So I just listened to the replay of the DA vs James Stewart battle and the best part was the reaction to how great Stewart's rap was even though DA clearly kicked his ass. I love the James Stewart as a psychopath storyline and Fred and Rich both trying to say how awesome he is while throwing the other under the bus. DA did a damn good job, but I'd actually like to see James move on so that Fred would get a chance to blast him in the second round.

Did anybody hear who won the DA/Jimmy Stewart battle?
DA wiped the floor with Stewart and it wasn't even close. The best thing to come out of that battle was Fred cowtowing to Stewart as if he was actually afraid that he was a serial killer.

One thing that is getting kind of annoying is the way they are going after Felger for Mike from Attleboro writing his rap. I assumed they were all getting help, and that Rich was producing the bits for them by placing the "lyrics" over the music from the song selected. If Felger was going against the spirit of the competition then I get it, but I have a hard time believing that Mazz wrote the Adolpho slam to Lose Yourself by himself.

They aren't going after Felger, they're just busting his chops. Felger is jokingly trying to get himself DQ'ed because he doesn't want to have to do another rap, I don't think Bertrand was being serious in outing Felger (although I didn't hear the actual quote) and no one is really taking this seriously (from a competition standpoint). Literally everything about it is done tongue in cheek.

Well, except for Gresh's "suck it, Felger". I think that was genuine.

That makes sense. They do a great job of busting chops on Felger because I honestly couldn't tell if they were giving him a hard time or were actually annoyed.

I'm with you on Gresh, I could tell he used that rap as a way to slam someone that he truly doesn't like. Most of the raps were funny or toungue in cheek, his were insults that seemed to have been building up.

I loved when Rich cut up Jimmy Stewart's rap over the Halloween theme song targeted at Fred.

There are few things as amusing as the simmering Gresh/Felger feud. It's clear that Felger has no respect for Gresh whatsoever and every "he takes the TOP OFF THE DEFENSE!!" reference is a dig on Gresh. Felger has (not in my memory) ever done a crossover with the mid day show and he's never actually used Gresh's name that I can recall. I think he truly hates him - and the feeling is mutual.

I have to think that TSH is going to keep experimenting with the flashboy role over time - they obviously hijacked it as a combination of WBZ news and WEEI sportsflashes, but in this internet/technology age, people don't need news like that anymore. I think they're going to find third wheel types who actually want to grow professionally in the future and not just read a prompter. Like an Albert Breer type a few years ago would have been perfect, a guy who could do reporting/blogging/tweeting 4-6 hours a day and then adding some value in studio a couple hours a day. WEEI won't get there, but the HUB will (I think).

Bertrand is really the perfect third wheel on Felger and Mazz. He's a young guy who's only improved with time and clearly wants to keep getting better. Bertrand's grown to the point that I actually think he's better with Felger than Mazz is (different conversation for a different thread though).

Overall, I enjoy the interplay between hosts on TSH. There's some bickering, but it all seems to be in good fun. Opposed to EEI where the crossovers would sometimes be downright uncomfortable (Callahan vs. Dale about "Queer Eye" anybody?)

It's been said before, but it's worth repeating...this "98 mile" is a good symbol as to why "The Sports Hub's" audience has continued to grow. The nuts and bolts of the sports talk isn't always spectacular, but it's sports talk radio so it isn't really supposed to be. I go to places like here for incredibly insightful sports commentary. I listen to talk radio to be entertained and since the day it hit the airwaves 98.5 has been infinitely more entertaining than EEI.

Not even a comment on this morning's 98 mile? DA is much better at this than I expected and seems to be better at this than anyone else. Fred had a couple of hilarious lines of his own, but it's hard to beat DA's entry, it was another great effort, although the finals may be a dud as i'm not sure Mazz vs DA has all that much to it.

Brilliant idea by Rich to allow Mazz and DA to make fun of anybody working in Boston media tomorrow and not just each other. The "98 mile" idea kind of lost steam this last round but it should be pick up again tomorrow.

DA's crew absolutely killed it.
Mazz seemed to kind of mail it in...he did the whole thing in that "Boston accent" of his.

DA's was awesome. I cracked up when GRESH made his cameo and talked about "stomping out Mut."

