The first few quotes could have gone either way, then they just used it as an excuse to hammer Favre. It was excellent.

Oh and that compilation of Favre INTs over the song, 'Simply the best' was outstanding. The Minnesota radio guy killing Favre's INT vs the Saints will never ever get old. Starts at 50 mins of Hour 3 on 12/15

Let me ask: as a DC resident, it it worth listening to this show -- whether archive or podcast? Like, the way you guys talk about T&R, it really is great radio these days. I remember when they were on BCN and I liked them enough back then. Have they really improved THAT much?

I think you'll love it, definitely worth trying a few of the podcasts. I never listened to them before the Sports Hub, so I'm not the one to say if they are better or not, all I know is it's the most entertaining show I've ever listened to. They have all their shows on their website.

On another note, I can't believe they got Basil Marceaux to call in yesterday. Literally a drive off the road segment.

Yeah Laddie, I think you'll definitely love it especially if you liked them on BCN. They aren't as wacky/raunchy/drunk as they were then, and it will take time to adapt to having Wallach there instead of Crash, but as far as sports talk goes they've come a very long way. Their interviews are the best in the business, and they really don't play up to the typical contrived storylines like other shows. They won't give you the most in-depth analysis around, but they're able to switch from interviewing Bert Breer of the NFL network, to making fun of Belichick for being on a cooking show when he coached in Cleveland, to talking about whether Claude Julien's job is in jeopardy, and that was just on my car ride in this morning.

I'm surprised that Fred went on a rant this morning about Wallach after someone jokingly called him out for cutting Wallach off yesterday. Apparently they feel the exact same frustrations with Wallach that everyone has in this thread and best he could say is "He's getting better". He did say that they like having him on the show but it was obvious they're not thrilled with him on a daily basis.

Toucher getting exposed a bit this morning, arguing that Jack Morris is a Hall of Famer while Bert Blyleven isn't.

I think that's the main reason Wallach is in the studio. Neither T nor R are really baseball guys, and Wallach (while grating at times) adds some value there.

Toucher is a Detroit guy, he's going to want Morris in the HoF, numbers be damned. It's a lot like when Jim Rice made his push for the HoF. His numbers say that he probably doesn't belong, but to a Boston guy (especially if you grew up when he dominated) it'd be hard to tell him otherwise.

I'm a Detroit guy and there's no fucking way Morris should be in the Hall of Fame. Trammell? Certainly. Whitaker? In my opinion absolutely. Morris? Not a chance. I still love listening to those guys talk sports, however, because when I'm on my way to work at 6:20 in the morning and it's 19 degrees out, I want to laugh, not be exposed to deep analysis or some complety stultifying, uninformative, cliche-ridden Tom Brady interview.

Toucher getting exposed a bit this morning
I wouldn't say they're getting exposed. One of their intros coming back from breaks says something along the lines of "Talking sports, Toucher and RIch style, which means there will be mistakes". They know they're not experts and don't really pretend to be (most of the time).

Today with DA was pretty good. I turned it on around 8:15 and DA was on with Dave Andelman and they were laughing about the Phantom Gourmet bit and T&R just destroying DA.

Classic rants this morning about John Dennis. Comparing to the old man that doesn't understand that the more you react the more the "kids" are going to try to get a rise out of you.

Fred's been retweeting Dennis twitter rants against people who call him out, basically every tweet is Dennis saying "look at UR 1040 and UR blocked". Yeah John you make well into the 6 figures, we get it.

Edit-anyone have a guess at how much he makes, I'd say probably somewhere around 4-500K?

They forced me to play radio ping pong this morning in the 9 oclock hour with all this silly contrived "is this the biggest rivalry" talk with 400 rules and qualifiers to somehow make it so no other rivalry in sports could possibly qualify. It's the type of thing they so rarely do that I found it somehow extra annoying. Lucky for them D+C were talking about the crazy indian blessing so I couldn't stick with them either.

I was out of the car by then, but loved Fred's rant about driving Adolpho home and then his wife shoveling when he asked her not to.

