal QB just came off the board in the RSPWP league. Seventh round, pick #198.