Pretty sure Mazz was trying to imitate Tone Loc, not the stupid Boston accent.

Who did Mazz recruit? I know DA had Gresh and Rich. I had to be to work early and missed them, but looking forward to hearing them later.

He did all the rapping himself. Rich said he had some of the producers doing some voices in the background, but it wasn't obvious. DA's was amazing. Mazz's was.. alright, I guess. Still, this was a great idea, and it played out pretty damn well. There were only a handful of "battles" that didn't have at least one rap work for me (J-Stew vs. DA, Felger vs. Maz), and it went about as far as it could without going too far. Rich, I think, wisely realized that in-station battles were already on life support in round 2 and made the decision to switch attention to WEEI, and it ended on a high note.

I think the best line was Rich's one about kicking it like Alcantara.

I also wish EEI had enough of a sense of humor to come up with a good spirited retort.

I wasn't a big fan when I heard Johnson and Flynn filling in for (I think it was)Gresh and Zo. But I think it was because those two morons kept calling the show completely wasted from the golf tournament and demanded to be put on the air and it brought the show down.

Anyhow, Johnson and Flynn are the perfect kind of B-team to have on the air when hosts are on vacation IMO. Knowledgable about sports, they have a good flow together, and they don't try to change and be something they aren't because they are filling in for T&R instead of Felger and Mazz.

I'm sure Wallach is crapping his pants about Johnson because he seems much better on the radio and would make a great replacement for him. He's already tried to cut Johnson down a few times and as always Wallach comes off like the jerk.

I'm not sure if its Johnson or Flynn, but one of them has been an absolute train wreck on the subject of Bedard vs. Lackey. Wallach was arguing that Bedard has been pitching much better than John Lackey, and has been met with an absolute wall of "Well, they don't win when Bedard pitches! They win when Lackey pitches! And he's done it in the postseason!". I'm also hoping that when they say that "All the MVP candidates except Verlander will be in Fenway this week", they're including the Blue Jays and Jose Bautista.

Holy shit, the Gronkowski Brother stuff was hilarious this morning.

Between the 18 Wheelers, pounding rain and "Fitness Stuff for Kids" I thought I was going to go off the road.
Agreed that was great. Just Fred going off on a tangent and nailing it. I hope they can get Gronk to buy into their bits for his weekly appearance, should make for entertaining radio on Fridays for the football season.

I wonder if I'm the only person who feels this way, but the only way T&R becomes turn-off radio is whenever Adolpho is given a microphone. There's funny-stupid, and stupid-stupid, and he's the latter. Just completely uninteresting (and a little pathetic).

For me it depends on what he is doing or rather what they are having him do. I have little interest in "Ask A Pink Hat" or the Drunken Recaps which are rarely funny to me. On occasion the Recaps can strike absolute gold, but they more often suck, but that is the only thing they do which annoys me.

If they are having him do things, like dress up like the Green Guys, or wear the lock out shirt, etc... I think he can be extremely useful and very funny.

I meant more along the lines of this morning, which was "look, we gave Adolpho a mic in-studio, listen to him mangle English!". It was stupid and unfunny enough that I switched to my iPod, which I hadn't done for a while (which prompted me to think about why, and that it's almost always Stupid Adolpho Tricks that does it).

I guess i'm a simple guy because Adolpho's stuff almost always slays me. I laugh at the pink hat stuff and seldom get tired of listening to him completely mangle whatever they ask him to do. They almost overdid it with him early on, but it seems like they consciously pulled the reins back on that and I can't say I've ever found his participation to be negative. Different strokes, as they say.

I remember about a 3-4 month span during the later WBCN days, after T&R moved to mornings, but before TSH had been announced (or presumably even broached to them privately), where it was pretty apparent Fred and Rich thought the show was getting shitcanned along with the rest of the dying station. One of the funnier things to come out of that era was that they pretty much gave up on Adolfo and accepted his uselessness, building him a nook in the corner of the studio with towels and blankets where he could curl up and do nothing. The "go to your nook" put-down was perfect for him. (I wish they would build a Wallach nook now, as a matter of fact.) Of course he survived and fills an expanded role, to turn a phrase, on the show today.