I think the Jets Bullies thing is pretty funny, but there is no way anyone will be able to come up with anything that is going to get on TV. I'm all for sending 7 goons to taunt the Jets all game, but the caveat that you have to do somethign to get on TV makes no sense to me.

Yeah, I agree. I don't see why they have to get on TV (maybe there will be some type of 98.5 signage or t-shirts they'll have to wear?). That limits what they can try to get away with; if you want to find a way to get on the Jets' nerves, you have to allow the fans to do anything they can come up with that would be short of getting kicked out of the game.

Sure enough, they were using this as a bit of a marketing ploy. I love T+R, and honestly don't really blame them for making the winners wear T+R t-shirts to the game, but the fact that they're making people do that lessened the potential quality of the gag.

They're using this as a way to promote themselves which means in order to be on TV they had to limit how offensive people could be. Kind of a shame, because some of the people who lost would have been great at getting the crowd riled up toward the Jets sidelines, but that idea played second fiddle to the easy marketing.

Those firefighters, for example, did not have all that great of an idea. Sure, they're gonna be ripping on Fireman Ed, but there was nothing about their act that would really taunt the Jets. You think the Jets' players really give a crap about Fireman Ed? I think T+R just realized anyone dressed as firefighters are pretty likely to get TV time because of the clear (and cute) stab toward Fireman Ed, but the act itself is actually pretty weak when it comes to flinging shit at Ryan and the Jets.

I was just coming here to ask how this turned out.

I only heard the first two groups before I got out of my car and both of those groups seemed like sure things, did they really give the tickets to 7 guys dressed a firemen?

If so that really fucking sucks and I lost a lot of respect for the show. I get that they want to promote it, but this kind of goes against everything that they have stood for over the last couple of years.

Only three went to the firefighters, but the only thing they really had that was unique was a Pat Patriot on their helmets. It was weak.

I'm just bummed that the whole thing turned into a 98.5 marketing gig. I get that it makes sense because they are, after all, a business that's part of a tough market with some strong competition, but this should have been about the game itself.

No, they got bumped. The other winners were (I believe) these guys who dressed as toes (three of them), with one chick dressed as Jenn Sterger (she was originally a toe as well, but they told her to dress as Sterger with the 98.5 t-shirt on). You can't even tell what the toes are; they look like giant russet potatoes.

I was pulling for the tongue and feet guys too - that was brilliant. I saw pictures of the feet those guys made, and while they were terrible, T+R should have given them the tickets with the understanding that they make the feet more recognizable.

Holy shit Fred has lost his mind talking about EEI vs TSH. He just talked for 10 minutes about their hunting lodge and Dale Arnold and how Zolak is like Gargamel if he infultrated the Smurfs as a Smurf

When he first brought up the boston sports media lodge (around 7am) he was on a hilarious rant. He was so fired up...kept yelling about Dale Arnold's pledge pin. Great, great radio today.

Was it funny like it was around 7:30 or just ridiculous?
I thought it was hysterical, but I didn't hear the 7:30 stuff. And I like the abserdity of a mid-30's man creating a hunting lodge alegory based on Dale Arnold being mean to Mike Felger in order to be accepted. They forced Arnold to eat 80 gold fish.

The bolded was what I enjoyed most. Especially saying that after he ate each goldfish, they'd still find an excuse not to let him in.

Oh that was awesome...

I love Fred's take on these things. The fact that he hasn't been "in it" allows him to take a step back and realize how asinine all of this "media on media crime" that EEI has built its brand around is.

What's the deal with Dale and Wallach though? Is Arnold a real prick off the mic?
Even when they were both on EEI I never got the sense Dale liked Wallach. Wallach filled in as cohost a few times and Dale was positively icy towards him.

Yeah, I have no idea if one thing had to do with another. It probably didn't, but the other Big Show producer got caught texting weird racist stuff to the DA show so if it was Bret who made that page I can imagine WEEI wasn't having it.

Whoever it is, they're still updating it so I'd imagine it's no one who got fired. I mean, would they still have that much loyalty to WEEI? Anyhow, I'm guessing it's John Dennis.
