i am trying to like this but Espinoza seems like a lot given the teams inability to develop pitchers. Perhaps Banister sees something he can tinker with in order to bring the walk rate down, but that still doesn't address the innings pitched.
This is where I'm at.You might as well be fair and mention the crazy high strikeout rate too. Espinoza's awesome to dream on but he's so far away that by the time he even contributes, Bogaerts could be a free agent.
Yeah, I'm with this sentiment. It's not like Espinosa was ripping through the minors this year; he's really a ways off.If we have to give up a top prospect, giving up the one in the lowest level of the minors is my preference. It's a long way to the show, not so much for Devers, Moncada, Benintendi.
He's not at a career high in innings.Career high in innings, spotty track record before this year. What could go wrong?
Glad the Sox are serious about improving the staff, but if Espinoza is in this, I can't say I like it.
Just FTR, Pomeranz had been back and forth to the minors quite a bit before the trade to Oakland, so he actually pitched 120 innings in 2011, 147 in 2012, then 86 in a half season before being promoted to the major league bullpen in 2013.
Also hard when his last two teams played their home games at Petco and O.Co.Really hard to make heads or tails of Pomeranz' longer track record because Rockies.
Can't contract that team fast enough as far as I'm concerned.
Then I'm cool with this.Dennis Lin @sdutdennislin 2m2 minutes ago
Heard the Drew Pomeranz deal may be for Anderson Espinoza straight up. Espinoza, 18, is Baseball America's 15th-best prospect.
A lesser deal for Hellickson could still happen if this is truly a 1-for-1 deal. Depends a lot on how much faith they have in E-Rod to get right and Pomeranz to finish the season with something in the tank.Would've preferred a lesser deal for Hellickson or similar. Giving up Espinoza hurts. A lot.
That is exactly who I just looked up to console myself on losing Espinoza.BLASPHEME!
He'll be at least as good as Casey Kelly!
this helps too.You might as well be fair and mention the crazy high strikeout rate too. Espinoza's awesome to dream on but he's so far away that by the time he even contributes, Bogaerts could be a free agent.
Petco moved the fences in and plays much more reasonably now: actually tied with Fenway for runs park factor in 2016.Also hard when his last two teams played their home games at Petco and O.Co.
Sounds exactly like the kind of guy you want to trade one of the three best pitching prospects in the game for!So to manage the innings load Pomeranz becomes the 5th starter and gets skipped multiple times in the 2nd half?
Sure could, but what I was saying is I'd rather have traded for Hellickson with lesser prospects + kept Espinoza instead of dealing him for Pomeranz.A lesser deal for Hellickson could still happen if this is truly a 1-for-1 deal. Depends a lot on how much faith they have in E-Rod to get right and Pomeranz to finish the season with something in the tank.
How in the world can you consider the Kimbrel deal getting "pantsed"?How do you get pantsed by AJ Preller twice in one year.
Good point.Petco moved the fences in and plays much more reasonably now: actually tied with Fenway for runs park factor in 2016.
Fair enough, as I only looked at his MLB Bref page. Even with this correction he's still at his highest point since 2011, including MiLB stats mixed in, which maybe isn't anything to be concerned about, but I just don't see a half-season of Pomeranz magic worth Espinoza. Then again, prospect-lust rose colored glasses may be firmly in place with this assessment. He's not at a career high in innings.
Maybe that's why Edro gets the first start tomorrow, so they have the most possible time to gauge his progress before the deadline.A lesser deal for Hellickson could still happen if this is truly a 1-for-1 deal. Depends a lot on how much faith they have in E-Rod to get right and Pomeranz to finish the season with something in the tank.
This is absolutely trueMaybe that's why Edro gets the first start tomorrow, so they have the most possible time to gauge his progress before the deadline.
I noticed E-Rod is starting tomorrow night right after the break, followed by Wright, Price, then Porcello. According to ESPN, Rodriguez would then start the next game, followed by Wright, Price, Buchholz, and then Porcello. I wonder if this is more of a "keep E-Rod on schedule" thing, or a "let's see if he's ready, and where we stand" thing. I'd say as of right now Buchholz is the odd man out, and possibly heading to the pen to alleviate the loss of Taz (although not necessarily taking his high leverage innings, of course).A lesser deal for Hellickson could still happen if this is truly a 1-for-1 deal. Depends a lot on how much faith they have in E-Rod to get right and Pomeranz to finish the season with something in the tank.
I'm in line with this. Espinoza is worth more than Pomeranz. Any more added to this deal going east to west would make this a terrible deal. As it stands, it is still bad. Pomeranz has a lot of pressure on him now to pitch very well as a result. Can he?If you're giving up a prospect of Anderson Espinoza's caliber you're doing it for someone better than Drew Pomeranz. Not happy about this at all.
At SS, or on the hill.....?BLASPHEME!
He'll be at least as good as Casey Kelly!
